The Blair Witch Project has been hyped as one of the scariest movies ever. There is some nice characterisation of a bunch of thoroughly unpleasent young people, lots of shaky camera work and a few spooky sounds. However, apart from maybe the last minute it is not scary and never will be, DVD does not make the slightest difference. The Blair Witch Project - without doubt, the second most hyped movie of the last year (who could compete with Phantom Menace?) and, as with Phantom Menace, entirely undeservedly so. It was made on a shoe-string budget. So? It's entirely unscripted. So? It's scary! No. It isn't. This is quite frankly the worst film I've seen in a long time. It's an unscripted, meandering mess of a film, with no imagination, and little script beyond "Oh ...demise of whom is the only plus point the film has to offer. The closing shot isn't ambiguous - well, that is, if you kept up with the hype and watched the behind the scenes documentary shown on Sky... The DVD is the most complete way of enjoying the film, and the commentary is quite entertaining, but for the film itself? Forget it. ...
