Make no mistake about it, the Coen brothers are in a league of their own when it comes to making movies. ...am a huge fan of the Coen Brothers (so much so that I think they deserve capital letters!). With typical quirky self-assurance, the Coens open their "Chandler" movie with a tumbling tumbleweed and a gravelly cowboy voice over. Why? Probably because they thought it would be funny, and the next 120 minutes of their meandering masterpiece is peppered with such idiosyncratic moments. This film is about a name mix-up whereby an innocent smack-smoking ball-bowling good-fer-nuthin' layabout called The Dude gets confused with a multi-millionare who owes some money. ...movie. It is undoubtedly the best thing John Goodman has ever been involved in (his line “I can get you a toe. I could get you a toe by 3 o’clock this afternoon” is one of the best I’ve heard) and Jeff Bridges is wonderful as El Duderino. Since viewing this film, a friend of mine immediately took to drinking white Russians (Bridges favoured drink in the film) and wearing baggy shorts in an effort to emulate Bridges character. The Big Lebowski is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen, with some absoulutly hilarious characters and moments.
