Advantages: good acting, great plot, lots of gore, great costuming, etc... Disadvantages: none
...the prequel to the other Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie starring Jessica Biel. This one is set in the sixties in the height of the Vietnam war where two young soldiers take a last trip with their girlfriends before being shipped out to the war that is going on overseas. Things go awry though, when they are almost robbed at gunpoint by a female biker on the road; they get into a car crash when they are trying to escape from her; and then the "sheriff" ... ...threatens to bring more trouble. Fortunately though, when the car crashed one of the guys' girlfriend was thrown from the car and she was able to escape and evade capture for a while, while the others were brought to the sheriff's house. This is where the plot begins to thicken a bit more with torture, cannibalism and Leatherface ( the sheriff's massive deformed, psychologically disturbed adopted son who is always seen wearing a mask) chasing the ...

...a final journey with their girlfriends. In a generally awful movie (so bad I watched most of it on fast forward) this brought nothing to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise. Awful beyond belief. Tobe Hooper, stop making films now and forever, please? (this review also appears on dooyoo) ...

...family. Four Teenagers travelling through Texas to Mexico are in a car accident and are apprehended by the local 'sheriff'. The fight for survival is on, as they try to survive the wrath of Thomas and the rest of the demented Hewitt family.
I thought that this film was really good. It provides a detailed and gruesome prequel to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, though it relates more to the remake than the original. It shows how the Texas Chainsaw Massacre ... ...was the acting, I like when movies don't have well known actors, adds to the realism. The gore was pleasing and in a decent amount, but you can never have too much gore in a horror film. There weren't many shocks in this film, so if you want to be scared out your seat this film will disappoint. However it is still horrific in places. The DVD was purchased from Ebay for less than a fiver, but it was only a rental copy version. So there were no special ...

Advantages: Plenty of gore and dark humour Disadvantages: not enough story depth and character development
...same production team behind 2003's Texas Chainsaw remake were at again, this time with a prequel, my initial thought was that it sounded pretty compelling.
Just how did Thomas Hewitt end up as a rampaging killing machine with a flair for gruesome deaths and torture? How did he end up with a fetish for wearing the macabe 'masks' carved from his victims flesh?
And just how did he get his hands on that damn chainsaw?
This film answers these questions ... ...in my opinion. The early years of leatherfaces' life are simply glossed over in a montage of images during the opening credits. I would have liked to have seen them take a look at his childhood, how he was affected by his deformity and those surrounding him. It seems the producers simply wanted to cut to the chase and the gore quite literally with this movie. This kind of disappoints as it would have been interesting if they had had delved deeper ...

Advantages: Well made prequel, very scary Disadvantages: extremely graphic, slightly predictable
Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006)
Starring: Jordana Brewster, Cyia Batten, Diora Baird, Matthew Bomer
Directed By: Jonathon Liebesman
The producers behind the 2003 remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre deliver us with this impressive prequel.
On a road trip, two brothers and their girlfriends get into a road accident which forces them to call the local sheriff to the scene, when the sheriff turns out to be the deranged and homicidal Charlie ... ...a terrying trip. Hewit kidnaps them and takes them back to a secluded home, where the monstrous Leatherface is getting to improve and refine his 'abilities' . The group are in for a horrific night filled with terror as the only escaped victim, Chrissie, tries to rescue the others.
Cram packed with terrifying moments of suspense and grisly gore scenes, this prequel is no less disturbing than the first. More graphic and extreme than Saw and Hostel ...
