Swordfish (DVD)

I have heard some people say that this is rubbish. But, to be quite frank, they are wrong. 'Swordfish' is entertaining from start to finish, and I find it hard to say much bad about it, to be honest. The storyline involves several clever twists and turns, although it is possible that the film tries to be a little too clever at the end. Most of the bad press about 'Swordfish' results from the "gratuitous" and "unnecessary" sexual elements that "litter" ...
...is a little confusing - why does she do it? Even Stanley (Hugh Jackman) the lucky recipient seems completely confused. Then there's the "nude" Halle Berry. OK, so she is topless for no apparent reason, but only for a few seconds; it certainly isn't like she spends the whole film with no clothes on! I had high hopes for this from the Trailer. Good cast (John Travolta, Hugh Jackman (Wolverine in X-Men) and Halle Berry), good looking plot….some computer hacking terrorism type stuff and what looked like some good action. What did we get? I got to see Swordfish at an advance pre-view for cinema managers and have to say I throughly enjoyed it. For the acting quality - er NO, for the storyline - er NO, for Halle Berry topless - er NO (well perhaps a bit), for the ace computers - er NO. I enjoyed it for the top notch explosion that was so good they showed it twice. The rest might have enhanced my viewing of the movie as did the major car chase/gun battle mid way through the film, but ...

This film starts off with THE MOST amazing explosion sequence that you will ever have seen in any movie EVER! It really is that good. The only problem is that the explosion occurs very near the end of the story and so it makes the start slightly confusing. I'm sure it doesn't matter that much but it does mean that the film is better when seen for the second time. The other problem is that when the explosion happens again in the main part of the film ...
...you don't get the chance to bask in its glory a second time. Apart from that very minor groan I thought this film was very good. The acting is very good in most cases. Travolta in particular pulls off a very good performance with his character being a dispassionate killer who lives life fast and on the edge. Swordfish is an excellent movie that stars John Travolta. It is based around a reformed computer hacker who is forced to go back to computer hacking to work for a massive 'criminal.' He has to do this in order to earn ten million dollars enough to pay for the lawyer he needs to win back his daughter in court. The film is fairly unrealistic at times. For example at the start of the film he has got to break a two hundred and fifty six bit encryption ...
...has got to break a one thousand and twenty four bit encryption in sixty seconds. Sounds very realistic! The film though does have very good special effects and stunts.
