The movie showcases the summer of 1977 through the eyes of some of the young people who lived through it in fear of the Son of Sam, David Berkowitz. I would highly recommend that you view it, at least once. ...

Advantages: Groovy Late 70s Soundtracks, Quite a Thriller ! Disadvantages: Nothing that comes to mind
INTRO: Picture it if you will ... it's 1977 (I was 9 years old at the time by the way, but still have fond memories of that year!) The Scene is New York City, and we are talking of an acute (in my opinion) cross-over period in musical history from Punk Rock (the American version at least, i.e. the famous C.B.G.B. scene with the likes of the Ramones, Blondie {in the early years}, Lou Reed, the Andy Warhol scene etc, etc.) into the very famous 'Disco' ...

Advantages: great graphics, novelty selection screen, interviews and more Disadvantages: slightly long film, graphic violence in places
...factual serial killings of the summer of 1977 are so cleverly embedded in the plot of his overlaying story that it all runs together.
His story is set in the Bronx during a heatwave and you can feel the city sweltering under the pressure of a serial killer and the hotest summer on record. The thing Spike does best is tell a story that is so real you love and know all his characters by the end and have to play your favourite scenes again and again ...

Advantages: Good film and extras - Spike Lee's first commentary. Disadvantages: A few cliched characters.
Whilst trying to aspire to both the technical ease of Goodfellas and the casual charm of Boogie Nights, this film doesn't quite manage to attain either but is still one of Spike Lee's best films in years, and his first to feature a primarily white cast. Plus he gets to direct his first orgy sequence!
Rather than focusing on the 1970's 'Son of Sam' murders as the main plot point, or, indeed, portray killer David Berkowitz as the main character, ...

Advantages: Great value for money, each scene is a work of art Disadvantages: Some scenes are quiet upsetting
...and this is exactly what Summer of Sam is. The fictional story unfolds against the backdrop of real events in New York, in the memorable summer of 1977. The city is in the grip of a heatwave and the terror of a serial killer. John Leguizamo and his Italian Brooklyn buddies are as usual full of pasta and prejudice and the 'punk' tendencies of their mate Adrian Brody brings out the worst in all of them. This is a truely great film with wonderul disco ...

region coding Review ofSummer Of Sam (Wide Screen)by

Advantages: get the region 2 disc Disadvantages: price
...purchased the region 1 of SUMMER OF SAM this disc has no extras but film is still excellent . Imagine my horror when the region 2 disc came out this week and has loads of extra's including a Directors commentary. Normally region 1 discs offer far more value for money this is a rare exception. Another example is EYES WIDE SHUT the region 2 version being uncensored and the region 1 is censored. Summer of sam is about NY city in 1977 when punk and disco ...
