...I sat down to watch Step Brothers after being told by a friend, who has a similar sense of humour to me, that it was pretty funny and worth a watch. Advantages: Absurd, sweet, consistentally hilarious. Disadvantages: Not quite up to the standard of, say, Anchorman.
Director Adam McKay's third feature length collaboration with Will Ferrell falls some way short of their previous efforts, Anchorman and Talladega Nights, but it's still a joy to be in the company of, and considerably better than, say, Ferrell's Semi-Pro of the previous year.
The film reunites Ferrell and Talladega Nights co-star John C. Reilly to tell the tale of two unemployed men who still live with their parents and are thus forced into what ... ...to meet, fall in love and get married.
The film very much runs along the lines of similar kids-who-hate-each-other-but-come-to-love-one-anot her-in-the-end pictures, the joke being, of course, that Reilly and Ferrell are quite clearly grown men. This central gag is milked for all its worth, and the pair's antics - running the gamut from the gleefully absurd to the psychotic - are frequently hilarious.
What Stepbrothers brings to the fore is the ...

...C Reilly play the two step brothers Brennan and Dale and they really are very good in the role. They completely suit the type of actor needed for this role in the way they pull off the actions and the way in which they come across as still being like young children. The roles of the parents are played by Mary Steenburgen and Richard Jenkins of which I would say was again a good choice. They do well at showing how they try to make it work having their ... ...other actors that stood out for me were Kathryn Hann Adam Scott who played the roles of Brennan's brother Derek and sister in law Alice. There is a scene involving them and their two children Tiffany and Tommy, played by Elizabeth Yozan and Lurie Poston all singing in the car which is highly amusing and they managed to pull off this scene very well with the singing and the way they all acted at the same time!
I personally thought the cast did very ...

I recently watched this movie in the cinema and laughed the entire way through. It is definately the funniest film i have seen for a good few months - so good that i went back to see it for a second time!!
The Story Line...

...up directed to the film Step Brothers instead. I didn't realise until after a few minutes that it was a completely different film but decided to give it a go anyway. Boy, am I glad I did - I had the most fun for the next hour or so that I have done all year watching something. Basically Will Ferrell (Brennan) and John C Reilly (Dale) are two 40 year old sons who have never left home, they've never worked and they still act like teenagers. They become embroiled in various tit for tat arguments which always have some great lines as well as some funny physical aspects.

Advantages: Fairly wide range of characters and ok storyline Disadvantages: The humor was a little ridiculous at times
This is a comedy explosion between the well known Will Ferrell and John C Reilly (The River Wild).
Ferrell stars as Brennan Huff whilst Reilly acts out the character of Dale Doback. The two grown men are forced to live with one another when their parents meet and marry. Their antics become worryingly violent until Dale meets Brennan's ... ...sibling creates a bond between the two men and they spend their days acting as children and refusing to get work, much to the annoyance of thier parents who want them shipped out so that they can cruise around the world in Dale's father's beloved boat.

Advantages: A hilarious take on Sibling Rivalry, Great Family Movie Disadvantages: None! Unless You Dislike Laughing!
Whether you like this movie or not will depend entirely on two factors; If you like Will Ferrell, and if you have siblings relatively close to your own age. I have a brother a year younger than me and I was nearly wetting myself laughing at points during this film, as Ferrell and his new 'step brother' create constant slapstick entertainment by simply mimicking the classic arguments between brothers and sisters around the globe! Once you get your ... ...something year old men have the brains of toddlers in this movie it presents itself as a true testament to the comical genius of Will Ferrell. Overall I loved the movie, and anyone who has a brother must watch it, if even only to re live the moments ...

The Cons
The movie a lot of the time seems like the sceen is built on swear words, which I was okay with as this was what I expected, but I think a few people may find it very offensive.
The film is quite presictable and its really the individual scenes that are funny, not the movie as a whole.

Advantages: Will Ferrell+ John Reilly= Funny Disadvantages: Predictable
Ruder than Blades of Glory, cruder than Anchorman and funnier than Tallegda Nights, what more could you ask for from a film starring Will Ferrell? Ferrell and Reilly team up to provide the laughs in this film which despite having a predictable plotline is still hilarious! I must say this film was far funnier than i was expecting, usually the movie trailers show you the best parts of the film, this was not the case here, far funnier than previewed.
