This film has everything sex, gore, explosions. It is in short a real lad's film. I am not saying that it won't be enjoyed by the fairer sex but...I don't know any that have!! The Earth is coming under a new alien threat from bugs! They even drop a meteor on Brazil (an idea they stole from Jerry Niven's novel Footfall) and the worlds Governments decide that a hard miltary strike back at them is the only solution. This film has always posed one question on me, why don't they just Nuke the whole planet instead of sending 18 year olods down to be massacered? I had always assumed that Starship troopers was a good riproaring film, along the lines of Robocop. I've only just watched Starship Troopers, after all this time, four years after it came out (I think it was all the hype at the time that put me off) and had to rethink things. I thought it was pointless teen trash. It's directed by Paul Varhoeven, has a promising futuristic backdrop, and good special effects, but any other comparisons to Robocop ...
...to the teen-flick cast and the cardboard acting, there's not many people over 18 who are going to think Starship Troopers is that great. Sci fi anoraks, and teens, will no doubt love it. For more discerning filmgoers, the appeal of the satire wears off after about 30 minutes. ...

Paul Verhoeven's STARSHIP TROOPERS is exactly what it sets out to be: fun, sometimes exciting, imaginative and wildly entertaining to boot! But it's also got something many films in this genre try for and miss - spirit. I can't say that the world is a better place due to STARSHIP TROOPERS, but for all-out, undiluted, grand escapist entertainment - it's a small masterpiece in its own right. Every level of this film works flawlessly. The acting is ...
