Advantages: Gripping, addictive, plenty too watch, perfect in most ways Disadvantages: expensive and may take up most of your days for the next while
...a massive fan of the Stargate franchise since my older brother brought home the first season box set a couple of years ago and we sat down to watch it nearly every day.
Ok, so first I’ll begin with an explanation of the Stargate SG1 universe. Here goes. Humans are a the next step in the evolutionary path of a race of aliens known as the ‘Ancients’. They were a massively advanced race both in technoligy and mentaly who existed millions of years ... ...a device known as the Stargate that is capable of near instantanious travel between two of the devices usually situated on different planets though sometimes appear in space. So when the Ancients ascended they left behind stargates on thousands of worlds. Next we have a parasitic race known as the goa’uld which are symbiotes that burrow into a host body and take control of it usually enhanncing its abilities. But these symbiotes are all egomaniacs ...

Advantages: action, adventure, good storyline Disadvantages: addictive!
...a spinoff from the original Stargate film it stands up rather well.
Of course the actors are not the same but Richard Dean Anderson does a good job. In fact they all do!
The set contains the original tv pilot and the whole of series one.
The story centres around the stargate, an intergalactic gateway, made by an ancient alien civilization.
These aliens are not benign and have used humans for centurys as host bodies because they are easy for them ... ...the intrepid crew use the stargate to explore.
The cast includes Richard Dean Anderson, Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping( the know it all female sex factor) andChristopher Judge as the alien Teal'c.
The effects are pretty good for a tv show, and the storylines have a nice mix of adventure, humour and of course aliens and fighting!
The extras are not astounding, but well worth a look. I liked the behind the scenes footage where we find out that Teal'c ...

Advantages: A great start to a fantastic series Disadvantages: some episodes aren't that great as the show was just finding its feet.
...of the enormously popular series Stargate SG-1. The series is based upon the movie "Stargate". Stargate SG-1 is about a team (composing of a US Airforce Colonel called Jack O'Neil, a genius astrophysicist who is also a Captain in the US Airforce, Samantha Carter, a linguist and archeologist called Daniel Jackson and an Alien soldier named Teal'C) as they explored the galaxy by travelling to various places through a device called the Stargate. Season One has a great mix of episodes, and it is the variety of genres, themes and plots explored that makes this such a great series. The episodes are well written and well acted. There is humor, action and suspense. The season is packed with high concept Sci-fi, action, and adventure.
The special effects are great, and the soundtrack (particularly the theme) is fitting
In season one newcomers will be ...

Advantages: EXCELLENT SCI FI, BRILLIANT ACTING, AMAZING SPECIAL FX Disadvantages: NONE
Stargate S.G.1 based on the Stargate movie. This series is one of the best science fiction series ever. The series follows S.G. 1 on their missions to other planets through the Stargate. The S.G. 1 team are made up of Jack O'Neill (2 L's), Samantha Carter, Daniel Jackson and eventually Teal'c. Colonel Jack O'Neill is very anti establishment and has a lot of funny one liners and always seems to be the one getting shot, blown up, zapped, transported ... ...Carter is the science geek, if it is broke or needs fixing she can fix it. She uses words like exponentially a lot. Amanda Tapping plays her. Daniel Jackson is an archaeologist who originally told the world that the pyramids were landing pads for alien ships. Micheal Shanks plays him. Teal'c is a Jaffa and he starts off as a "baddy" but he really does not beleive in the false "gods" the Goa'uld. He helps S.G. 1 to escape and becomes part of the team. ...

...to watch or are confused, Stargate is a spinoff of the movie "Stargate".
A large ring (later known to be the Stargate) is dug up in Egypt and it turns out that it is a gateway to other planets through some metaphysical stuff that is of no concern to anyone. But, the US Military is controlling access to the gate and sends Colonel Jack O Neall (known otherwise as Mac Gyver - Richard Dean Anderson) through with the scientist and a small group of soldiers.
... ...it is discovered that the Stargate goes to many more places, once they figure out how to use it, thus turning them into explorers, going to other worlds to see what they can find in terms of salvageable technology and other items.
Teal'c is one of the aliens, who after witnessing how the gaould mercilessly abuse other races, joins earth's forces to fight them, by using his knowledge to help the Colonel and his team - SG1.
