It’s these special effects that really help make the movie, its them that make the whole fantasy believable, people had to genuinely trust what they were watching which was so difficult at the time. The idea of a kind of worn out future helps the spectacle, a concept that was new at the time with ragged spaceships and ghetto style cities, something that was maybe easier to reconstruct and ... ...my favourite of all the Star Wars movies as, despite being similar in style as A New Hope it was as equally as groundbreaking in its concept. Advantages: The original and best space opera trilogy EVER!!! Disadvantages: Not many... too many new changes? Still features Ewoks!
...original (well... sort of original!) Star Wars trilogy... Love or hate the changes that George Lucas has made to the trilogy, it IS still magical and it IS still Star Wars!!!
This DVD box-set comprises of 4 discs. Discs 1 - 3 Contain the movies (Episodes IV - VI) and disc 4 contains an extensive array of extras.

...just to hear glimpses of Star Wars on TV. I remember seeing Jedi on the big screen and getting a big poster adorning my wall for years after. So fast forward to a Saturday night in May of this year and I all I felt was crushing disappointment. The credits had rolled on Episode III and with it went a little bit of everything I'd grown up with. Of course the new instalments can never rival the original films. CGI ruined the new movies and to an extent ... ...the Star Wars trilogy, essentially it is but with all the CGI whistles and bells and tinkering it can never truly be the original trilogy and that's what narks me. DVD technology allows there to be more than one version of the film on a disc. Through seamless branching we've seen releases of The Abyss and Independence Day offer both Directors and Theatrical cuts. Advantages: Another Excuse to buy another Set of Star Wars Disadvantages: NONE
...there. I am a massive Star Wars fan, and thanks to my other half I’m now a proud owner of the Platinum 4 disc DVD Box Set. Just looking at them gets me all excited!!!!
Arrived on release date of Monday. In a nice looking box. This is the first time the original films have been released on DVD, they are the digitally remastered version, which is probably my only downside of this product, I just believe you shouldn’t mess with an already perfect piece ... ...disc that will please any Star Wars Fan and is worth the cost of the DVD Box Set Alone.
Firstly, the one and only downfall of this disc, you have to sit through 1 minute of copyright screen in different languages, so bear with it.

Advantages: Updated, fixed and Darth Vader preview in Ep III!!! Disadvantages: A bit expensive in the shops
When I first heard that Star Wars was coming to DVD I almost wet myself, and thats not somehting a grown man can admit to easily but its true. I watch Star Wars at least once a month and my videos were in dire need of replacement, and this was the answer. To my suprise I got the DVD set for only £25 in a shop but was horrified to find some shops charging as much as £39.99, rip off! get them online its a lot cheaper.
Anyway to the movies. To my amazement ... ...up a notch on the Star Wars -o- meter and that is with the death of Vader. When Luke removes his helmet his eyebrows are gone, which is a hint at what happens in Ep III and *drum roll* the ghost of Anakin has been replaced at the end with Hayden Christensen!!!!! For me this really made the new trilogy fit with the old but I can see how some people will have to be padantic and not like it. For me though I thought it was a nice touch.

...as you'd expect from a Star Wars THX Bells-and-Whistles DVD release) The bonus disk is packed full of extras that should keep anyone that wants to know more about the original trilogy happy for a good few hours. When it comes to the whole debate as to why they've released the Special Edition versions on DVD and not the originals, I believe that people will have to watch it and make up your own mind. If you've never watched the original Star Wars ... ...Star Wars universe and to see what everyone else makes such a big deal about. Just keep in mind that "most" of each film were made more than 20 years ago which visually is quite an achievement.
True fans will ALWAYS argue that "It's not the original films I watched when I was younger" and "He shouldn't have "improved" it. We liked the original one as they were". The only thing I would say there is if people don't like the new Special Edition releases ...

Star Wars Trilogy Box Set DVD.
Without sounding too excited about the first DVD release for the first 3 star wars or is that the final 3 films. A can recommend this too anyone that wants to buy the box set.
Comparing it to the 2000 VHS Trilogy version, the conversion and re-mastering of it to DVD is top notch. The colour is excellent as it was in the original cinema version** and the sound effects are to be admired crisp and clear the better the ... ...VI) to fit in with Star Wars III now instead of Old Vader as in the original, you now see Young Vader (Anakin). To me thats the only niggling factor it should have been left the same as Vader was old when he died !! (Obi-One and Yoda are still old in the ending, why not Vader !!!)
Apart from that one glaring Episode III change everything is crystal clear, excellent sound and a good buy!! ...

These three films are in my top ten of all time. If you have never seen these movies, then where have you been hiding all these years?
All three movies tell the story of Luke Skywalker, a young farm boy who leaves his home planet to join the rebel alliance and fight the evil galactic empire. Along the way he lurns that his father was a jedi knight and was killed by the empire's cheif enforcer Darth Vader. He teams up with his fathers old master ... ...galaxy from a planet destroying battle station. I wont tell you much more as I would ruin it for those who havn't seen these classic films.
The DVDs have new scenes that were included in 1997 video specail editions, plus a few extras that help the prequel trilogy tie in with this one.
Aswell as the 3 films, there is a bonus disc which contains hours of extras and making of featurettes. There is also a preview of Episode 3: Revenge of the sith.

Advantages: If you've watched these films as a child you'll love them Disadvantages: for first time viewers not exactly compelling stuff
...child I've grown up thinking Star Wars is the greatest story ever told from Luke Skywalker's X-Wing blowing up the death star to the biggest revaltion of movie history that Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's 'Father'.
But when I watched the entire trilogy recently I couldn't help but think if I hadn't loved star wars as a child would I really still believe its the greatest series of movies and as much as it pains me to say this but the answer is no.
... ...the prequels but when you compare the fight scenes you realise exactly how badly made the oiginal fight scenes were.
I still love Star Wars but the fact of the matter is there are better trilogies out there and this by no means is the greatest story ever told. ...

Advantages: In a box Disadvantages: the spines are silver not gold
When i got my copy of these 'films' i thought that that there was only one edition out, the silver/black edition. if that is so, then Mr. Lucas has certainly spun a fast one on us all, the spines on ep.1 and ep.2 are gold while the remainder are silver, and lets face it in an ideal world, we would prefer it if they all matched and not three gold and three silver.
The box too is a bit of a let down, Mr Lucas could of easily forseen (no pun intended) ... ...bonus disc could fit in when the final film is released, or is this going to be another money spinner from Mr. Lucas again to weed more money from us.
There is nothing wrong with the films except.... (oh dear) they are soo clear and crisp, you can see virtually every single matt line around space ships. even at one point i saw the wire holding a wobbling robot up in ep.4 behind luke and boi-wan. these films have to be messed around with again to ...

The arrangement is elegant and to meet the genre of sci-fi slightly futuristic with the 3D texture and black and silver colours. The main characters including one of my favourite actors - Harrison Ford (Han Solo) and the ... ...those who are new to Star Wars and would like to know the plot of each of the movies previously try the fantastic IMDB and the other fantastic reviews. I have no objection to these digitally mastered versions and can only thank Lucas for the superbly updated special effects and little suprises that are great to look out for.
