Advantages: Great story + great soundtrack = great film. Disadvantages: Erm.....it's a documentary....and if you don't like Motown don't bother watching.
What? You've never heard of the Funk Brothers?
Watch this film and learn all about them.
First of all, add up all the numbers ones that The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Elvis had. Quite a few, all told. The Funk Brothers had more but they were largely uncredited for what they did.
These were the guys playing the instruments on pretty much every Motown record that hit the top from 1959 to the early 1970s.
That includes songs like I Heard It ... ...Love and still many more besides.
This fantastic movie tells their story from their humble beginnings in Detroit. Along the way are interviews with the some of the guys who are still alive. It's intercut with great live concert performances of these (now old) men playing alongside contemporary singers.
Once they begin to play their music, you can't help but be impressed.
And even during the talky bits get a bit much and you runk the risk of getting ...
