Whenever Your in Trouble Won't You Stand By Me

Advantages: Great film with gr8 actors
Disadvantages: Seems to be something missing

...'The Body' by Stephen King, Stand by Me. Gordie Lachance is the narrator of the film, as a middle aged man with children, he's looking back on his time as a 12 year old boy and his friends and what they got up to on their biggest adventure. Lachance and 4 friends set out to find a body of a young boy around their age who had gone missing to get fame and fortune. However, they are faced with having the town's bullies also looking for the body. Who ...
...despite the fact I can't stand him as an actor is Keifer Sutherland who plays the town bully. He and his friends are also in search of the body and will stop at nothing to get it. ===Why is it good?=== ----------------------- It's very rare where you see films which follows just four very young actors cause as they say in showbizzness, never work with children or animals. The other amazing thing about this film, is with child actors they are usually ...

Summer 1959, Castle Rock, Oregon. Four 12 year old boys hang out together, tease one another and play cards in their treehouse. Gordie is the sensitive one, the boy that wants to become a writer. Chris Chambers is the one with the troubled home life, he’s labelled a thief at school but deep down he’s one of the best friends you could have. However Vern is under his porch one day, looking for the jar of pennies he buried there months before and he hears his brother and his friend talking. They’re saying that there’s a kid’s body down by the rail tracks. Ray Brower, who was a pupil at their school, went missing a while ago and no one's seen him since. Chances are, the body is his. Vern can’t wait to run breathlessly to the ...

He is writing a book about a particular time in his childhood, sharing memories of his friends and the experiences they had growing up. ...The Story Stand By me is based on the short story 'The Body' which was written by Stephen King. The film is narrated by one of the main characters in the film, Gordie Lachance. He narrates the film as a 40 something man, with children who is looking back on his life, at a time when he was 12 years old. What the hell is Goofy?

Advantages: Funny, Moving, Great Cast
Disadvantages: Not as much action as there could be

Stand By Me is an excellent coming-of-age movie released in 1986. The story was written by Stephen King named 'the Body', it has an excellent soundtrack, a brilliant cast, and it is moving and funny. In the back of your mind while watching this film is the knowledge that in under 10 years later Corey Feldman would have a drug addiction and River Phoenix would have died of a lethal drug cocktail. The cast include Wil Wheaton (who went on to Star ...

The story is narrated by Richard Dreyfuss who is Wil Weatons character, as a man with children of his own. Some Quotes: Gordie: Mickey is a mouse, Donald is a duck, Pluto is a dog. What's Goofy...? Teddy: He's a dog, he's definitely a dog... Chris: He can't be a dog, he wears a hat and drives a car... Vern: Yeah, that ...

Advantages: Filled with humor, suspense and some excellent acting
Disadvantages: None.

-------------------------------------- The Film -------------------------------------- Stand By Me is one of those films you simply never forget. The main reason I've chose to review it is that unfortunately many people never see the film which I think is a great shame. I originally saw most of the film when I was in comprehensive school in my history class. As soon as I started to watch the film I knew it was going to be one of those all time ...

The body

Advantages: Brilliant storyline outlining trust and morals in childhood friendships
Disadvantages: N/A

Stand by me is a film which will always remain close to my heart, a video which was mischievously shown to me by older brother when I was only about aged ten or eleven and has since then, stuck with me throughout my life. The film follows a group of four pre adolescent young teenagers who embark on a friendship testing adventure to find a dead body. Perhaps what first made me fall in love with this film was the fact that at about aged ten or eleven, ...

Stand by me- Best movie EVER

Advantages: River Phoenix's acting, can watch over and over
Disadvantages: None

This is my all time favourite film. It was released in 1987 and is based on a book by Stephen King, however it does slightly differ from the book. The movie is short and sweet (89 mins) but the short time frame does not compromise the movie in anyway. Its about 4 young boys who embark on a journey to find a dead body. Although this doesn't sound so great, it is. The story focuses on a young Gordie Lachance. It is actually narrated by an older ...
...having a narrator helps with the plot and provides some great background to some of the characters. The best thing about this movie is the actor River Phoenix, his performance is nothing short of amazing. His down to earth attitude and quirky personality in this makes Chris Chambers a character not to be forgotten. The other main actors are Wil Wheaton who plays his role well. Him and River Phoenix are convincing as best friends. Jerry O Connell- ...

Friendship, Nostalgia, a journey to yester-year!

Advantages: Nostalgic, sentimental!
Disadvantages: Watch the film and then you tell me, none I can think of...

I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone? So true; this has stood the test of time amongst my all time favourite movies, many have come and gone, none have touched me quite like this one. I probably hold a sweet spot for this movie due to the relevance it has in my own life, it definitely makes me think each time i watch it, on the rare occasion fetching a glint of a tear to my eye, but enough ...
...the plot for those who haven't had the fortune to have viewed this wonderful movie. The movie is narrated throughout by a man reflecting back upon his childhood, memories stoked up by the recent event of the loss of one of his childhood friends. The movie is based on the novel 'The Body' which I also highly recommend. The title, 'the body', has relevance, as the four main characters go in search of a dead body. Along the journey we share in the ...

Stand by me

Advantages: excellent story, brilliant acting
Disadvantages: due to the age of the film its not as cutting edge as new films

Quite simply if you havent seen this film you need to, and if you have seen this film you need to own it. This is a timeless "coming of age" story involving 4 young lads and an adventure of a life time. While their childhood is fast coming to an end the experiences these boys encounter during this film will bond them for a lifevtime. This is an excellent film and will particularly appeal to the male population as the adventures they encounter are ...

One of THE coming of age films

Advantages: Sterling cast all performing to their best
Disadvantages: That I can't be transported back to being a 12 year old boy

It's one of the great coming of age films that us blokes seem to like watching for a good old nostalgia trip. No doubt you bought a son/newphew/brother the Dangerous Book for Boys for the simple reason that you wanted to give it a good flick through yourself. Based on the story "The Body" by Stephen King, the story is told in the flashback format by one of the main characters, Gordie back to when he was 12. Its set in the 50's although much of what ...
...up in pretty much any decade of the 20th century. It's poignant, funny, dramatic, exciting and most of all reminds of those halcyon days before exams, girls and work started to bother you. Not only that but the whole cast put in a sterling effort so even a cold-hearted woman who hated her childhood would still struggle to resist it's charms. ...
