...parts of my childhood, and Stand By Me is definitely one of them. I thought I would review it after my op on Practical Magic – one of my favourite films. In that op I mentioned that Stand By Me was also one of my favourites, and as I typed those words I realised that I hadn’t actually watched the film in about two or three years. So I sat down the other afternoon with a mug of tea, a blanket (our house is freezing) and the film in question.
... ...consider it a classic.
Stand By Me is the film adaptation of the Stephen King novella ‘The Body’ which appears in the book ‘Different Seasons’. (Crazy-Christian recently wrote an excellent op on this book, I recommend you take a look). It is the story of four twelve-year-old friends in the summer of 1959, in the fictional town of Castle Rock, Oregon.
Gordie LaChance (Wil Wheaton) is the main character of the film. He is ...

Advantages: One word says it all. Unforgetable. Disadvantages: None
“Stand By Me” released in 1983, is an epic, brought from the narration of character, Gordie Lachance, currently a successful writer, remembering his times of the year 1959.
Within a small town of Castle Rock in Oregon, four 12 year old boys set out to go on the biggest adventure a 12-year-old could ever go on. The great gang of four, were Vern Tessio (played by Jerry O’ Connell), Teddy Duchamp (played by Corey Feldman), Chris Chambers ... ...by Wil Wheaton).
The four were inseparable—They had the same interests and shared a lot of time with each other. One particular day, Vern had overheard gossip on the location of the missing body of teenager, Ray Brauer, and shared the news with the rest of his friends! Full of great curiosity, they all decided to set upon a journey towards the body.
Chris is a born leader, and is highly looked upon by the others, though suffers abuse from ...

Stand by Me - a timeless classic, both the song, and the movie. Stand by Me is based on the Stephen King Short story, "The Body" - Found in the book "Four Seasons, alongside "The Shawshank Redemption", and I can safely say the movie does the book justice.
A story of 4 American boys, who live in the 60’s in your average small town. As with all young boys they want excitement and adventure, and if the truth be told, they want to find out what ... ...boys all want Geordi to stand up for himself, and this trip, for him is something to give him strength.
Chris (played by the late River Phoenix) comes from a rough family. His brothers are all bad to the bone, and as a result everyone in the town expects Chris to be the same. He has never been given a chance in life, and it is suspected that he will end up in Jail before he is much older. For Chris, this trip is the chance to learn more about himself, ...

...his own.
CRITIQUE : Stand By Me is a classic movie and certainly one of the best most memorable movies that came out of the eighties. The setting, the soundtrack and the innocent tone of the movie are truly brilliant and seeing this movie on sale last week, I just had to buy it. I don't think I've seen child acting this good in years. The four leads are great and are truly believable characters. My only quibble is that some scenes between Gordy ... ...gazes and touching but it's not something that makes much difference. The film is extremely poignnant and the ending is in many ways quite heartbreaking - we learn that the gang don't remain friends for much longer but also that two of the gang fell on bad times - the death of Chris is particularly sad due to the premature death of the actor who plays him, River Phoenix who died from drugs in 1993, just 7 years after the movie was completed, The ...

...the two main characters really stand out as young actors, and the leeches scene especially is funny. Kiefer Sutherland is also ace as, um, Ace, the leader of the 'bad guys' (older brothers and friends). In fact, the story is that strong that there are no weak characters or actors; it befits a wonderful movie.
'Stand By Me' is both a tremendously sad and delightfully happy movie: it reminds you of the great times of your childhood while making you ...

Advantages: a true to life film that reminds my husband of what it is like to be a young boy Disadvantages: you can get hooked, and watch it far to amny times
Just what you would expect life to be if you were a young boy, getting up to mischief and clowning around with your friends.
The film is based on the book "the body" by Stephen King. I believe most of KIngs books which have been made into films have not done them justice, but this is the exception!
The film is based on agroup of 4 boys who are best friends.
All of the boys are from a small town called castlerock, a quiet town where not much happens, ... ...The main character in the film is Gordie, a young man who gets little attention at home especially since the death of his older brother who was an obvious credit to the family. Gordie shows signs that he feels less loved than his brother, maybe due to his lack of ability concerning sport or maybe just due to all the pressure his parents had been under since the death of their eldest son.
The second character is a boy with a bad reputation, Chris. ...

You have to check this one out. What a story! Each of the four friends does at least some growing up on their journey -- okay, maybe not Vern so much, but they all do at least a little. I don't want to merely recap what happens in the movie, you can find dozens of summations of the everywhere... Corey Feldman should get more praise, I think, for his portrayal of Teddy. Teddy is the wild kid in this film, whose dad was a military man who "stormed ... ...the movie. Teddy really isn't intended to be the main character by any means, but as Kurt Vonnegut sometimes said, you really should pay attention to all the characters, because they're all human beings. Otherwise stories, whether they are books or movies, can skew the way you look at the world, if you only care about the "protagonist" in some ongoing drama in your life. Teddy is kind of a nutcase, but he seems to at least have dreams, and to try ...

Advantages: Emotional, Sentimental, excellent story & performances Disadvantages: Very american, a little too American?
Based on his book 'The Body', Stephen King broke his horror-mould when making this film, traditionally described as a 'Coming of Age' drama. However, that phrase turns a lot of people off, so don't judge it yet! It's a story of 4 friends approaching adolescence who go in search of the body of a child killed by a train. King goes into a little bit of background information on each character - be it Gordie's disjointed bitter family; Chris life as ... ...his father and his immense pride; or Vern's childlike mannerisms and fear of his brothers. All this knowledge go towards making the film more involving - the film adaptation is faithful as much as necessary - it leaves out some sections of the short-story that really wouldn't be so good on film, yet incorporates everything it needs to to get the story across. The individual performances are quite remarkable - some of the best child-acting I have ...

The storyline is good, although its not really my sort of film normally, not enough action. Saying that, this film would satisfy anybody whatever their movie tastes. This has become quite a classic movie what with River Phoenix starring in it. The story revolves around 4 young boys in 1959 who go on an adventure to try and find the body of a missing dead kid.
They leave their town and follow the train tracks up to the point where they have heard that missing kid lies dead.
The film is a heart-warming film of comradeship and not really the kind of thing I am personally into. I reckon this is more of a film for ...
