This was the film that was to transform Keanu Reeves from loveable air guitar geek Ted "Theodore" Logan into credible hard action man. Shorn of hair, but not of accent , it doesn't quite come off. ...film? Although, I think Speed is brilliant, you should look out for some fairly funny mistakes. In the scene with the gap in the freeway, the film is played in fast forward, to make it look like the bus is moving faster than it actually. There's nothing unusual looking about this until you look closely and watch the police in the background who are also in fast forward!! Speed is an absolutely awesome action movie. Jan De Bont was at the helm for this one and has produced a stunning movie. It has got the lot action, great acting, great plot and a little romance too. The film Speed is an action film which once the plot has been established simply races along. When you consider that the premise of the movie is that a bomb on a bus will blow up if the speed of the bus drops below 50mph then it has to hasn’t it. If Speed was to be released now, it would be considered a bit behind the times an the special effects would be considered a bit run of the mill. The plot would be average and predictable, and the excitement factor would be softened by the general presentation. However, when it came out in 1994, it was hailed as a huge blockbuster, with Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock heading the billing in the middle of a good run on both their careers. And with ...

Speed stars the fantastic Keanu Reeves and the wonderful Sandra Bullock, along with Dennis Hopper. The main part of the film is based around 'the bomb on the bus', but we also see a bomb on an elevator at the beginning. So basically, the entire film is based aroud a bomb on something! Harry and Jack (Keanu) are two cops who unfortunately are given the task of trying to save a lot of people on an elevator attached to a bomb, or the other way round, ...
...save these people and come face-to-face with the bad guy (Dennis). This events in Harry being shot and everybody believing the bad guy is dead. But it's obvious something else, something interesting is going to happen as we are only 45 minuites into the film! Harry and Jack recieve an award for their bravery, whilst the bad guy (who is, by the way, still alive!) watches in disgust and muttering to himself. The bad guy now decides to get his own back ...

Few films, aside from Die Hard, can deliver the adrenaline rush that come from this Keanu Reeves movie. Speed is a great film-need I say more! The main reason I like speed is because of the way the story pans out. Unlike most action films, there is just the one main bit. For example, in Speed instead of the train bit at the end, it would just end with the passengers being rescued. Instead there is the 'final battle' on top of a train (always good!) and Dennis Hopper gets his head knocked off by a light! The actors are great. I have always preferred ...
...to their full effect. Speed maximises the potential of its explosive scenes and while unrealistic eg. the jumping across the bridge still seems believable.
