Advantages: Side splittingly funny Disadvantages: My sides have spilt all over the floor
...and I love this movie. So the conclusion I have come to is that this movie can be considered racist if you are Scottish and have absolutely no sense of humour. When I first watched this movie it was purely by chance and chance for once dealt me a good one. I would never have rented this if it was not a slow release week, I had never seen Wayne’s World, and my friend who was with me was not in a hurry. Most my friends are probably a bit pissed ... ...Me and Stuart McKenzie from So I Married an Axe Murderer. OK so it is basically the same impression I do for both but it is the same voice that Mike Myers uses for both – I will use these impressions at any given opportunity and I am convinced that if I start shouting “There is a piper down, piper down” at another party then my girlfriend will leave me.
So what attracted me to this movie when I was in the video shop? I had seen ...

...murderer .
The film So I Married an Axe Murderer was made in 1993. It was directed by Thomas Schlamme and written by Robbie Fox. The film was billed as a 15 (Meaning it is unsuitable for anyone under this age to watch) in the UK. It is in the comedy genre and although the main cast aren’t all well known they certainly do the film justice. Cast is as follows…
Mike Myers .... Charlie Mackenzie/Stuart Mackenzie
Nancy Travis .... Harriet Michaels
... ...is fantastic in it. The cast work well together and the film isn’t too long at 93 minutes, so you won’t get bored or a numb bum, well not too much anyway. I give this 10 out of 10 and say if you haven’t seen it, go and get it! ...

Advantages: Excellent film, decent plot & Mike Myers! Disadvantages: How does he live when all he does is write poetry?
I can’t ever deny being a fan of Mike Myers. Most of his humour is right up my street, and although he didn’t write it his two roles in “So I Married An Axe Murderer” are right up my street.
Firstly there is Charlie McKenzie, young batchelor, seemingly frightened of commitment. Then there is Stuart McKenzie, Charlie’s father, an eccentric and a full-blooded Scot to boot. They are both wonderful characters, although Stuart McKenzie might just be ... ...There are plenty of other excellent characters, like Charlie’s best friend Tony, and Tony’s boss in the police department, but the other central character is Harriet, a woman Charlie falls dangerously in love with.
The film’s plot is decent enough too, with lots of twists, turns and amusing side incidents. Lots of laughs and a couple of nice twists too.
One point of criticism - Charlie McKenzie lives as a beat poet. How does he survive when all ...

...and the script is magnificently written. This film should get much more recognition that it has. This is in my opinion, a far greater work than Wayne's World or Austin Powers on intellectual depth. Austin may have more gags, but So I Married... gives you much more to think about. ...

Advantages: Funny, quirky stuff Disadvantages: Not much fun if you dislike Myers
...the wrong side of surreal, so you may not get the most out of this unless you "get" Myers brand of humour. O the acting front, Myers leaves enough room for everyone else to put in good performances The film ends in with a silly roof fight but it's a fun enough ride on the way and worth watching. Not the funniest film, ever but you could do a lot, lot, worse than watching this. ...

...World and Austin Powers) then So I Married an Axe Murderer is the film for you. It see Myres doing what he does best, playing multiple characters in his films. So I Married an Axe Murderer has the 15 certificate, so it is going to have a moderate amount of swearing in it, but not too much.

Advantages: Funny, cleaver, Mike Myers Disadvantages: None
This has to be one of the funniest films ever. As a mad scottish person I can totally relate to the Scot family. From the "heid" to the "do you think I'm sexy" this film cracks me up. Mike Myers is a god of comedy with other successes such as Waynes World and Austin Powers giving you an idea of the humour involved.
Myers stars as the committment phobic who writes very strange poetry about his ex's and drinks the largest cup of coffee I've ever seen. ... ...a lovely female butcher with a large cleaver on his way to buy a yummy haggis. The obvious happens and they fall in love but something is afoot. A mysterious woman is marrying men and killing them on the wedding night. Could it possibly be his love, this mad woman? Thats for you to find out! The soundtack is fab also.
A definite for Austin powers fans! ...

Advantages: Great chance to see some vintage Myers Disadvantages: perhaps not as great an the Austin Powers series
One reason to love this movie and thats Mike Myers. Myers plays the hapless 'Poet' Charlie McKenzie who has some major commitment issues , dumping one girl because she "Smelt of soup". When he meets a new love in the form of Becker's Nancy Travis , Charlie begins to beleive his luck is in. Until that is he is pointed towards an article about a touring Axe murderer and begins to doubt his new love. This movie is easy to watch and is a must for Myers ... ...you laughing throughout. Mostly for Myers superb dual role in which he also plays Charlies father (the character that was surely the basis for Shrek) A Scottish mad-man who is obsessed with the size of Charlies younger brothers Head "Look at the size of that thing , its huge , its like sputnik , Im not kidding thats a huge noggin". With great support from Brenda Fricker amongst others this is a must for Myers nuts and the rest of you will enjoy it ...
