Advantages: great cast, good humour, good thriller Disadvantages: none
...become a bit dated, but Sneakers hasn't. The reason for this is the plot, which some times a bit unbelievable, is still as thrilling today as it was back in the early 90's. Another bonus of the film is the number of stars that appear in it, there must have been a huge budget for the cast's salaries. With such an all star cast, it is quite surprising that Sneakers never really got the critical acclaim it deserves.
The main character in this film ... ...course, and I don't mean to be sexist in anyway, but Sneakers does have 2 actors which have melted many generations of women's hearts in the guises of Robert Redford and River Phoenix.
Sneakers is available on Amazon at the bargain price of £4.97 which is a great price. ...

Advantages: Has a few twists and turns Disadvantages: Not the most fantastic film ever
We could tell you what it's about. But then, of course, we'd have to kill you.
That was the tag-line for this not very well remembered film starring Robert Redford. The film is based around a group of "sneakers" - people who sneak into banks etc. to show the owners of said establishments what is lacking in their security. The team consists of:
Martin Bishop - The guy with a past - Robert Redford
Donald Crease - The black guy who got chucked out ... ...The blind guy - David Strathairn
Mother - The conspiracy theory guy - Dan Ackroyd
Carl Arbegast - The juvenile delinquent guy - River Pheonix
Liz - The ex of Martin, and basically hardened gal guy - Mary McDonnell
The team gets approached by a couple of guys claiming to be from the NSA, who ask them to retrieve a black box which is capable of decoding anything. Initially Bishop declines, but rapidly changes his mind once the NSA guys make it ...

SNEAKERS derives its name from the occupation of the film's protagonists. They're hired by companies to try to break into them, notably their computer systems, or "sneaking". I've never heard the term before, but "hackers" doesn't sound quite so pleasant. The team has that Hollywood-style diverseness - one of everything cliché - blind guy, tough beautiful woman, nerd, black guy, etc. Bishop, played by Robert Redford, heads them and he has a past ... ...universal computer breaker-inner. Really, and it's much easier to load and operate than Windows! Sneakers is a Mission:Impossible-lite, if you can imagine it. No rough stuff, very family-friendly, Saturday night popcorn movie. Nothing great, and you won't feel ripped off for renting it...just remember to put the brain on autopilot. ...
