...the right back alley in Sin City and you can find anything. You may even find a film that was very close to never getting made. Frank Miller, the author if the "Sin City" series of graphic novels this film was based on, is not a fan of Hollywood and promised that he would never sell the film rights to his graphic novels. Advantages: Great Story and Acting Disadvantages: A Bit Gory for Some
Sin City is one of those films that I heard of and really wanted to go and see at the cinema but because it was technically a black and white film, nobody would come with me. Sad but true. Anyway I bought it the day it came out on DVD and let me tell you I was not disappointed. -----

Verdict;
Now this film is not from your average comic book. For those who were fans of Frank Millers graphic novels then you will know that the entire comics were in black and white. Strange for a comic book you may think but they were very violent. I have only recently just had a look at them due to being a fan of the film and was quite surprised in the content. ...

...the BBC2 premiere of 2005's Sin City tonight with no aspirations for what the film should be like or for what the storyline should be, infact the only thing I knew about the film was that it was a pretty big deal and featured a very artistic taste of cinematography that I didn't think I would take to.. but more on that later on. I soon realised that Sin City was actually a bunch of little stories set on a popular comic book series by Frank Miller that have of course been brought to the big screen by Quentin Tarantino. I think it would be very easy for someone to bring a comic book to the big screen and completely avoid bringing in any aspects of ...

Sin City is just that. A city of sin. Most of the police are corrupt and those that aren't have a low life expectancy. Mercenaries come here, knowing there's bound to be someone who'll give them a job. Politicians run the mob. The clergy commit outrageous acts and get away with it. Sin City the film is based on a number of graphic novels by Frank Miller, one of the comic book world's deities, ranking probably a little lower than Jack Kirby and Alan Moore. The comic books, graphic novels, books (call them what you like), have a distinctive visual style as well as a bleak outlook with a blackly humorous twist. Director Robert Rodriguez worked closely with Miller (plus a little bit of help from Quentin ...

...medium of film. Sin City is an adaptation of Frank Miller's comics (sorry, graphic novels) of the same name. It follows the stories of three people who live in the fictional town that seems to have degraded beyond redemption. It is also shot mostly in black and white with the insertion of a couple of strong colours, in keeping with ... ...Rodriguez has not simply adapted Sin City from the original comics, but nearly cut and pasted them over, and made almost no changes to the script. The effect was a bold visual impression, which remained as two dimensional as the paper it was printed on. Part of this misguided relocation of style is the narration from each central character, which smothers most of the film. It may be trying to capture the inner workings of the protagonists mind as ...

...ultra-violence and fast paced action, Sin City is a a modern classic, and certainly one of the best neo-noir films ever. Robert Rodriguez not so much adapts from Frank Miller's comic books of the same name, as directly transfer them to the big screen. A transition made with ease and one that works incredibly well. ...to be released such as Sin City and it is based on that opinion that I have decided to write a review for it.
The first thing that comes to mind when one considers watching this film is the rating, 18. Advantages: Its unusual to say the least, most definitely different, good cinematography Disadvantages: Weird, silly, far fetched and plain odd
Given Sin City (released in 2005) received a LOT of praise (and largely has done well from the reviews written right here on Ciao too), I felt I had to spend a few moments casting my own views on the film for you. Largely because my views differ from those who've rated this film as "5/5 - superb piece of cinematography!", etc, etc.
YES, this film features some superb cinematography. Certainly like nothing I've seen before. It's new, its different, ... ...my books, it is.
Sin City was flagged as being the first film shot with "cartoon strip" style cinematography. Now when I first heard this, I wasn't sure what that actually meant. Did that mean it was essentially a cartoon in feature film length? Was it all drawings and animation? No. It features real actors. However, the real actors are doing unreal things. Sure, maybe they're "superheros", not disimilar to those in films such as "The Fantastic ...

...sleazy world of Frank Millers Sin City and offer that up for movie audience. Thankfully it was the creator himself that drove the project and the result of a comic book mind behind it has created not only a great film but also something very different. The first obvious thing you notice about the film is that it is shot in black and white, but like everything about this film has its own take on that. Advantages: looks great Disadvantages: bit too weird
This is good. It's tough to believe some of the actors never met each other even though their in scenes together.
Right, we'll talk about the cast 1st. Benicio Del Toro - wasted. Could have made so much more of this guy. I liked the scenes where he's "dead", their very surreal. Bruce Willis - very good, comes across a bit too "Die Hard" in certain scenes (I think the director should have told him to act, not pretend to be in another Die Hard Film). ... ...to believe though. Nick Stahl - Damn, I had to look up to see where I remembered him from - Terminator 3! He was pretty average, nothing to write home about. Even as the Yellow Guy he was difficult to watch. Micheal Madsen - I figure he was doing this for Quentin Tarentino as he barely appears at all, and the scenes he IS in he loses to Bruce Willis every time. Michael Clarke Duncan - I will apologize for mistaking this guy for Ving Rhames every ...
