...I earned from it. Signs was directed by M. Night Shyamalan and was released at the begining of August, 2002. I have been reluctant to write about the film called SIGNS because a strange thing happened the next morning and continues until today! Before you read this I wanted to tell you I have seen 3 ’’flying Saucers’’ and I haven’t decided yet if Angels and Aliens are the same thing. ~O THE STARS O~ Mel Gibson plays Graham Hess. Rory Culkin ...
...the Newspaper that shows the signs that are made in the Farmer’s fields. So I don’t think that this reveals much of the plot. In the movie you do see some old news reels that are suppose to explain why these Farmers are seeing crop circles, (the signs), and strange lights in the night sky in some Countries around the World. Naturally this makes these People even more afraid than they were before. The Aliens we see are not ’’little green or gray’’ ...

...best climaxes ever. But alas Signs is a complete turkey, too stale for Christmas lunch. I am not sure who is to blame, the director, the writers or the producer for having a low budget or perhaps Mr. Gibson for sponging most of it. All I can say again is that “Signs” promised a lot and delivered very little. I WOULD WAIT FOR THIS TO APPEAR ON C5. ...

Not a good sign

Advantages: Mel Gibson
Disadvantages: M Night Shyamalan not on good form

I like Mel Gibson. He's getting on a bit now but he's always been a watchable actor. Film choice has been getting a bit dodgy lately but I'm willing to go along with him. So when this film was released a few years ago I was disappointed not to see it at the cinema because not only does he star in it but it's also written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. This is the guy who wrote and directed 'The Sixth Sense' which I really enjoyed and 'Unbreakable' ...
...though with intelligent plots that kept you guessing so I had high hopes for 'Signs'. I thought the trailer for 'Signs' was very intriguing and tantalising so that was a good start. Mel Gibson plays a farmer in America who discovers mysterious crop circles in his fields and his family are disturbed by strange noises. Short clips in the trailer suggest ideas for what could be happening - aliens? supernatural? It all looks quite spooky and thrilling ...

Signs

Advantages: Great acting, gripping storyline, superb direction
Disadvantages: Some may find the conclusion disappointing

...Watching the Signs trailer, you would be forgiven for thinking that it was the latest overblown alien blockbuster. However the name M. Night Shyamalan should dispel any fears of a ninety-minute special effects showpiece rife with patriotism. Quite simply Shyamalan is that rare breed of director, a storyteller. From the opening frame to the last its Hitchcock territory all the way with every shot storyboarded down to the last detail. Like the Sixth ...
...on show, Signs central story takes a radically different direction. This isn’t so much a tale of alien visitation as it is about one mans search to rediscover his faith. In the role of Graham Hess, Mel Gibson side steps the charm and plays it straight with a gentle performance about one mans struggle to hold his family together. Family proves the films strongest theme as we begin with the Hess’s and stay by their side throughout. They ...

Best film I've seen this year

Advantages: Quality acting, great story, thrills aplenty
Disadvantages: weak ending

Saying this is another film from the wonder that is M. Night Shyamalan should be enough to make you go and see this film. But I'll elaborate. PLOT Mel Gibson plays Graham Hess a former priest turned farmer whose wife died leaving him with two children and no faith. Joaquin Phoenix plays Gibson's brother Merrill a former (non pro) basball player with varying county records including longest hit and most strike outs, a fact which stopped him going ...
...death of his wife to help with the farm and the kids. Soon after Graham notices patterns appearing in his crops and believes it is the work of local youths until similar reports are made worldwide. His children and his brother are quick to jump on the bandwagon of alien invasion whereas Graham remains sceptical until he meets one of the creatures. The film combines great special effects, thrilling storylines and heart stopping jumps from "things ...

Signs of a good film

Advantages: Superb Acting, Euphoric inner meanings
Disadvantages: Genre has been done before

Signs was anticipated by many to be a hit and it certainly didn't disappoint. Mel Gibson was superb in his role as Graham Hess and Joaquin Pheonix gave a rock solid performance. The main genre of this film was aliens and the supernatural. However, there is a definitive deeper meaning. The whole film centres around the issue of faith and whether or not everything happens for a reason. It touches on minor issues such as whether or not we are alone ...
...theme has been done before, Signs brings in sub topics, such as the theme of faith and everything is brought together perfectly. Signs is an excellent film and a leap forward in its genre. I would recommend it to anyone wishing to see a very powerful and riveting film. Hope you all enjoy it. ...

Advantages: Lessons to learn
Disadvantages: no big alien invasion

Signs is a movie by the acclaimed director M Night Shyamalan. Who directed THE SIXTH SENSE.Firstly about the director he has great ability to unravel a story in a non-chronilogical manner. He can keep the suspense ticking over even with the dullest of scenes. His movies come across in a atmospheric manner. He is truly a unique director that I would look out for. Signs, well its all in the title. Signs is what the movie is really all about on many ...
...save ourselves from ourselves. Signs conatains some light humour and has a very light script. The lighting and cinematography is beautifully constructed. The soundtrack works well with the editing, which is slow and well cut. The movie seems to bring its own quiet atmosphere so you can really feel what type of life the characters are living. I will not tell you much more about the movie except it is worth viewing, after i watched it I felt better ...

Set in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, it’s about Graham Hess, a reverend who lost his faith when his wife was killed in an road accident ...

...You could say all the SIGNS were good. However the trailor was decieving all the action was put into the trailor, (this is literally all the action). Graham is still struggling to come to terms with the death of his wife and has abandoned his faith, believing that there is nobody there to help us and that ...

A long awaited film

Advantages: An excellent suspenseful film
Disadvantages: disapointing ending

Signs the third movie from m. night shyamalan. As a fan of sixth sense and unbreakablewas one of thoose films that i had looked forward to for some time. The film centres around Graham Hess (Mel gibson) and his family on there farm and there discovery of crop circles in there field. From here the first half of the film is a case of "whats going on?" Is it aliens or is it a hoax. The first half of the film is wonderfully suspensful as you are never ...
...and the acting is top notch even from the younger actors who play the children Morgan (Rory Culkin) and Bo (Abigail Breslin). The second half of the film (without giving too much away) is again suspensful in parts, especially the basement scene, but was too strung out and had quite a bit of filler. All this leading to what seemed a very pointless ending that seemed to me like Mr shyamalan didn't really know how he wanted to end the film. Most of ...

...have you seen them all? When it comes to the films of M. Night Shyalaman it may well be. That's not necessarily a bad thing; it's just that I came away thinking much of the film was very, very similar to the Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, both of which I enjoyed. The film spends most of its time in the home of a reverend who's lost his faith, his brother and his two children, all of whom are vividly portrayed with strong performances from Mel Gibson, ...
...girl whose name I missed. Phoenix redeems himself for his hilarious performance in Gladiator (the one thing which spoilt an otherwise decent film for me) with a restrained display. I won't spend too much time on the plot, suffice to say Shyalaman's recurring themes of faith, the supernatural/extra-terrestrials and existentialism come through strongly once more. The direction is excellent throughout. Shyalaman keeps the pace just right, leaving ...

TRY SIGNS YOU'LL BECOME A SCI FI GEEK AFTER THIS AMAZING THRILLER

Advantages: Amazing storyline
Disadvantages: none to mention

Signs is a science fiction/thriller movie. Directed by the amazing M. Night shyamalan who has done many of my favorite movies. . e.g. 'The Happening' 'Lady in the water' 'The Sixth Sense'. It was released in the UK september 13 2002, by Touchstone Home Video. The Storyline: Graham Hess (Mel Gibson) and his family had been living in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. After a night of a confusing event they are told it was a possibility of an attempted burglary, ...
...are told extra-terrestrials are responsible. Signs is about a family who come together more than ever and forget their losses to try to survive through this wordly phenomenom. The mains actors/actresses: Mel Gibson (Rev. Graham Hess), Joaquin Phoenix (Merrill Hess), Rory Culkin (Morgan Hess) and Abigail Breslin (Bo Hess), The director himself also plays a small part like he does in all his films. Signs has won 2 awards and been nominated 15 times. ...

Why, Oh why did I rent this???

Advantages: Advantages?
Disadvantages: The story, the acting, the bad aliens....

Needless to say, I didn't think much of this at all. I was extremely dissapointed as it's a Spielberg... admittedly the trailer hadn't exactly spiked me to see it in the cinema, so I rented it on DVD. £3.50 down the pan. I am tempted to rant, so I'll be calm here. My first point will be the storyline - aliens that come to earth for world domination, been done, but so much better. You don't even see much of them though, most of the story is held ...
...turmoil and under attack! The subplot is how Mel Gibson handles this invasion, and his emotional side, recovering from the death of his wife. You know from the start something will spike him into action and break him out of his depression, might as well be some invading aliens... Macauley Culkin never did much for me as a child star, although now I think he's matured and is better. His brother, in this film, is still annoying and reminiscent of ...
