Advantages: Family Fun, Hilarious, Disgusting, Hilarious. Disadvantages: Will probably spawn a legion of DTV sequels.
...see what they’d do next. Shrek is it. In time-honoured style, they’ve taken a classic form and subverted it. Fairytale character clichés apply within, as the swamp home of our eponymous hero is overrun with evicted ex-copyrighted Disney characters. In his search for privacy, our misanthropic ogre (the green one in the poster, in case you haven’t guessed,) confronts the man responsible, Lord Farquod. Shrek gets roped into a quest ... ...a tale of true love unfolds…
Fairytale character clichés may be great for comedy value, but the story is in no way a cliché. This is no saccharine nonsense: In the tradition of Brothers Grimm, there are some nasty flourishes, but the whole effect is of a family film. The heart is of gold, but the mud hasn’t quite dropped off, which’ll keep the kids happy with fart gags and nose-picking. If you are without rugrats, there’s ...

Shrek isn’t your usual animated movie, it is different in a special way and personally I feel that the film is even more of a family flik then 'Stuart Little'. I enjoyed it totally and loved every minute of it, I never got bored and I was laughing approx. nearly every 5 minutes! be prepared for a family thriller, with humour, fun and sensitive sides, thanks ~M~

...by a certain ogre. Now Shrek is none too pleased with all this unwelcome company, being an ogre he does like to spend time on his own, only venturing out to growl at any passing soldier or villager who gets in his way. There's only one thing for him to do, go and get Lord Farquuad to give him his swamp back! ...thing straight from the get-go: Shrek is not a kids’ movie. It’s an everyone movie. The computer-animated fairy tale based on William Steig’s book is one of those rare cinematic snacks that will taste good to all audience members, from eight to eighty. For the junior set, there are plenty of pratfalls and fart jokes; for teens, there’s the “tight” (teenspeak for “cool,” also known as “groovy”) ... ...The Princess Bride. Shrek bears a passing resemblance to that 1987 fairy tale classic, but creates its own magic kingdom of memorable characters, soon-to-be-classic lines and fast-and-furious humour. [Note to parents with very young children: a couple of scenes can be quite scary (especially in the dragon’s castle) and there are a few mild profanities ...

Advantages: brilliant movies for all to see Disadvantages: none
Shrek is a brilliant movie from the people who made that other smash hit animated film ‘Antz’! It took them nearly three years to produce this high quality film, which is visually rich and technically challenging (according to the makers). Over 275 artists, computer animators, software operators, and engineers produced the film over the three years.
The film is aimed at children (and big children) and is certificate U. The film runs ... ...only about 3 families.
Shrek voiced by Mike Myers is an ogre, a big ugly green ogre at that. He lives by himself in the middle of a forest. He showers in mud and then dips in water. (Watch for the way Shrek obtaind his candle - it's classical). As for his other habits we won’t go into those, but rest assured they will make you smile! He doesn’t want any friends because; when they see him they are frightened of him because he is so ugly. ...

...With the release of Dreamwork's Shrek that time has past and at last the true talent of the ogre minority has been permitted to shine... The lead character is Shrek. Voiced by Mike Myers there is nothing this big smelly ogre likes better than bathing in goo and brushing his teeth with bug juice. Shrek is the answer- and somehow they all manage to get a walk-on part in this brilliant new animation produced by ex-Disney head Jeffrey Katzenberg.

This is where Shrek comes into the equation as he is coerced into undertaking this dangerous mission, which he must complete if he is to win back the rights to his home.

But this is not just a kids film, no- it works on several different levels.

...I will tell you…
Shrek (voice of Mike Myers) is the story of an ogre by the same name. He is a loner who he washes his teeth in green slime and he showers in mud. He is feared by everyone in the land of Duloc. He has no friends but for Donkey (Eddie Murphy). However, in this land there is a ruler called Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow) who has banished all fairy story characters from the land. Somehow they end up on Shrek’s land and Shrek ... ...they belong. An unintentional hero, Shrek is worshipped by the fairy tale folk for this seemingly great work of bravado. Farquaad is cruel - he even tortures gingerbread men - and he is a pipsqueak who must marry a princess to be official King of Duloc. The only one available to him is Princess Fiona, but she is being held captive in a castle by a dragon.
When Shrek arrives at his palace to demand the fairy tale people leave his land, Farquaad agrees ...

Yes, it's true! Shrek won the Oscar for best animated film, and justifiably too!
This Universal rated film is just one of the funniest family films out there right now, it's a must-see!
It stars Mike Myers (Austin Powers) as the Scottish-accented ogres Shrek, the inimitable Eddie Murphy (The Nutty Professor) as Donkey, Cameron Diaz (Charlie's Angels) as Princess Fiona and John Lithgow (Third Rock) as Lord Farquaad.
The plot is thus! Lord Farquaad, ... ...on the DVD is a Shrek in the Swamp Karaoke party at the end!
You do get quite a few extras with this, including:
Shrek's revoice studio (DVD Rom only)
Interactive Games
Character interviews (these are brilliant)
Filmmaker's Commentary
The Tech of Shrek
International Dubbing Featurette
Animated Menus
Production Notes, Cast and Crew Bins.

The Story
----------
Shrek (spoken by Mike Myers) is an Oger, a green, clumsy and goodhearted swamp-resident. He loves mud, his favourite food is “pierced eyes” and he also loves his loneley life. He thinks that no one would like him anyway because he is ugly and a monster, so he stays on his own.
