Shrek is one of those movies that will have you in stitches from the minute you start watching it, until the minute it ends! It's so funny. Is it aimed for children? Well, I think not! Although it is a family film, adults will get the humour more than kids, I reckon!

...circus performers into warriors. Hmm. Shrek covers selfishness and self-image/vanity, to quite a moving effect (I’m a sucker for happy endings in kid’s movies). It certainly goes a lot further than Disney efforts in every sense, which leads to including quite a few digs at the house of mouse. The role of Shrek was first going to be fleshed out by Chris Farley. He’s dead, which kinda put him out of the running. ...reason it was decided that Shrek should be Scottish, and Myers reprises a similar accent to that used for Fat B*stard in Austin Powers 2, successfully at times, but other times lapsing back into a Canadian twang! One day, “Donkey” turns up on the doorstep of the swamp where Shrek lives. The Plot
Shrek is a big, ugly green ogre, who is happily grumpy, living in his swamp with his hut and his own company. Shrek 2 is the sequel to the smash hit "Shrek," a fairy tale gone wrong about a green ogre (Shrek) who winds up getting involved in a plot to rescue the beautiful Princess Fiona from her tower on behalf of Lord Farquad. Speaking of music, the music in this movie features more prominently and is more mature and edgy, reflecting the shift in the plot. Overall, the movie is worth checking out, because I seem to be in the odd thinking it wasn't as great as the first movie, so it's probably best if you check it out yourself. ...

Advantages: Shrek has excellent animated properties as well as a great cast of characters and very strong sense of humor. Disadvantages: This film really sucks if you're in it for an original storyline. Besides which, it's technically a movie for older kids even though the humor is targeted at adults and teenagers.
...This, in turn, pisses Shrek off royally, as he does not want a bunch of squatters on his land!
Eventually Farqhart cuts Shrek a deal: Rescue Princess Fiona from the tower she is imprisoned in so that he (the ruler) can marry her and become a King instead of a lowly nobody. In some ways, Shrek still retains the elements of a traditional fairytale, with themes about love, friendship and accepting who are, a good guy who saves the day, a villain, a princess, a cute animal sidekick and a happy ending. But in Shrek, the good guy is a big green ogre with a crude sense of humour, the sidekick is a loud-mouthed donkey, the villain is four feet tall and the princess fights her own battles.

All is not well in fairytale ... ...Not happy about this, Shrek and the talking donkey he inadvertently saves, set off to take their complaint to the evil Lord Farquaad, who sends them on a quest to rescue the beautiful Princess Fiona from a tower guarded by a fire-breathing dragon to become his wife.
THOUGHTS:

Shrek a film that took almost three years to make and cost around £69 million not to mention the work of over 275 artists, computer animators and software developers and engineers - had I known this prior to its coming out on video, I perhaps would have ventured to the cinema to see it! Shrek is probably the biggest step forward in this kind of animation since the immense Toy Story and it's the closest we've got yet to the computer nerd imitating life - the bodies and movement here are truly amazing and the faces are pretty damn neat too, although they've not quite managed perfection yet. Shrek is the latest in Dreamworks' long line of computer animated films, and as with all of these animated features, the technology is coming along in leaps and bounds.
