This sort of thing can't exactly be good for you and there's definitely a danger of form being more important than substance and the anorakists applauding the tricks rather than the storyline.

Don't get me wrong, there are lots of good bits and you can find yourself smiling quite happily when things are really cooking and the closing musical ...

...happy that this has happened, Shrek demands to know what they are doing on his property, and asks what it will take to make them leave.
On finding this out (I’m not telling you as that would spoil it), he swears to ensure it will happen and they will return to their homes. ...bit of a pain for Shrek who wanted his peace and quiet. (Now I got to thinking that this could have been a major problem. What about the tooth fairy? How was she going to do her job?) The big bad wolf and the three little pigs get together and squatted in Shrek's home. He didn't like this much so he went to beard Lord Farquaad in his den and offer him a deal. Shrek would rescue Princess Fiona if Lord Farquaad let the fairyfolk out of the swamp. Shrek ... ...an attitude problem. The film moves along very fast and the 90 minutes are up too soon. We don't actually see much of Lord Farquaad but he gets to torture the gingerbread man who is then forced to walk on crutches! (Not quite as gruesome as it seems). This film is computer animated but it is very lifelike. The story provides humour on a level that the kids will understand and innuendo that parents will appreciate. The animated film itself is absolutely brilliant, from the characters to the comedy. Shrek is a computer generated animated fairy tale but it's not from Disney but rather Dreamworks who take some swipes at the House of the Mouse on the way.
It's about Shrek (voiced by Mike Myers) a very big green ogre who lives alone in the swamp and scares off anyone who dares come close. His isolation is interrupted when the evil Lord Farquaad (voiced by John Lithgow) decides to imprison every fairytale creature in the land. Pinochio, the three ... ...come off too well) and the obligatory happy ended doesn't grate too much as Shrek is a pretty easier character to like.

Shrek is all about an Ogre named "Shrek" (funny that) and his quest to get all the fairy tale creatures out of his Swamp where they've been put by the nasty Lord Farquaad. To do this he goes to Lord Farquaad's castle where he is told that in order to get his swamp back he needs to rescue a princess so the Farquaad can marry her and become King.
On his journey he is accompanied by a donkey that he inadvertently rescues from a group of Lord Farquaad's ... ...fairy tale creatures and dump them in Shrek's swamp.
The characters in this film are both funny and involving. I developed a real appreciation for Shrek's situation and the animation of his expressions was brilliant, you could really tell how he was feeling by his facial expressions. He proved to be a many layered character, like an onion ;) (if you've seen the film you'll know what I mean) and I was really happy when it came to the ending, but ...
