Shaun is a 20-something Londoner stuck in a dead-end job with irritating flatmates. His troubled relationship with Liz comes to a head after he forgets to book a table at a restaurant, and he seems doomed to spend the rest of his days drinking in the local pub with his friend Ed, who is convinced that dogs can't look up. Shaun is having a bad day. He has a crappy job, no-one likes his best friend, his mum is married to a man he detests and his girlfriend has just dumped him. And zombies have taken over North London. “Shaun of the Dead” has been described by its makers as “a romantic comedy with zombies”. I think it’s fair to say that it is more of a comedy horror with romance because the romantic comedy is incidental to the plot, rather than being its main feature. ... ...is the one in which Shaun goes to the corner shop after the zombie apocalypse, not realising that anything has changed, despite bloody handprints and shuffling members of the undead shambling about. But let’s face it, could you tell the difference between a commuter and a zombie?
The writers and director have stuck to the traditional lumbering, drooling zombies instead of the “28 Days Later” sprinting flesh-chompers. They only make an impact through ...

Shaun is an almost thirty-something with a dead end job in an electronics store. I am well aware that I am probably the last person in this country to watch Shaun of the Dead, which was originally released back in 2004. To be honest, it didn't appeal and I had absolutely no idea who Simon Pegg or Nick Frost were, having been abroad when Spaced came out. Since then, I have seen and enjoyed both ...

...around Crouch End and Barnet, Shaun of the Dead focuses on Shaun (fairly obviously), a 29 year old electrical store worker whose life is drifting away from him. Having been dumped by Liz, his girlfriend of three years, for having no ambition, he finds solace in the Winchester, his local watering hole, with best friend and flatmate Ed. ...fairly good job of avoiding SHAUN OF THE DEAD when it was released. Being a big fan of horror movies in general, and disappointed by other comedy films that've previously embarked on an agenda to mock the genre (DRACULA: DEAD AND LOVING IT, anybody?). I thought I'd give this one a miss and rewatch EVIL DEAD 3: THE MEDIEVAL DEAD to get my round of horror humour in.

So, where I was expecting a British SCREAM for zombie movies, where the rules are pre-written and the action is delivered in a pre-ordained sequence, but with enough style and celebrity cameos to make the non-horror movie crowd feel less like they're slumming it with a B-movie - what ...
