Holy Crap, The Vultures Are Eating My Head!

Advantages: Owen Wilson.
Disadvantages: Lucy Liu's just not right here.

...mark. --- Tagline. --- The classic western gets a kick in the pants! I have to mention that the sequel to this - Shanghai Knights - is even funnier than the first, and it also happens to be my next review, so keep coming back! ...

Jackie Chan Can

Advantages: Jackie, comedy, action
Disadvantages: Nope

Shangai Noon is the film Rush Hour was meant to be, a hilarious, frenetic action/comedy which sees Jackie form a believable partnership with an American comedy actor. The fight scenes and stunts are excellent as always and the physical comedy is tremendous. Even the script is decent providing laugh after laugh. The film tells the story of Princess Pei Pei played by Lucy Liu. She is frustrated at life in the Forbidden City and is duped into running ...
...an evil traitorous profiteer. Jackie plays an Imperial guard known as Chon Wang (to sound like John Wayne). He sets out for the west to rescue the princess and falls in with Roy O'Bannon (Owen Wilson) a laidback outlaw. Together they must survive the evil badguy, a scary posse hunting them, the other Imperial guards and even Roy's old gang. Jackie Chan is a world superstar and deservedly so, although his success in America has been more recent. ...

Shanghai-kicking action

Advantages: An action filled romp; frantic, funny and well-conceived.
Disadvantages: Children may copy what they see

Imperial Guard Chon Wang finds himself on a mission to the Wild West when Princess Pei-Pei is persuaded to leave the Forbidden City, to avoid an arranged marriage. Instead of finding the new life she was promised, she finds herself enslaved and it is up to Chon to release her. More of an action comedy than a martial arts epic, Jackie Chan does what he does best - entertains. His brand of of comedy kung-fu has found him fans the world over and looking ...
...film that successfully trades on the buddy movie format. Upon arrival in the States, the train carrying the ransom for the princess is ambushed by inept bandit Roy Bannon and his gang. Betrayed by his band of thieves, Bannon gets involved with Wang and after a few initial spats, they get on with the business of liberating the girl and the gold. This is arguably the best English-language film Jackie Chan has so far made. It has a sharp and funny ...

Shanghai Noon DVD

Advantages: Excellent all rounder without the excessive use of bad language etc...
Disadvantages: None.

A Western with a difference, maybe it should be called an Eastern. This well produced comical film stars Jackie Chan as an imperial guard from the Forbidden City in 1800s China. Not only is he a guard but also a servant, and what's more he is in love with the Princess Pei Pei. The story revolves around the Princess leaving China and heading off to America. She thinks that the man who helps her escape her old lifestyle is a friend, but the Emperor ...

Once in America the Princess realises what is going on when she comes face to face with an old adversary and traitor to the Forbidden City and her father The Emperor. Jackie Chan in the role of Chon Wan, ( John Wayne ) manages to get permission to go to America with a few other guards on the mission to pay the ransom and return the Princess, but things don't go as planned. ...

What happened to my horse

Advantages: Everything!
Disadvantages: none, this really is the best film ever

Shanghai Noon is one of Jackie Chan's best movies ever! I have watched it about 5 times already and still want to watch it again! The film gets of to an 'interesting' start with the director setting the story, it starts in China and you learn what the characters are (imperial guards) and of course you learn about princess pei pei. Princess pei pei wants to leave the forbidden kingdom where she lives and accepts the help of a man in the city. Thinking ...
...him. When princess pei pei arrives at her destination in the west she finds out that she has been kidnapped for a ransom! The kidnappers want gold, and lots of it! Three imperial guards are chosen to go and rescue the princess. Jackie Chan, an imperial guard, was not chosen, but forced them to let him go with them. Next you see them on a train, heading for the west... when the local group of outlaws rob the train! One of the team of outlaws shot ...

Great Comedy, Great Action, Great Movie

Advantages: Jackie talks english, good acting, amazing action and is very funny too
Disadvantages: none

This movie in my opinion is more of a comedy than a martial arts film although Jackie Chan gives the usual dose of breathtaking fights and stunts. It is one of the best action comedies that Hollywood has churned out in the last few years. The plot follows Chinese Imperial Guard Chon Wang (Jackie Chan) on his mission to find the stunning Princess Pei Pei (Lucy Lui). This film being a comedy even the names are involved in some of the gags. Chans characters ...
...is often refered to as Princess Pee Pee. On his way to her rescue her he runs into charming Roy O'Bannon (Owen Wilson) a very laid-back outlaw. They find themselves stumbling from one one fight to another while providing a lot of laughs on the way. This is one of the few films that Jackie Chan actually speaks English in. This itself provides some laughs due to the inclusion of outakes at the end of the movie where Jackie often mucks up his lines. ...

Six shooters and karate kicks

Advantages: Fast, funny action
Disadvantages: Not many though the film's not exactly groundbreaking

Shanghai Noon is a film which has all the elements you come to expect from a Jackie Chan film: action, comedy and more action. The story takes place in 1880 and takes you from the forbidden city in Imperial China to the height of America's wild west. Jackie Chan is an imperial guard given the task of returning the Emperor's daughter from the hands of kidnappers who have taken her to America. From his arrival in America to the films hilarious conclusioin ...

Shanghai Surprise!

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

...tea but do not pre-judge. Shanghai Noon is one of the Summer's brightest and funniest films. It s essentially a buddy movie and like Rush Hour- Jackie Chan does the fighting leaving the talking to Owen Wilson. Along the way there are some Indiana Jones style escapades, bullets flying, heads dodging, a horse that won't do anything it's told to do- (it even gets drunk!- eat your heart out- Mr ED!). If you want to see a funny, fast moving, suprising ...

Shanghai good!

Advantages: Funny and a great laugh!
Disadvantages: None realy!

Jackie Chan is among the legends of Kung Fu, along with Bruce Lee and Jet Li and he has done some brilliant and great films, including Rush Hour 1, 2 and 3 which are all brilliantly funny and all have one thing in common. In his films which are based in America and are quite recent, he has always had a partner, like Chris Tucker in Rush Hour so with this new film i was hoping that it wouldn't let me down. Along with Jackie in this film is another ...
...good films including I-Spy where he teams up with Eddy Murphy and also Behind Enemy Lines which i thought was amazingly good. Just like i said in the intro to Jackie as he has done some really good films and they are both good then i hoped that this wouldn't let me down. Te director Tom Dey has only done a couple of other films so it was interesting to see how he approached this film and made it. The Cast ------------- Chon Wang - Jackie Chan. ...

Advantages:

Shanghai Noon is an adventure comedy that has everything for the film buff. It is set in the late 1800 in the Wild West. A Chinese princess is persuaded to leave the Forbidden City to escape an arranged marriage is a team of the Imperial Guard is sent ot bring her back. East & West Collide in style!

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

Shanghai noon is yet another piece of comedy and action magic, starring the highly acclaimed Jackie Chan and the Up-and-coming Owen Wilson. The story follows Chan, an Imperial Guard of the Forbidden City (China, 1800’s) on the trail of the kidnapped Princess Pei Pei – who has been carted off to America. In his search he becomes unusually paired with Owen Wilson who plays a western outlaw albeit an unsuccessful one! This combination of East meets ...

Jackie Chan Strikes Again

Advantages: An entertaining action film
Disadvantages: Lacks that vital spark

I have to say that this opinion will probably be rather biased as I am a huge fan of Jackie Chan. In spite of that fact I have to admit that this film isn't his best. Don't get me wrong, it's a great film and I was glued to the screen throughout, it just doesn't have quite the same impact as the recent Jackie greats such as Rush Hour, Mr Nice Guy and the excellent Rumble in the Bronx. Although the stars of the film all gave great performances Lucy ...
...Pei Pei. The chemistry between Jackie and Owen Wilson is a pleasure to see, they work incredibly well together and are absolutely believable in their roles. As usual Jackie's lines have been kept to a minimum. He speaks very little, letting the action do the talking for him, and is obviously uncomfortable speaking English. The fight scenes, though plentiful, are unfortunately lacking in that vital something that I just can't name. They don't fully ...

SHANGHAI ASTONISHING

Advantages: ACTION PACK, FUNNY, AMAZING FIGHT SCENES , COOL BAD GUYS
Disadvantages: LUICY LUI DOES DO MUCH

I first saw a clip of this film when I was watching the us top 10, man at first glimes I was so intriged I mean therefore was Jackie chan in his fighting spirits changing the way chinese people are seen. The movie has this cool bad guy who looks bit like Richard obrian from cristal maze, but he a lot cooler a lot bolder, a lot meaner, and hell lot better that obrian at KUNG FU.... Now the film is not only about Jackie but his side kick Owen Wilson ...
...he like cool, but not all quite there, you see when you see the film. Ok there is also the great sexy lucy lui who in the film she, not bad to look at but she doesnt say much she really just there to look pretty. Well in all the film is AMAZING it brings on the best from the chinese film industry and the best from the west, combining to be a very enjoyable, action pack fun ride that will make your pants wet as a river by the time you laugh and ...

Jackie Chan At His Funniest

Advantages: Jackie Chan is splendid again, good twist on an old story.
Disadvantages: overused story line

When the Princess of the Forbidden City is kidnapped, the Royal Imperial Guard dispatches four of it’s finest to the U.S. to retrieve her. The action starts quickly and doesn’t stop, in true Jackie Chan style as he gets a few crash course lessons on how to be a cowboy. The action heats up as Chan gets further into the west and closer to the Princess. Chan finds out just exactly who and what his companion (Owen Wilson) is. The ending is a bit of ...
...If you’re a Chan fan, you’ve probably seen all his movies, as I have and know he’s got the fastest hands anywhere. And this movie is no disappointment and has the usual precarious situations you would come to expect from Chan, with him doing his own stunts, of course. Also, I’m no expert on Chinese culture but to me, the Chinese culture is portrayed admirably in this film and is a testament to China’s history and honor code. I do know that I’m ...

Full of Western Promise

Advantages: acting, action, comedy and cinematography
Disadvantages: Only one scene with allsuions to drug use

...such a wide audience. Shanghai Noon is Chan's take on the Western genre and it does not dissapoint. Six guns and Gung-Fu mix with gags and adventure in a winning formula neatly wrapped up by first time feature director Tom Dey. Like Rush Hour, the real joy of this movie is the chemistry between Chan and his co-star. This time its Owen Wilson's turn to benefit from the benevolence of Chan's movie making magic. Wilson's comic turn as Roy O'Bannon, ...
...bordello than raiding a bank, is exceptional. O'Bannon, purely due to Wilson's portrayal and chemistry with Chan, is the single most unique and appealing comic creation of the century so far. Technically speaking the movie is a triumph. Shot on a sweeping scale with panoramic visions of the beautiful Calgary region of Canada, the imagery employed is beyond the scale of any previous Chan movie. The soundtrack fits the mood of the movie beautifully ...
