Finally finding Ryan after several battles with German troops, and the loss of 2 of their soldiers whilst in battle, they find themselves torn between killing the Germans that they were trained to do or taking Ryan back to safety.

With Steven Spielberg at the directional ... ...the story is that of saving private Ryan, the film has in fact four clear sections which work brilliantly to build up the story of the actual rescue mission but also attempts to educate you on what life was like for the soldiers in the war.
The initial thread, and probably one of the most memorable scenes in cinematic history, is the initial assault on Omaha beach during the D-day landings. This scene, although not relevant to the overall story ...

Saving Private Ryan
"In the last great invasion, of the last Great War, the greatest danger for eight men…..was saving one."
This film starts with a bang, literally, on the beaches of World War 2's historic D-Day invasion, a very intense and moving scene. If you are at all squeamish this is not really a film for you as, the beginning in particular and actually much of the rest of film is brutal and bloody and features blood, guts and missing limbs, ... ...look past all the gore to experience this wonderful movie.
This 1998 film is described as a poignant and powerful homage to the soldiers of WW2. Like I said it starts on the beaches depicting the D-Day landings. If you are not familiar with the D-Day landings they are described as the first operations of the Allied Powers' invasion of Normandy, also known as Operation Neptune and Operation Overlord, during World War II. D-Day for the operation, ...

...to be part of the saving of the world from Adolf Hitler and his axis of evil. Many fall along the way, will many survive? Well we know some will, its a war film made by the yanks, they have to 'save the day' don't they?
Throughout the film we have lots of fantastic acting from Hanks and the rest of his company, as well as some haunting parts played by the German soldiers, where a sense of hatred yet compassion is built up, as you end up feeling ... ...scenery and music lends to the powerfulness of the movie, at the start you really can't see the purpose of risking the lives of 8 men, just to save Private Ryan, but by the end you can truly understand why the did it, if not for Mrs Ryan to give her one remaining son, but for a sense of humanity that perhaps something decent could come out of such a terrible situation, and even make a few lost lives to accomplish the greater goal a worthwhile exercise.

Advantages: Visceral Portrayal of heroism and war Disadvantages: Bloody, sometimes jingoistic.
Saving Private Ryan opens onto an old man walking up to a war grave. We quickly assess that it's in France, and from the age of the man, it's Second World War. He walks to a particular grave, and then falls to his knees, his family rushing behind him to his aid.
We then travel back in time, to 6th June 1944: the day of the D-Day landings. It's Omaha beach, and the amphibious troop carriers are advancing to the beach. What follows is a harrowing ... ...as an aside. However, with Saving Private Ryan, it's something to mention from the start. Steven Spielberg seems to have stumbled across a whole new way of filming war. His methods really bring to the screen the viscerality of the situation. And having watched the film repeatedly, I think that this is in no small way down to the sound recording. It's simply fantastic. Right from the start, where you can hear the furling of the flag in the wind, through ...

Saving Private Ryan, enters our screens at the American cemetery in Northern France, where an old man is walking through the cemetery to a particular grave, and falls to the ground in tears...
The film then flashes back through time to the morning of the 6th June 1944 - D-Day, the landings are underway, Omaha Beach. The American Troops fight through the beach defences to secure a beach head at terrable losses, i wont lie here, its disturbing, bloody, gory, graphic and it portrays the disaster to a full and the sheer horrors of war and loss of life. Not advised for the faint hearted among you, however it is the best war film entrance ever. which is in my opinion awful, but great film making at its best. Speilberg has done a magnificant ...

Advantages: Realistic, Moving and you feel like you're there. Focuses more on the story then other war films. Disadvantages: None that I can spot.
This is one of the best movies I have ever seen. It is a story of a small group of soldiers who are on a mission to rescue another soldier who has lost all of his brothers. It is one of the most moving films I have ever seen and I think that Steven Spielberg has truly captured the horrors of World War 2. The movie starts at Omaha Beach, the D-Day landings. And straight away you are thrown into the terrifying scene as the soldiers are fired upon by ... ...been like and makes you feel like you are one of the soldiers fighting alongside Captain Miller. Spielberg didn’t soften any of the realism, there is a lot of blood and guts as young soldiers get shredded by gunfire and explosions. Enough of the first scene, let’s talk about the film itself. It shows the bond that developed between the soldiers, when one of them dies you also feel the sadness among the characters. The attention to detail in the film ...

Advantages: Looks & Sounds great Disadvantages: A Tad Gorey
I saw this with my 3 brothers when it was released. It was the first time i've ever sat all the way through and not uttered a sound until the film was finished. That's saying something. the film was incredible in the cinema. Next watching was on DVD. the whole film all the way through with no breaks. again, the film was awesome. And today i've just seen it again on the TV.
The film does get better each time I see it. I notice more and more things, ... ...me. Hanks salutes his superior when he goes for his "find Ryan" briefing but his translator is chastised for doing the same, why? The men that don't spot the Panzerfaust leaning against the wall when their trying to stop the 25mm gun from flanking them. It's right there in plain view in the middle of the screen leaning against a wall and not one of 4 men spotted it.
This time I did see Ted Danson and that Vin Diesel. Second time in a week for the ...

Advantages: Great gun battle scenes, great characters, awsome effects. Good story. Disadvantages: Nothing wrong with the film at all! Maby could be cheaper??
...you've found that film. Saving Private Ryan is a film that starts off at the D-day landings. Tom Hanks plays a Captin, commanding a small squadron of men. After they land on the beach, they find out they must find Private Ryan. A soldier who had 3 brothers in the war, all of which died. To save his mother further sufering, Captin John H. Miller (Tom Hanks) and his squad are sent to retrieve him and pull him out of the war.
The movie begins with ... ...great! How they made it look so realistic, I do not know. It consists of men moving up the beach, loosing their arms, drowning in the water because of heavy equipment, there is even a camera angle were you see it from the German gunner's point of view. The story is just amazing.
Throughout the movie the squad gets less and less men as usually one dies at every battle. This, of course, makes it more realistic as in some war films you go the whole ...
