...that was the 1984 release ROMANCING THE STONE. To my knowledge, it is one of the first films in which my father recorded on video and, as a result, I must have seen it over 100 times while growing up. It is now one of my all-time favorite films too: a wonderful, delightful mixture of over-the-top stunts, high adventure, big laughs, edge-of-your-seat suspense and sexy romance. While the film is obviously RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK-inspired, it incredibly ...

Romance Novelist get a bit of romance herself!

Advantages: good story and acting, nice scenery, some funny bits
Disadvantages: Dated now, predictable ending

It is quite strange how we came to watch this film as we watched a music video on a TV show quite some time ago and I was socked to see Danny DeVito and Michael Douglas singing and dancing along in it only to be told by hubby that this is the film which it was from. Since then I have been looking out fir the film as hubby was shocked that I had never see it. To my surprise it was on one of the older movie channel ion sky recently so we recorded it ...
...I have said this film was on the TV so it is a FILM ONLY review. Joan Wilder is a romance novelist and she wishes that she could have some excitement n her life just like some of the characters which she writes about. Thing take a turn for her when she gets a phone call from her sister who is living in Colombia and has been kidnapped as her now dead husband found an old treasure map and the kidnappers are after it. Joan soon discovers that she was ...

Dimply Chin saves the day

Advantages: Douglas, Turner, Devito
Disadvantages: A bit shallow

...up with Dimply Chin in Romancing The Stone, and proved to have such blindingly wonderful chemistry when together on the screen that they ran to a follow up (Jewel Of The Nile) and an even better departure (War Of The Roses). The Dynamic Duo and this marvellous film were exactly right for the time, capitalising on the boring and deeply depressing days these films were made in and helping to redefine the comedy adventure genre. Stir in a large spoonful ...
...old grey matter. However, Romancing The Stone is no mere copycat, it's rip roaring fun and highly enjoyable as long as you abandon all pretensions to deep thought... There's no point looking here for any deep message or moral themes, they're just not here and you should spend your time somewhere else. If, on the other hand, you just want massive adventure where the good guys are rugged mavericks, the bad guys are obviously bloody horrible and there's ...

Superb 80s Adventure Movie

Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see review

Romancing The Stone is a movie which is usually compared unfavourably and unfairly to the Indianah Jones series. I say unfairly because in its own right this movie is enormous fun and a joy to watch, whilst it doesn't quite meet the standards of the Indie films and therefore comes in for quite some criticism. Personally I would prefer to take the movie on its own merits rather than comparing it to a work of brilliance and then pulling it to pieces ...
...own merits it is a superb movie in its own rights, a wonderful adventure story which comes right out of a piece of pulp romance fiction writing which is exactly what one of the main characters of the movie is. That character is Joan Wilder(Kathleen Turner). She has been ordered by kidnappers to bring a treasure map she has mysteriously received to Columbia in order that her kidnapped sister be released. On the way though she ends up on the wrong ...

Good movie with lots of adventure.

Advantages: Adventures and humour.
Disadvantages: Bit predictable.

A romantic adventure writer, called Joan Wilder (Kathleen Turner), recieves a package and soon she finds herself on the way to Columbia to save her sister from kidnappers. Her sister is threatened to be killed if Joan doesn't deliver the package to them. She gets lost on the way though and ends up in the jungle. Desperate, she pays a guy called Jack (Michael Douglas) to be her guide. They get shot at and flee into the jungle and there their adventures ...
...fuss is about and find it's a map. All the while they have Danny De Vito's character on their heels trying to get the map from them. In this movie there is love, deception, humour and adventure. It's a good movie. Kathleen and Michael also did two more movies together which were also good. If you liked this one try these: Jewel of the Nile and War of the Roses. ...
