Thirty years after Sylvester Stallone first introduced the underdog backroom brawler from Philadelphia in the Oscar-winning ROCKY, Rocky Balboa returns for one last dance....
more...Speculation as to whether Balboa, in his prime, would have been able to defeat lacklustre champ Mason ‘The Line’ Dixon spurs Dixon’s management to set up an exhibition fight between the two. That Balboa is in his 50s and wouldn’t be sanctioned to fight anyone, let alone a man 30 years his junior and in the prime of life, must be left up to the viewer’s ability to suspend disbelief. To its credit, however, the movie addresses at every turn the insanity of a man approaching 60 getting back into a boxing ring, and Balboa’s impassioned explanation of his motivations is just believable enough to give all other improbabilities a free pass. The film is very much a love letter to Philadelphia, and Stallone, who wrote and directed the movie, shoots everything with an unflinching eye that humanises the mean streets of the City of Brotherly Love and evokes the gritty dignity of the original film. While Burt Young’s cantankerous Paulie and Tony Burton’s Duke both return, Talia Shire, sadly, does not reprise her role as the beloved Adrian. It’s revealed early in the film that Adrian has died of cancer, and it’s the pain of that tragedy that ultimately fuels Rocky. Boxing as a metaphor for life is certainly nothing new, but Stallone makes a legitimate contribution to the tradition with ROCKY BALBOA. Life hits harder than any man can, and one’s ability to keep getting up until the final bell rings is the true measure of self.

Advantages: A superb end to the Rocky Films
Disadvantages: It's another Rocky film, and quite predictable in places

...have seen the other five Rocky films, and by the fifth was pleased that the story had ended. When it came out that this film was to be released, I have to admit that I was very wary of the same old storyline being re-told. You can buy this on Amazon, Ebay, Play.com and other online stores as well as in the shops. I saw this today on Amazon for the princely sum of £5 and as always my advice is to shop around before making your purchase, as you ... Read review

Rocky The Sixth
Review of Rocky Balboa DVD by Davidhutt

Advantages: A great film, fantastic ending to the films, good special features
Disadvantages: Possibly one too many.

Rocky Balboa Rocky Balboa is the sixth and last film of the classic Rocky series. It brings closure to the saga and displays the themes of the whole series. Sylvester Stalloneis back as a old man wanting one more chance because there’s “something in the basement”. His life has gone crumbled around him and we watch how he is able to rebuild it whilst making new friends. It’s a typical Rocky film of a man’s defiance against the world. **Characters** Rocky ... The Best Rocky by far
Review of Rocky Balboa DVD by sewbizzie

Advantages: Good story line
Disadvantages: Sly's bad accent and slurred words!

Rocky Balboa is the final film in the Rocky series and personally I feel it is the best out of them all. I found that there is much more of a story to this film and enjoyed it much more than the others. The film stars Sylvester Stallone again playing the part of Rocky Balboa who is now retired from his boxing and is happily running his own restaurant, called Adrienne's, after his wife. I found is sad when we learned at the beginning that Adrienne ... Read review

Rocky's last fight is a great one
Review of Rocky Balboa DVD by mummy2harry

Advantages: Great acting, drama, well produced
Disadvantages: May not suit some fans of the older movies

...a fan of the other Rocky films for many years, but I wasn't so sure that this movie was going to live up to the legacy that are the Rocky movies. I thought that Sylvester Stallone would be too old to play Rocky in a way which would do his old movies justice, but I was pleasantly surprised by this film! The film starts with a trip down memory lane for the star of the film Rocky. He now owns a successful restaurant and we learn of the death of his ... Read review

Be a thinker not a stinker. (Apollo Creed)
Review of Rocky Balboa DVD by Osaitfc

Advantages: Escapism
Disadvantages: Perhaps only rocky fans will get the cheese.

...But for some reason the Rocky saga sparked endless banter and cheesy quotes while partaking in beer, bitter and wine. There's something about these films which capture the imagination and stir the adrenaline in your body while watching the fighting set pieces and training montages. Ok Rocky 5 was a disaster (other than the street fight) but the other four films offer there own twists to the Rocky hall of fame. So why make a 6th, i believe it's ... Read review

Another Rocky?
Review of Rocky Balboa DVD by KPN7

Advantages: It A Rocky
Disadvantages: More or less everything

...what youre thinking. Another great Rocky film to add to my collection. The horrible truth however is that it is not any where near the quality which we have come to expect from the Rock series. I myself am a firm lover of the Rocky series. I could honestly watch them time and time and time again. However it is a worthy effort however the quality of everthing in the film unfortunately fall well behind the bar. We all know though what to expect from ... Read review

The final installment
Review of Rocky Balboa DVD by aliion

Advantages: A great film for the whole family
Disadvantages: Cannot live up to the legacy of the earlier films

Rocky Balboa is the final installment in the Rocky anthology. It was directed by Sylvester Stalllone, the feature character, sixteen years after Rocky V. Rocky V leaves the story with Rocky returning to life in Philadelphia as a poor retired boxer training amateurs in the gym he began his boxing career in- Mickey's Gym. Rocky V also witnesses a change in roles for the Itallian Stallion as he becomes the trainer to a rising star in the world of ... Read review

"Sigh of the tiger"
Review of Rocky Balboa DVD by nice_guy_freddy

Advantages: Its Rocky! , Nice ideas.
Disadvantages: Too old, too overdone, and just one too many Rocky films.

...previously seen intensity (throughout other rocky films) when it came to the actual fight scenes. Stallone simply no longer has the look of a heavyweight boxer by any standards, and looked almost rediculous to be in a ring against such a well toned and physically strong looking counterpart for any amount of time at all, never mind the full 15 rounds he 'supposedly' went. Overall a moderately enjoyable film however too much has been seemingly just ... Read review

Rocky Balboa--The most boring film of all.
Review of Rocky Balboa DVD by x_xmegganx_x

Advantages: Romance as well as a little fighting.
Disadvantages: Not clear, quite boring and would have been better if Adrian was alive.

After seeing every Rocky film and loving them, I went to the pictures to see the final film 'Rocky Balboa' with my mum as she thinks he's the sexiest man on the planet! We went with her boyfriend but he wasn't too pleased with the film as the first 5 were mostly fighting related. but with this film, it was mostly romantic. I must admite we were all devestated when it was revealed that Adrian was dead! The film was partly a let-down but some parts ... Read review

The lastest rocky film Rocky Balboa is amazing one of the best so far i have watched all of the rocky films and this one really done it for me this latest sylvester stallone film should win a BAFTA. sylvester stallone is getting on a bit now but in this film he is still looking as young and fit as ever i wasnt expecting this rocky film to be as good as the rest as you wouldnt think there was much else you could do for a new rocky film but think again ... It's a knock-out
Review of Rocky Balboa DVD by Xanshin

Advantages: Great acting, a truly fitting end to the series
Disadvantages: Feels very different to the old movies

Sylvester Stallone stated that Rocky Balboa is his personal favourite of all the Rocky films. I personally disagree, preferring both the first and second movie, but it is definately a superb movie. Sylvester Stallone, Burt Young, and Tony Burton return to the series for the final installment in which Rocky comes out of retirement to fight an exhibition fight against the current world champion, Mason Dixon (played by real-life boxer Antonio Tarver) ... Another great rocky movie
Review of Rocky Balboa DVD by Paul1980

Advantages: It's rocky again, great ending to the rocky movies.
Disadvantages: The last of rocky.

...final installment of the bunch rocky is plagued by his own demons. There was a surprise in the movie i didn't expect but was crafted well. Rocky's son now grown up also makes another appearence and the fact that a real boxing champion is in the movie to challenge the italian stallion is also another reason to watch this. The acting in the movie is very good to my experience. I wont tell you the plot as it will ruin it for those who aint seen it. All ... Read review

ROCKY
Review of Rocky Balboa DVD by KIWIMULLAN03

Advantages: GOOD FILM
Disadvantages: NONE

I have seen all the Rocky films and to be honest I was a little bit surprised thought it was going to be poor, it was more about Rocky’s life and his wife Adrian, who in this one is unfortunately dead. He is ask to do a fight but as a competition and looses the fight. He meets a lady who he has known from his previous films and starts seeing her. His son in the film is resenting him for what he is doing because, they see his son and automatically ... Read review
