My friends call me Murphy. You call me RoboCop

Advantages: Some half decent action, slightly sympathetic story
Disadvantages: Story written poorly

RoboCop 3 is the second sequel in the RoboCop franchise. It seems that over the years the RoboCop films went from retro classic to abismal cash cow. The film is still set in good old Detroit where the massive, capitalist corporation OCP (Omni Consumer Products) owns Detroit and is planning to destroy the old lawless neighbourhoods to make way for the 'New Detroit'. (This premise is in all three movies, this moive is based on them actually doing ...
...will profit from OCP's dealings, RoboCop and the brave residents take on OCP's recruited private army, it is all out war... This film has put the franchise downhill. Despite there being no Peter Weller or Paul Verhoeven, the film has a lack of violence in an attempt to gain a new, younger audience. The original (and far superior, see review) movie was infmaous for its graphic violence and dipiction of a realistic future. The second one surpported ...

...some more money. In steps Robocop to help, and it all ends happily ever after. Thats it. That is the plot, our friendly law enforcement guy turns squatter basically and fights for the common man against the law...dumb. Of course, realising that the plot sucked, our team of morons who wrote this trash decided that robocop should also have some extra features. He has a rocket pack which allows him to fly and a hand which can be removed and replaced ...
...Paul Verhoeven's original Robocop was a smart, tongue-in-cheek action movie with some great action scenes and it developed a ood following because of this. The second movie pretty much stank, but it was at least watchable, and did have some good parts. Robocop 3...is surely meant for kids and surely is one huge attempt to milk the licence for all it is worth. The TV series spinoff was like this movie, perhaps then it is a feature length version of ...

None of the grit of the first film

Advantages: It'll pass two hours
Disadvantages: It'll be two hours not spent doing something more worthwhile

The original Robocop was a gritty satire. The third Robocop has none of the character of the first film. The plot (OCP ruthlesly tries to evict people so they can turn Detroit into a gleaming example of a coporate city) is trite. Instead of the beaten and weathered look of Robocop in the first film, he's now got the shiny and buffed-up chrome look. The action tends to be of the cartoon kind ("is it a bird, is it a plane? No, it's a flying Robocop!!"). ...

RoboCrap 3

Advantages: Ther is Robocop in it.
Disadvantages: Low budget, bad script, mediocre supporting cast.

ROBOCOP 3 is not a tough movie to review. You can take the easy way out and just say, "It sucked," or in hubcap boy's case, "It's gay.". The original had heart, the sequel was made for kids, but still, it was violent.. This one? Oh man. Robert John Burke is likable and fun to cheer for as Murphy, but the absence of Peter Weller is evident. Frank Miller's script is much more focused than the original -- there's a good guy and a bad guy. But then again, ...
...to come to Murphy's aid). RoboCop is no less likable, but in this film, he's just a wisecracking action hero, and not the tragic figure of the first movie. Nancy Allen does not fare well in this movie. Her character is used as a tool for motivation; making Murphy want revenge for her death, and that seems shallow. She barely does anything in the film before she expires, surprisingly early on. The film seems rather clear cut and squeaky clean, probably ...

You know there's somethng wrong when ...

Advantages: Learn the story, without playing a computer game
Disadvantages: Realise the story is poor and wish you'd not seen it

... you've been playing the computer game of the film for many years before the film is released, the lead actor is replaced, the certificate is dropped from 18 to 15, ... After enjoying the first two installments (underage, oops!), I was really looking forward to this one. But, by the time it was released, I already knew the plot from the computer game and wasn't very impressed. I've since seen it once more on TV (I must have been desperate!), ...
...acting is nothing special, the effects are average for today and all of the submersive, dark and satirical elements introduced by Mr. Showgirls (Paul Verhoeven) in his classic dystopian vision have been discarded onto the scrap pile and replaced something that fails on all levels. They should have left it at two, and concentrated on the TV series (which was aimed at a different audience). RoboCop? More like RoboCra*. ...
