Solid historical action movie, but with flaws.

Advantages: Alan Rickman steals the show!
Disadvantages: Alan Rickman steals the show!

...main character is the legendary Robin Hood, you're NOT supposed to be rooting for the bad guy. And that's a big problem of Robin Hood Prince of Thieves: actor Kevin Costner doesn't manage to bring out Robin Hood's swashbuckling dazzle. He comes across as a goodhearted, falliable, normal man, and ends up being a satisfactory, but thoroughly unmemorable character. Alan Rickman, on the other hand, turns on the charm as he swaggers and sneers and prances ...
...during the swordfighting showdown between Robin Hood and him, Robin plows on as the Sheriff hops around him like an evil fairy. When the Sheriff dies -- and I'm not ruining the movie for you because in formulaic movies like this one the villain always dies -- you want to boo, because now the fun is over. If Kevin Costner had possessed as much magnetism and charm as Rickman, this movie would have been MUCH less stilted in the acting department, and ...

Robin Hood mixes comedy, romance and action

Advantages: Great stuff
Disadvantages: A few errors, but nothing major

Robin Hood Prince of Thieves is the 1991 take on the legend of Robin Hood, stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. This film was hailed as one of the biggest films of the 1990s, especially by women (!) and features an all star cast and a soundtrack including Bryan Adams' 'Everything I do' which spent about a million weeks at number 1 in the charts. Director Kevin Reynolds gives us a rollicking feature length display of sword fighting, comedy, ...
...a damn good film. Robin of Locksley (Kevin Costner) has been away fighting in the Crusades. Escaping with a Moor named Azeem (Morgan Freeman) he heads back to his native England after many years to see his father and live out the rest of his life in peace. Not so much luck! In the King's absence, his evil brother John has taken the throne and rules with a selfish and hard code, and the Sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Rickman) seems to be calling the ...

...of mouth and become legend. Robin Hood is one such story, now whether there really was a real Robin Hood is besides the point the morals of the story are solid. Good against Evil has and probably always will be the core of a really good adventure movie. Although as I said the moral of the Robin hood story are pretty solid there is of course the fact that he was comitting crimes albeit for the good, so there may be a bit of a dilema there. In this ...
...best movies of all time, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves is still after all a very good family film. Robin returns from abroad with a Moorish gentleman Azeem ( Morgan Freeman )in tow. He owes Robin a favour for Robin having saved him so he hangs about the rest of the film helping out until his big moment comes. Robin arrives to an England in turmoil with the absence of King Richard. Richard's brother Prince John plans to take the throne in Richards ...

...plays the lead role of Robin of Locksley, an escaped prisoner from a foreign land with fellow escaped prisoner Azeem (Morgan Freeman). They both travel back to England to find that the Sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Rickman) is running an autcratic rule, and also plans to marry Marion (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) whom Robin eventually falls in love with himself and will stop at nothing to get his girl. ...burned to the ground and Robin Hood slain. The result is tht many villagers are captured and taken to Nottingham Castle dungeon. This leads to the final assault on the Castle, to rescue the captors as well as Marion from the evil clutches of the Sheriff. The direction of this film is competent and Kevin Reynolds does a good job in portraying a much-loved classic tale, and does so with violence that is never gory or displeasing and humour which is ...

Advantages: Plenty of action, Solid performance
Disadvantages: The mid atlantic twang grates a bit

...the story of the legendary Robin Hood but with a few novel twists. THere are some good supporting performances from Morgan Freeman, Christian Slater, Alan Rickman and MAry Mastrantonio is a highly desireable Maid Marion. The perfomances are sound enough to forgive that Mid-Atlantic twang (which does grate occasionally)and the pace and action come thick and fast. The forest fight scene is dramatic and convincing and of course the finale is great especially ...

History coming to life!

Advantages: Great acting and story
Disadvantages: Some inaccuracies

...Peter. Peter dies but makes Robin promise to get a ring to his sister in England. Meanwhile in England, Lord Locksley (played by Brian Blessed) is seen being tricked out of his castle to be confronted by a group of men who kill him watched by the Sheriff of Nottingham (played by Alan Rickman) 4 months later, Robin returns to find his father, Lord Locksley, is dead. He promises revenge. What follows is a scheme to take all of the sheriffs riches ...
...sheriff is on his tail, Robin escapes, so the sheriff tries to take the one thing that Robin would die for, Marion. A great historical film although there are a few inaccuracies. A scene shows a manhole cover (obviously not made in 11th century!) And some of the degrading names shouted out are modern and would not have been used in a derogatory sense in this time. The acting is really good but all praise must go to Alan Rickman as the sheriff. ...

Good action romance

Advantages: Good Cast (Kevin Costner, Christian Slater, Morgan Freeman, Sean Connery)
Disadvantages: Not too hot on the historical accuracy!

...good version of the classic Robin Hood tale. Kevin Costner plays Robin of Sherwood. He returns home after fighting in the Crusades to find his homeland is not as he left it. The wicked Sheriff of Nottingham (a very hammy but funny Alan Rickman) has got the locals terrified and those that don't like what he is doing have taken refuge in the woods of Sherwood Forest. Robin eventually gets these 'merry men' of the forest to trust him and take up arms ...
...prisoner from the Crusades who Robin Hood frees and who then repays the debt by becoming his loyal follower (with a dry wit in tow!) The finale which sees Robin and the Merry Men storming the Sheriffs castle is very exciting and edge of the seat stuff, and it all ties up nicely with the goodies winning out, the guy getting the girl and the baddies getting their comeuppance in various ways! Of course most people remember it for being the film which ...

Action/Romance classic

Advantages: Great cast
Disadvantages: can not fault

Robin Hood The Prince Of Thieves - PG The exceptional cast consists of: Kevin Costner (Robin of Loxley), Alan Rickman (Sheriff of Nottingham), Christian Slater (Robin Hoods brother), Morgan Freeman, Sean Connery (King Richard-only a brief appearance towards the end though), Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (Maid Marion). I thoroughly enjoyed this film when I watched it first, and still love it when I watch it now. I must have seen the film at least ...
...The film starts with Robin Hood’s father writing a letter to his dear son ‘Robin Hood’. The sheriff of Nottingham then attacks him; the sheriff’s guards overwhelm him and kill him. Then goes on to Robin in a dungeon; you gather that he has been captured fighting in the crusades. He succeeds in an escape attempt freeing him from the dungeon and two other people. One of the people being his old best friend, and is the person who is in love with Marion. ...

Cheesy but still a classic!

Advantages: fantastic action scenes, Alan Rickman is outstanding as the Sheriff of Nottingham
Disadvantages: the historical detail is a bit far-fetched

This has and always will remain one of my favourite films, it stills makes me cry everytime I watch it and hear Bryan Adams at the end! If you like your films to be historical accuarate then this is not for you! There is no attempt at an English Accent by Kevin Costner and Christian Slater is just far too good-looking to play Will Scarlett. Alan Rickman performance as the villianous Sheriff of Nottingham is exellent and he brings so Bristish glamour ...
