Ringu (1998)

Although I had not seen the origanal 2, I was unsaw and took me a while to watch it despite hearing all the comments. A film I wished I watched earlier. Its full of suspense, thrill, twists and turns, a seven day race against time to find the truth about a Video tape. Reiko Asakawa, is a reporter, afater hearing about the tape decided to write a story, which she was told that if you watch it, immediatly the phone rings and u die after 7 days. After ...
...realises theres more to this also more deaths, when she went to a cabin with some other friends, after visiting the cabin and finds the videotape they watched (noting how conincidently the tape landed on the self and how she new what she was looking for). Anyway she watches the tape and decided to find the truth after noticing some similarities to what was on tape things that happen during the seven days, to discover the truth you follow the tape. ...

Ringu is adapted from the critically acclaimed author Koji Suzuki, he has written books such as dark water and Death and the flower. I have read the book and watched the film and both are great! the book will allow you to imagine the scenarios your self and goes into more details on certain parts of the story but the film will frighten you and make those hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. Once you get over the initial cheesiness of the thought of a "cursed videotape", you will really enjoy this movie. Altogether different from the horror films that we have gotten used to, Ring is a refreshing change. It is a very good example of what a horror film should be. The atmosphere is dark and heavy. The Japanese dialogue and the unfamiliar faces of the actors went to the advantage of the movie, adding more mystery despite the modern setting ...

I first watched this with my sister and we was so scared by the last half of the film we could not even look at the television to see what the freeky womans face looked like. The story is a bit far fetched i can't say to much or it will ruin the film for you,simply put it's about a video tape(freeky woman climbing out of a well then walking very strangly through the tv screen onto the floor)that if you watch it you die within days. Not your usual ...
...trying to save everyone but managing a bit of romance along the way so nothing different there. I thoroughly enjoyed being scared half to death and if you like films that keep you in suspense wanting to see the monsters face and yet so scared to look at the same time then this ones for you. ...

Ring is one of those rare movies that seems to get right under your skin. The film has a fantastic brooding atmosphere of pervading evil that slowly creeps up on you throughout the film.It has some fabulously bizarre sequences which are already becoming firm favourites with horror fans. Ring is an oustanding achievement in the horror genre and should be what American producers should be aiming for in the future. This film does not rely on special effects, cheap scares or blood and gore. Rather the 'killer' is mute, faceless and inexplicably ghastly to the viewer.
