A Revelation

Advantages: Excellent acting
Disadvantages: Might bore some people

...move to a new road, Revolutionary Road. They are young with dreams. They want to do well for themselves and their two kids, and live life uncompromisingly. Set in the 1950s their dream transpires to immigrate to Paris, which at the time, was something of a mission, especially with two young children. The film examines how we can become our own obstacles and fall pray to negative opinions of others, jeopardising our own aspirations. Should people ...
...couple to their home in Revolutionary Road, lending another dose of stella performance. I can understand why some people might find this film boring and right (or is it write?) it off because not a lot happens. To be fair, they may have a point, but for me, the beauty of the film is in its simplicity and observation of the human psyche. I quite like that not a lot happens. Although, to say that is probably unfair also. The plot is interestingly dealt ...

Di Caprio and Winslett give career best

Advantages: acting
Disadvantages: storyline a bit too dull for some

...Slumdog Millionaire, The Reader, and Revolutionary Road. However, whilst the greatest strength of the first two is the plot or storyline, the power behind Revolutionary Road comes in the tour de force of acting given by all involved. THE PLOT: The story itself is fairly low key: Frank and April (Leo Di Caprio and Kate Winslett) are a normal couple in 1950s America. On the surface they are liked and respected, but go a little deeper and they're both ...
...move to Paris to follow the life they always wanted, but April's new pregnancy soon puts stop to that, and the couple spiral down into brokenness. WAS IT ANY GOOD: Although perhaps an average story, it is the acting that powers this film. Di Caprio and Winslett are just amazing in giving performances that are instantly authentic and believable. Perhaps their Titanic chemistry set them in good stead, but they are just completely awe inspiring in ...

Deeply moving, unforgettable film

Advantages: Beautifully honed performances, thoroughly involving story
Disadvantages: Heavy, depressing subject matter

A seriously involving and at times difficult watch, this is an amazing achievement in film. Showing once again that Sam Mendes has an uncanny insight into what makes people tick. The performances, especially from Winslet are stellar (as a side note, I don't see how this performance wasn't rewarded instead of The Reader, as I think this to be equal or better, but I guess that film involves the Holocaust so....), and the set design is gorgeous in a ...
...it's prime female star as it was a baptism of brutal fire for them both, given that it's the first time Mendes has directed his wife in a film and this was by no means an easy first film to see how that goes! I can't recommend this film enough, as I know some people could possibly be put off by the heavy subject matter. But please give it a go, as I think you will find it rewarding in many ways, if uncomfortable at times. ...
