The Storyline
Remember The Titans is based in Alexandria in 1971, where American Football is more important to the way of life than family morals. On top of that the town is split by racial segregation which was still common place at the start of the 70's. When the town is forced into integrating the all white school with the all black school, racial emotions erupt which unsettles the town right down to the core.
With the integration comes the ... ...coach, Herman Boone (Denzel Washington), along with having to rock the tradition of having a mixed race football team. This causes the white population to rebel against the situation, as there beloved coach, Bill Yoast (Will Patton), was relegated to assistant coach along with the threat that some of there children would be dropped from the team to allow for the new black players. In contrast the black population were excited that a black coach had ...

...story from the early 70's, Remember The Titans is all about racial intergration within a small town and the emotional rollercoaster that followed. With a number of subplots and high emotions this film works on a number of levels. The black high school and the white one are forced to merge and ... ...such a masterpiece.
Overall Remember The Titans is an extremely uplifting and positive film aimed at people of all ages. There is no profanity in the film and the only violence in the film is from pushing and shoving and the roughness from the actual game scenes. Even if you have no clue about American Football you will most probably still like this film because it focuses more of the story behind the team. With another supreb performance from Denzel ...

...1971.
I do well remember the year 1971, as it is the year that my parents separated. It was a time when America was struggling with desegregation. Neither side was happy; it seemed that many were wondering if the right choice had been made to integrate schools and neighborhoods. This particular social problem is paramount to the storyline of this remarkable movie and is very realistically portrayed. “Remember the Titans” got off to an engaging start ... ...sat in front of the television, mesmerized, feeling as though I was traveling back in time.

Advantages: good acting, story, soundtrack Disadvantages: can get sentimental
I saw this film while in New York. The film stars Denzel Washington as an american football coach called Herman Boone. He comes to a part of america in the late 50's/early 60's where any other colour other than white is frowned upon. He takes up a job as head coach to the school pushing out longtime football coach Bill Yoast (Will Patton). Naturally at first there is some tension in the community with Boone not getting much support. He brings blacks ... ...Naturally there is more tension. HOwever he takes all the players on a training camp where naturally he teahces them all to get along. This in turn makes the team play better and actually brings the blacks and whites together in the community eventually. Now on reading the above you'd probably think that the film sounds a bit sentimental and isn't anything new. You'd be right but the film is handled in such a way that it becomes gripping, emotional, ...

Advantages: Denzel Washington. Jerry Bruckheimer. Believable Characters. Realism (Adaptations of real situations always get me!) Disadvantages: A bit too long, but well worth it.
It's an adaptation of a true story. The year is 1971, and in Virginia, TC Williams High School has just become the first mixed race school in the district. The first group to experience the racial tension is the football team, whose existing coach has been forced to move aside to let a new, black coach, Coach Boone takeover.

Don’t let yourself be put off by the football aspect, and you’ll find a warm tale about the struggle for independence, recognition and social acceptance in a Disney story that is must-see film of 2001.

What’s great about this film is its strategically placed comedy throughout the film, keeping the interest of viewers who may find the football storyline tedious. Remember The Titans is a touching story of High School Football (that's American football) and the problems and strife between integration of black and white schools.
