Advantages: Some of the usual humour and a fine start to the show Disadvantages: a far cry from the usual stuff, lacking in plots, could be switched off easily
...6 of the sci-fi comedy Red Dwarf finished Rob Grant decided to give this series a miss, leaving Doug Naylor to take the helm, although he chose to ask for some support from others to finish the series. But regardless of the loss of Grant, some of the episodes are just as good as ever, especially as Ed Bye returned to direct the show.
Not only had Grant dropped out but Chris Barrie also took the rather strange choice to drop into the background of ... ...been mentioned several times during Red Dwarf’s lifetime. (Chloe Annett as Kockanski). There were some other differences in this series, such as the removal of the studio audience and a more movie like camerawork, leading to a rather different finished product indeed.

--SERIES 7 IN GENERAL--
It was wondered for a while after Series 6 finished, if there was to be a series 7, how they would explain that they came back to life after being blown up at the end of 6. To be fair, ... ...Rimmer. Since the beginning of Red Dwarf, he has been an ever present entity, making everyone elses life a misery with his sarcastic, humourless, cowardly, brown-nosing ways. But those characteristics are what make the fans of Red Dwarf love him so much. Although he featured strongly in episodes 1 and 2 of series 7, we only see him as a cameo in Blue for the rest of the whole series. We missed his space corps directives and belittling comments to ...

Advantages: Fun to watch, some good stories Disadvantages: Not as good as it could've been
Red Dwarf - Series 7 is the penultimate season of Red Dwarf, the cult sci-fi sitcom with millions of followers around the globe.
A lot of things changed from season 6, Co-creator Rob Grant left to pursue other projects and left Doug Naylor to continue with the series. Naylor brought in new writers because of the extended episodes (up two episodes to eight overall), and, probably the biggest change of all, Chris Barrie decided to only take part in ... ...norm for the crew of Red Dwarf. Nonetheless, I still think this is a relatively poor season.
The acting is still good, and the actors always have great chemistry together, I just don't think that the plots and the writing aren't as good as, say, the previous season. This happens sometimes though, the quality can fluctuate between series, some can be great, others not so great, just ask the writers of "The Simpsons". There are some good ones though, ...

Advantages: Very funny and original Disadvantages: None
Red Dwarf VII is the latest in the series to come out on DVD. It's on three discs and runs for almost four hours. Chris Barrie stars as Rimmer/Ace, Craig Charles as Lister, Danny John-Jules as Kat, Robert Llewellyn as Kryton, and Chloe Annett as Kochanski
The packaging is plain and simple - purple cover with the logo on the front and some of the cast. What I did like though is the spine of the box has part of a picture on it, so when you put the ... ...end of an era within Red Dwarf.
Identity Within - This was the "lost episode", which was dropped from the series. It was never actually made so it is just a narrated storyboard.
In the episode Kat is ill and the only way to cure him is to find another member of the Kat people race to mate with him.
Disc one also includes commentary by the cast
Disc two Duct Soup - has the original version plus extended.
This episode revolves around a power cut ...

Advantages: More Discs Means More Special Features! Disadvantages: A Pivitol Character Left
This series in Red Dwarf history was a highly anticipated one due to the fact that there was a 4 year gap since the last series. This was due to the fact that the crew and Robert Llywellyn went to America to do an American version of Red Dwarf. However it wasn't successful due to many reasons. One of them was that the American actors couldn't portray the characters in the same level the British ones did. So after that horrendous ordeal, the crew ... ...the world and is in Red Dwarf. This was due to the fact that he had smuggled his pet cat, Frankinstein, on board Red Dwarf and this was not acceptable due to health and safety. Lister had a choice, have his cat killed, or to be in stasus for 6 months (which is basically suspended animation which freezes him). After 3 million years he was released. The reason for the delay was that there was a accident in the Red Dwarf ship, the drive place wasn't ...

Advantages: Fantastic series in retrospect, facinating extras Disadvantages: discs stored in a clumsy way
Ok dwarfers. We all moaned when series seven first aired. Where's the studio audience? Where's RIMMER! But return to this gem and you will be suprised at how well it has aged. Nearly a decade old, this feels as fresh as ever in terms of performance and characterisation: the SFX are still a little ropey but i will allow that!
The departure of Rob Grant allowed Grant Naylor to bring in other writers, such as Paul Alexander and even our very own kryten, ... ...the stories and give the whole series a more 'Comedy Drama' feel.
Another plus is the return of Ed Bye as director. He fully understands the 'Red Dwarf' universe and coaxes wonderful performances fro the ensemble, in particular Craig Charles and Danny John-Jules, who in past series had become a little jaded. Another plus to owning this set is the range of extras. Yes we have all seen the Smeg ups, but the 'Lost' episode (no it's not set on an island, ...

Advantages: Still funny even if it's not the best series Disadvantages: Too Hollywood style
...Dwarfers, the weakest series of Red Dwarf. Having said that, it is still fnny. The thing that made it the weakest series for me is the fact that Chris Barrie left part way through. The cast were well established in the roles and any one of them leaving would have had the same effect.
She clearly tries hard but, to me, Chloe Annette still seems to be a little uncomfortable as Kochanski.
They also changed the way the series was filmed and started ... ...British comedy and also decided to film and show the episodes to the live audience after filming rather than recording them in front of a live audience, which I think was a mistake.
There are still some funny lines and some funny scrapes, but it's just not as good as the other series.
Yet again, the smeg ups and documentaries included are great. ...
