...vampires for information and the Queen of the Damned the mother of all vampires rises to meet Lestat. You get the idea. How many times did I type Lestat? 9. The answer is 9 times I'll refrain from being too critical of this film as after watching it I can quite clearly see that this was for a very specific target audience and not a film that was expected to be enjoyed generally. It's for your girls in their teens early 20s who think vampires are ... ...be the lack of the Queen of the Damned. The woman is hardly in the film. She isn't really all that vital to the story either which mainly centres around Lestat's music career and other vampires getting pissed off at him. I didn't like her when she did arrive; moving about like a freak all the time and being all of a sudden really powerful and then when the proverbial hits the fan she doesn't seem to take advantage of that power. So maybe I should ...

Queen of the Damned the movie, supposedly based on two of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles books. These are Queen of the Damned and the Vampire Lestat. Well before I get started on this review I just want to say this movie's like marmite you either love it or you hate it. Being one of my favourite movies you can guess which side i'm on. Anyway if you love rock music then you'll probably love this movie, if you're a fan of Anne Rice and of movies with ... ...and foes of enormous power. Queen Akasha herself rises from her statue like sleep in search of Lestat, but does she seek to kill our young hero or aid him in taking back the night? The Talamasca, a group that investigate paranormal activity pick up on Lestat's song and it's authenticity. A young member, Jessie tries to track Lestat down herself, though for what means? They are her own and it would spoil the slightly hard to follow plot if I told ...

Then you go to the shop, ... ...books (The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned), but multiple voiceovers only work in noir thrillers. Here it’s just snoozey-town. “I wanted to know more about myself so I walked down the road. ...to be let down horribly. Queen of the Damned is an awful movie, made even more awful by the fact that firstly, it ought to be so much better considering its source material, secondly it doesn't even look as if any attempt was made to make it any better when they knew they could play on the source material and thirdly, most importantly in my eyes, it feels very much like Anne Rice has tried very hard to spin a line of bull to her fans in order to ... ...would hope not. Queen of the Damned opens with a monolgue from Lestat, detailing how he tired of walking the Earth alone and decided to sleep instead, until he is awaked by a world which is changed - a world where new gods are worshipped - rock musicians(!). He rises from the grave(talk about music loud enough to wake the dead) and forms his own band. He is tired of walking in shadows, hiding his existence and so instead openly proclaims his vampirism, ...

...of The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned; but they got so many things wrong and a lot of Anne Rice fans were very angry about that. First mistake: Lestat had dark hair. I nearly died when I saw that. How could they let Lestat have dark hair??? ...wasn’t too bothered about watching Queen of the Damned, I knew it was a sequel of sorts to Interview with a Vampire. However none of the cast members from that movie had returned. Advantages: What advantages Disadvantages: There are too many to mention
When I heard that they were going to be making a sequel to Interview with the Vampire, I was really happy, I thought that this would look really good at the cinema. Then I found out that they were skipping the 2nd Installment ‘The Vampire Lestat’ and going straight to ‘Queen of the Damned’ and all I could think of was why????
Why oh why have the film makers tried to cram 2 books into 1 film, surely it’s a recepie for disaster. I was right, the screenplay ... ...thing about this film is the soundtrack (If you’re not into rock music, don’t bother with it).
I’ve read all the Vampire Chronicle books, and my favourite books were ‘The Vampire Lestat’ and ‘Queen of the Damned’. The origin of Anne Rices vampires compared to Dracula, is far more interesting and with a more historic background (over 5000 years ago), and I think that’s what’s made the books so successful.
When I saw the film I noticed that there ...

Advantages: fantastic soundtrack, overall behind bad film - great book Disadvantages: badly presented characters, lack of thought, missed out important parts/characters
The Film 'The Queen of The Damned' is based on Anne Rice's 2nd and 3rd Vampire chronicles 'The Vampire Lestat' and 'The Queen of The Damned'.
As with most films based on books, If you have read the book first you will probably find the film a poor representative. Overall without reading the book I probably would have found the film satisfactory, however being the pedantic women I am, I spent the majority of the film comparing it to the book.
If ... ...good. Making a wonderful queen Akasha and although I feel most of the film was badly cast she would be an exception.
The main good point of this film was the soundtrack. It features artists such as Marilyn Manson, Static X, Papa Roach, Linkin Park, Disturbed and Kidney Thieves.
The soundtrack is a great combination of atmosphere and listenable tracks. I feel this a good introduction to the books, maybe someone will be inspired to read the books ...

Advantages: Good film, interesting plot, captures viewers Disadvantages: doesn't follow book entirely
Now I know that other's have voted against this film, but I stand by my views. This is a great film, primarily being you don't have to have read the books for it to make sense. The film has been made so that it appeals to those who have followed the Anne Rice trilogy and those who haven't.
The plot isn't one of those amazing thought provoking plots that you see about in the cinemas all the time now. If you want that, read the book. It does, however, ... ...so that it flows better. Though I was slightly disappointed at the amount they have cut from the book - including a lot of the history to the events that were occuring in the film, and why etc.

...Aaliyah Marguerite Moreau plays the Queen of the Damned herself and makes her slither and slide around the dance floor looking down on her victims sadistically. Advantages: Great music, good performances and well-designed special effects Disadvantages: Narrow audience, quite a predictable plotline.
This film is the sequel to Interview With The Vampire, the film adaptation of Ann Rice's novel of the same title.
If you have either seen the first film, or read The Vampire Chronicles then you will no doubt be curious as to how this has been adapted onto the big screen.
Personally, I think that this film is an improvement on the first film, as the performances seem a little more true and certainly more animated. The first film bored me somewhat, ... ...lot of the time. This, however, changes for the sequel. The film kicks right off with a slice of history from the character of Lestat (Stuart Townsend) himself, speaking about his past. There is a sudden push into action as Lestat finds his new friends.
The film then progresses from there, with occasional flashbacks to Lestat's past and his learning to become a vampire. We learn about him and the background of other characters in the story, how ...

Hearing the soundtrack before seeing the film gave me the impression that the movie would be huge. Sadly, I was mistaken. Having read all the vampire chronicles I was looking forward to seeing this film, the book was brilliant, intense, deep, moving, wonderful. The film then, I reasoned must be a masterpiece.
I was wrong.
The characters have no depth, you learn nothing about their historys, and where did Maharet's sister go. They were twins! Nothing ... ...was under the impression it was Magnus that created Lestat, not Marius. Did anyone who worked on the film read the original books???
Anne Rice must be regretting the day she signed over the film rights. What a complete and utter mess. The effects were early 90's, so much more could have been done. The writing was terrible. The performances barely make up for this embarassment. Aaliya was brilliant, but even she can not brighten up this tragedy.
