Advantages: Great Acting and a stunning Story Disadvantages: Lack Of Action
Peter Bowman (David Morse), an American engineer in a Latin American country is kidnapped for a $3 million dollar ransom. Abandoned by her husband's employer and insurance company, his wife Alice (Meg Ryan) refuses to give up on his life. She takes on the task of bringing him home but soon realizes she can't do that without help.
An expert in "K&R" (Kidnap & Ransom), Terry Thorne (Russell Crowe) takes on the job, but soon finds it to be trickier ... ...happen whilst bartering for Peter's life.
So that is the story but has Taylor Hackford managed to make this action suspense drama about desperation, loyalty and faith set against the backdrop of the big profit business of international kidnapping work as a film? The simple answer is yes he has!

Advantages: It's nice to see Russell Crowe in something different Disadvantages: This is no 'Gladiator' but it is well worth a look nevertheless.
Russell Crowe enhances his credentials as head Hollywood hunk with another competent performance as a kidnap recovery specialist. The first part of the film is full of interesting background stuff about the scale of the kidnapping problem. And who knew there was a living to be made by snatching people back? Crowe's character decides to go the extra mile for his client (Meg Ryan) after her husband is deemed to be an insurance write off. Strangely, ... ...cross over to the production and they never really set the screen alight. The premise that Ryan's character should fall for the man who is trying to return her husband is self defeating and so the relationship is left unresolved. Having said all that, the action sequences are wonderfully handled and if you see it in a decent cinema, the sound is absolutely superb. ...
