Advantages: Good use of Derbyshire scenery Disadvantages: Poor acting, poor script, disapointing and dull
I must admit to approaching this movie with a certain degree of trepidation, for I could not see how they could possible do justice to the novel in two hours. Sadly, the film failed to cast any of my doubts aside. It is a rushed adaptation, with a seemingly thrown together script. The acting was passable, with no real on screen chemistry between the leading characters.
Contrary to popular opinion I do not disregard this film purely because it does ... ...do not feel an adaptation can in so short a time. It is simple the case that the entire thing left me cold.
Keira Knightley failed to display the appropriate wit and intelligence as the young Elizabeth, Jennifer Ehle did much better. Matthew Macfadyen was a fair yet uninspiring Mr Darcy. Judi Dench, who I had held out much hope, limped as Lady Catherine de Bourg.
Mrs Bennett came across as a rural washerwomen rather than the wife of a gentleman. ...

...a quick snack - this Pride & Prejudice might satisfy you for a short while, however if you are looking for an elegant five course meal, only the original BBC series will satisfy your hunger and delight your taste-buds!
My advice is to purchase the original BBC series on DVD. You will be blessed with five hours of beautiful Austen craftsmanship. ...

Advantages: Beautiful all over Disadvantages: Known to be better versions
When I first saw this film I fell in love with it straight away. It was beautifully set and was a brilliant film altogether.
===What it is about===
The film is mainly centered around a girl named Elizabeth Bennet and her family. Elizabeth is of age to be married which her mother often tries to push her into. Meeting a man named Mr Darcy whos friend likes her sister, she can not help being pushed into getting to know him. Can she admit her true ... ...role perfectly. She definatley reflects the character which Jane Austen portrays in her book. Along with the great acting and beautiful scenery. Another factor that made me fall in love with the film was the beautiful score. Mostly piano, which helps set a certain mood and keeps the film in its need to be relaxed environment. ...

Advantages: Very pretty to look at Disadvantages: worst offender (among many): mr darcy's lack of charisma
...fill. The BBC adaptation of Pride & Prejudice was practically perfect . Yes, there were some groans that Jennifer Ehle was too old to play Lizzie, but Ehle captured her spirit - more than can be said for Keira Knightly. For while Knightly is the right age and is impossibly beautiful, there's not a lot there. And what IS there, infuriatingly, is lifted directly from Ehle's performance. Her recitation and inflection on many of the lines is an almost ... ...Sadly, unlike the BBC adap. which thrust the soulful Colin Firth into the limelight, here Matthew Macfadyen flounders, mistaking squinting with depthful introspection. The lack of chemistry between the leads shows painfully when the landscape offers the audience more interest than the central romance.
In the novel Mr Bingley is presented as a gentle, kind man who is a suitable match for Jane. Here, he is a buffoon.
Another point of derision: Austen ...

Advantages: Everything Disadvantages: It puts the other one to shame
Brilliant story, Austen is the mistress of romantic drama, no film could possibly go wrong with such a brilliant plot. The actors have lived up to the original quality of the piece as this is just an outstanding film to watch, far better than that dubious Television version of it. It is so vibrant with colour. And there can be no doubt, after this performance that Keira Knightley is the best British Actress at the moment and it goes without saying, ...

Advantages: Amazing Disadvantages: It should last forever
I love this film.
It is amazing especially the piano music.
This film was a beautiful adaptation of the book. This was perfectly film with lots of clever little shots. I first saw the film, plainly because one of my friends was in it, therefore taking the view of only going to see it for her sakes, however my attitude quickly changed when I saw it and now it has become one of my favourite films!
It is great value for money, especially on websites, ...

Advantages: use of Jane austen's original dialogue Disadvantages: not enough Mr. Darcy
Pride and prejudice has been adapted so many times it was hard to see what need there was for yet another, but loving the book I was happy to give this one a chance.
I don't want to say it wasn't good, it just wasn't anything special. I didn't warm to Matthew Mcfayden as Darcy, and didn't really see why Lizzie would have- the exchanges between the two of them lost in the need to explain the actions of secondary characters. For example, in the book ... ...feels the need to explain herself to Lizzie. It wasn't that the makers put in ideas that aren't in the original, more that they took time to explain things which are obvious and took away from developing the main relationship between Lizzie and Darcy.
Aside from that the acting was good and the settings exquisite. Keira Knightley isn't my idea of Lizzie, but she proved me wrong providing the energy and a glimpse of the vivacity that makes Lizzie ...

Advantages: Shorter than the BBC adaptation Disadvantages: Lead actors
As someone teaching this book to students I was really pleased to find a version which was short enough to show in class and pretty close to the original text. However I found the two lead actors (playing Elizabeth B and Darcy) very far from the convincing - Darcy (Macfadyen) lacked sparkle and Elizabeth (Knightley) lacked strength. What made me most shocked was the kissing! There is NO kissing in Austen... ever... and that's what makes her so wonderful ...

Advantages: Fabulous show with beautiful English Countryside. Well worth watching to ignite that English romance. Disadvantages: None that I can think of
"You must know... surely, you must know it was all for you. You are too generous to trifle with me. I believe you spoke with my aunt last night, and it has taught me to hope as I'd scarcely allowed myself before. If your feelings are still what they were last April, tell me so at once. My affections and wishes have not changed, but one word from you will silence me forever. If, however, your feelings have changed, I will have to tell you: you have ... ...I love you. I never wish to be parted from you from this day on."
(Mr Darcy)
At first instance, I must state that this film is absolutely gorgeous! Well worth watching with your loved one curled up on a sofa. Brings out the stirring beauty in English romance. Definitely a winner.
Allow yourself to be romanced by this remake of Jane Austen's book. The use of literary imagery is superb, even the pathetic fallacy is very apt as you see the weather ...
