...A&E mini series adaptation of Pride and Prejudice only last year. One of my flatmates was a great fan of it and one cold and dreary Friday night the five of us, accompanied by duvets, ice-cream and icky microwavable popcorn, sat down to watch it. All I can say, is thank goodness the weather was bad enough that no one volunteered to go out to the video shop for a movie.
Pride and Prejudice is the only one of Jane Austen’s novels that I find myself ... ...story told with imagination and wit that have been beautifully preserved in this mini-series. Here, we are introduced to the Bennets, a family of five girls none of whom are married. When a single wealthy man moves to the neighbourhood, the girls’ mother naturally sees an opportunity to marry of one of her daughters. And so we are drawn into the famous love story of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Fitzwilliam Darcy; one too proud to admit his feelings, the ...

Advantages: Perfect adaptation of Jane Austen's most popular book Disadvantages: None
This BBC version of Pride and Prejudice from 1995 is widely held to be the best Jane Austen adaptation of all time. Most Jane Austen adaptations are done in movie form and take many liberties with the text (eg the 2005 Keira Knightly movie seemed to replace light sparkling Austen with dark moody Bronte). The 1995 BBC adaptation however was a done as a six-part series and this gave them the space to explore the book in all it's complexity.
I'm not ... ...special on the Making of Pride and Prejudice, which takes you behind the scenes as the director and producer explain how they chose the locations and cast the characters. I was disappointed that they didn't include more specials for this aniversary set - it would have been lovely to see interviews with the cast and to have more Austenography and information on the period the book was set in.

Advantages: Excellent cast of actors, known and unknown Disadvantages: none
If you read my ‘All About Me’ then you will already know that this is my all time favourite film. This review, in my opinion, will never do it justice, but here goes nothing.
First, let me give you a very brief and basic outline of the story:
Elizabeth Bennet (Jennifer Ehle) is the leading lady, and she is the second of five sisters, she is famous locally for her beauty and elegance. The eldest sister, Jane, played by Susannah Harker, ... ...Mary, Kitty and Lydia are each silly or stupid in their own little ways. Her mother has little sense, is constantly complaining about her imaginary nervous condition and is often very rude to those who she does not approve of. Mr. Bennet, is a negligent father, taking solace in his library and ignoring the going on’s of Longbourn, his estate and their home.
There is an addition to the neighbourhood, as Mr. Bingley arrives bringing with him ...

Advantages: two words for you: 'colin' and 'firth' Disadvantages: this isn't really one, but at times the actors are...too good
Well, I am almost sure that everyone who has purposely sought out an opinion on this video has at least some kind of an idea as to the basic storyline, but for those of you that don't, here is a VERY quick plot synopsis:
Elizabeth Bennet is the second of five sisters, 3 of whom, and her own mother, are ridiculously silly. She and her elder sister are reputed local beauties, in particular the eldest Miss Bennet, or Jane. Enter the rich man from the ... ...false and snobby sisters, and his proud best friend Darcy. Darcy at first insults Elizabeth's beauty, but duly falls for her wit, vivacity, as well as her fine eyes. But did the course of true love ever run smooth? No. And for these two pairs of lovers, it is no different. Can Lizzy and Darcy overcome their 'pride' and 'prejudice'?
Right, now that that's cleared up, we can get on with the review.
Amongst the backdrop of many stately homes throughout ...

...of books, and chanced upon Pride and Prejudice. I thought I have finally come of age and may understand the story and context without being terrorised by the English language. To cut a long story short, I fell in love with the book and became an Austen fan. Since I did not have the privilege of watching Pride and Prejudice while it was on the tele, I could not resist getting a copy of it on DVD.
This is the BBC adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride ... ...or was it that her pride was hurt?!? I don't know, but you get the drift.
For those who have seen the series on BBC, you will agree that this version was very well done. Not only did it follow the book closely, the scenery, photography, costumes, houses, furniture etc were all made to look authentic and realistic. The dialogues! I have often despair that adaptations fell short of the books because the dialogues were dissimilar and did not convey ...

I first read pride and prejudice for English coursework, and fell in love with it instantly. I watched the 1995 BBC adaption soon after, and was impressed by how close to the book it stayed.
An outline of the main storyline is: A family of 5 girls lives in an estate called Longbourne in Hertfordshire. Their mother, Mrs. Bennet, is only concerned with getting them married to rich husbands, so obviously she is over the moon when a man of five-thousand-a-year ... ...story, we meet Mr. Bingleys 2 sisters, one of their husbands (the other one is single), and Mr. Bingleys close friend Mr. Darcy (Colin Firth).
Mr. Binley soon falls in love with the eldest Bennet sister, Jane. Mr. Darcy, on the other hand, being very proud does not allow himself to mix with people at the balls. He sees them as being below himself (his wealth is double that of Mr. Bingleys.) The first time he sees Elizabeth, he describes her as being ...

Advantages: Great adaption, family film, hours of entertainment Disadvantages: a bit long,
This is one of my most loved posessions. Although the two tapes take a long time to watch it is well worth it. Any fan of Jane Austen will love this. The adaption has the most beautiful countryside you have seen for a while. You can easily see the trees, flowers and views all the time during the film. When the actors/actresses are on horseback, riding in carriages or walking down the street you get the feeling of openness and fresh air as well as ... ...are breathtaking and they make the whole cast look delightful. The best actress has to be Jennifer Ehle who plays Elizabeth. She is a lovely actress and plays the part very well. She has this kind of beauty that is not stunning but is very gentle and kind, if you know what I mean. I love the way she says her lines especially when she dislikes Mr Darcy and has to pretend she does. Her facial expressions etc all add to her excellent acting skills.

Advantages: Tight breeches on a smouldering sexy Colin Firth.... WOW Disadvantages: I'm not Lizzie, Boo Hoo
My first experience of Pride & Prejudice was the latest version with Kiera Knightley and the yummy Matthew Macfadyen (which I enjoyed immensely)
I was then bought the BBC version, for my birthday, and I looked at Colin Firth on the cover and thought "Is he a good Mr Darcy?"
I settled down with some red wine, popcorn and the house to myself (a very rare occurrence) Before I knew it, I had watched both discs and was left with a breathless "Oh, Mr ... ...the fact I'd been on my sofa for 5 hours)
You can really see the attraction between Mr Darcy and Lizzie (The smouldering looks and heaving chests) when they are at Pemberley, which just happens to be Mr Darcy's VAST estate. Jennifer Ehle is the perfect choice for Lizzie and as for Colin Firth, well, prepare to want to be Lizzie (I know I do). You really pick up on the sexual chemistry of these actors, and I feel that it is a contributing factor ...

Advantages: Superb cast, wonderful story and of course the dashing Colin Firth as Mr Darcy Disadvantages: Addictive
A fantastic story brought to life by a superb cast.
Follow the Bennets, a Mother who suffers with supposedly fragile nerves, a Father who has no time for trival things and wishes to stay out the way and five daughters who all have very different characters.

I have a passion for period dramas and this is without doubt my favourite, the casting is perfect and no one could have made a better Mr Darcy than Colin Firth, his sultry moody looks will have most women swooning.

Advantages: Amazing adaptation of a well loved novel. Disadvantages: You will be in love with Colin Firth at the end of it!
I originally borrowed this series from a close friend of mine and settled down at my computer over two days after school to watch it. I was quite aprehensive over whether I would get bored, after all it was a classic book, and five and a half hours long.
After the first half hour of it I was hooked, and I would have watched it all there and then if I hadn't been so tired.

This is the ultimate rainy afternoon film to sit back relax and enjoy. This is one adaption that you can say has been done well and is very truthful to the book, which I have read numerous times and will read numerous more. The sisters must marry well to have a future and the story follows them on the ups and downs of dating. This ... ...mother in law in history (but very funny) and the father everyone would want. An excellent adaptation of Jane Austens Novel, So much better than the Keira Knightly Version. Ok it may be 6 hours long, but it is well worth the viewing time. The Characters are a mixture of unknown and known celebritys. Colin Firth as Mr Darcy is thrilling, he manages to be Proud and Disagreeable to a Tee! Elizabeth Bennet played by Jennifer Ehle is fantastic, she is just as i imagined her to be when reading the book.
