Pretty Woman - She walked off the street, into his life and stole his heart.
This is, by far, my most favourite film of all time. I may be male, and straight, but I still think that this film is brilliant, even though it is your typical “chick flick”
Released in 1990 and directed by Garry Marshall (the same guy who directed the movie Beaches and also apparently directed some Happy Days and Mork & Mindy episodes), this film is a story about a rich ... ...Hollywood street.
Edward, played by Richard Gere is a suave, extremely wealthy businessman specializing in taking over companies and then selling them off piece by piece. Following his break up with his girlfriend over the phone after a nasty argument at the start of the film, Edward takes his friend's car and speeds away, getting lost on Hollywood Boulevard looking for his hotel. He stops en route to ask Vivian Ward (Julia Roberts), a hooker walking ...

Pretty Woman was released in 1990, and is one of the ultimate chick flicks. For me, most of those films are from the 1980s - for some reason they just got it right then. Pretty Woman is allowed into the club because it's only just into the 1990s, and because it's so darn good. Starring the dream team of Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, Pretty Woman tells the story of Vivian, a hooker working Hollywood Boulevard in LA, and Edward, a millionaire businessman ... ...the title track, Roy Orbison's Pretty Woman, with an absolutely unforgettable riff. Other favourites of mine and tracks which stand out are the very 1980s King Of Wishful Thinking and Wild Women Do, and of course the film's big ballad - Roxette's It Must Have Been Love, a song which I still find moving over 20 years after its original release. Visually, the film doesn't yet look dated. Of course the fashions mark it as a film from 1990, but in terms ...

...Yes, we've all seen it, Pretty Women, probably on of the best loved chick flicks of our generation. Pretty Women is now nearly 20 years old but still of one my favourite films, it has some classic lines and a really heartwarming story. Cue the Pretty Woman song by Roy Orbison and you have part of the main soundtrack. It must be so fun to be able to dress up like that and have all the shop staff wait on you hand and foot and she does come away with some wonderful outfits, even if they are a bit 90's!! The shopping doesn't go smoothly in the beginning though and one of my favourite lines includes the part where she goes back to the snooty lady in one of the boutiques, ...

...the most memorable scenes in Pretty Woman is Vivian singing along to Prince’s 'Kiss' in a giant bubble bath. Despite her profession, Vivian is shown to be sweet and pure. Similarly, in their apartment, Kit is often shown clutching a teddy bear, emphasizing her innocence. Richard Gere, on the other hand, is extremely subdued and wooden. For trivia buffs, Richard Gere is actually playing a song that he composed himself. A truly ridiculous sex scene follows. ...like many ‘girls‘ my age Pretty Woman is a film that leaves you feeling happy and content if not a little thoughtful of what could have been. I still place this in to my top 10 as one of my favourite films of all time - alongside Ghost, Dirty Dancing, Officer and a Gentlemen. I first caught a glimpse of this when my older sister got it on vhs video when it was released in 1990. I came in the room, aged 10, and she quickly put it off, but I quickly seen a glimpse of a woman on a piano, and a man lifting up her dress. "What's he doing?" I asked. "giving her a cuddle", said my sister. "Ok" I said - she was lying! I've now watched the dvd over and over again, and it is 1 of my favourite films. So what is it about? He sees Vivian and asks for directions. Vivian is more than happy to help -for a price. After all she doesn't come for free. He offers $10, she ...

Pretty Woman is a film mostly based around the two main characters. Julia Roberts plays Vivienne a prostitute, who is struggling to cover the rent, who picks up a rich city man, Edward, played by Richard Gere. I Love Pretty Woman. I am a feminist, hence I am aware of the ongoing discussion regarding this movie. Yes, even academia participates! This 1990 movie, directed by Garry Marshall ("Overboard", "Jumping Jack Flash") is entertaining from beginning to end. Certainly, the cast (Julia Robert, Richard Gere, Laura San Giacomo) doesn't exactly hurt one's eyes. Jason Alexander appears in a role (greedy and sleazy philandering businessman) in which you'll ... ...in this movie? For one, it mocks the Schickeria, the High Society. Members of that group are portrayed as dull, uninspired, nasty and quite rude. The noticeable exception is, of course, our hero, Edward Lewis (Gere). It appears that he's worked hard for his money, just as does Vivian Ward (Roberts), whom he picks up one night on Hollywood Boulevard (remind you on some real-life story you've heard that didn't end that well?). One might say: "okay, ...

Pretty Woman is one of the best movies I ever saw because it touches people's hearts. The convincing combination of comedy and romance make the movie worthy seeing it again and again. I love it. It's one of my favourite 'sit down and relax with a feelgood movie' type of films, and I've seen it more times than I can count. Forget the morality of the tale - this is romance in the 20th Century and so what if the leading lady is a prostitute and the leading man is a hard-nosed 'screw you for every penny' business man? To reveal the ending wouldn't be a crime because most people know what it's about anyway, but it's the little touches ... ...the restaurant and the cameo with the grovelling sales assistant along Rodeo Drive). Advantages: Relaxing, good story Disadvantages: none really
If you want comedy, romance and a good story, all in the same film, this one is for you.
Julia Roberts (Vivienne) and Richard Gere (Edward) give an excellent and convincing performance in this modern day fairy tale.
Edward is a millionaire who picks up Vivienne, a hooker. A deal is struck and Vivienne agrees to spend the week with him. The one rule she makes is that there is to be no 'kissing on the mouth' as that is too personal.
There is a big ... ...story, so I won't tell you how it all turns out.
Vivienne needs the right clothes so that she can accompany Edward to various business functions while he is 'in town'. She goes out with plenty of money to buy herself some clothes. Money is no object as Edward has been quite generous, but she finds that she is not accepted in the 'posh' shops on the boulevard. A trip to the same stores with Edward changes that.
There are lots of very funny touches ...
