Christmas at the North Pole

Advantages: Amazing animation
Disadvantages: Story a bit dull for adults

...sleep on Christmas Eve, despite the fact he no longer believes in Santa Claus. Suddenly a train pulls up outside his house and the train conductor tells him to board, because they are on their way to the North Pole. Our hero does, and finds a train filled with other children, all of whom are given hot chocolate. He makes friends with two of the children - a nameless young girl and a lonely little boy called Billy. The train, meanwhile, makes its ...
...and the conductor come across Santa Claus. There, they wait for him to decide who is going to receive 'The First Gift of Christmas'. Who will that be? And will our hero find his way home safely? . I've always been rather intrigued by this film, because what looked to me like an animated film was frequently talked about as if it had real actors (rather than just voice actors). And at first glance, it does indeed seem to be animated. Some research ...

...own copy soon! So, to the review. The Polar Express is a wonderful animated film, set on Christmas Eve, and follows the tale of one boy. Strangely enough, we never learn his realy name, but in the credits he is called "Hero Boy" so that is what I shall call him throughout the review. Hero Boy has begun to doubt the existence of Father Christmas, or Santa as he is called in the film. He tries to listen out for Santa on Christmas Eve but doesn't hear ...

Hero Boy does so, and is greeted by many other children. The rest of the film follows the childrens ...

Advantages: Good family entertainment.
Disadvantages: Not really an adult film though one that families can enjoy together.

...and thoughts of journeys to the North Pole to check out the reality of Father Christmas are behind us for a while, although when I bought this film last week, I bought it on the strength of its' main character, Tom Hanks. I like the man. I like his dry humour, his romanticism, and the laughter he has given me in films like "The Money Pit", and judged my purchase upon his name. I was expecting something different from what I got, although here, I ...
...a well deserved break from the serious Tom Hanks we all know and love. The story is a well known one, written by Chris Van Allsburg and what Warner Brothers have done is to bring the story up to date. It's about the journey from the childhood belief in Santa Clause to that moment of doubt where you lose the innocent belief without question in what adults tell you. That stepping stone between being a child, and being someone stuck between adolescence ...

The Polar Express

Advantages: great christmas film
Disadvantages: not so good after christmas

The Polar Express DVD I was bought this film for Christmas from my mum as I was complaining that before Christmas I had nothing to watch that would get me into the Christmas spirit. Apart from sitting watching Alistair Sims version of scrooge with my dad which in my view is not giving as much Christmas spirit as it should. Anyhow it being February now nearly March I thought it time I watched it. Seeing as I'm on my sick bed from work and too skint ...
...it was all about. The first thing I noticed when beginning to watch this film is that Tom Hanks appears to do most of the adult voices and appears as many a different character. He is woken up from his light sleep by a sudden large noise, which stirs him to ...

Advantages: great feel good factor
Disadvantages: the real thing may have been better

The Polar Express is a superb family feel good film. The Film. Its Christmas Eve, a young lad is struggling to come to terms, with his lack of belief in Santa Claus. Everything is over commercialised, and the only Santa he can see for himself, is the mechanical one in the local department store. As nightfall approaches and its time for bed, he drifts of to sleep believing his parents are responsible for the toys and gifts on Christmas morning. ...

The Polar Express

Advantages: Good Story Line
Disadvantages: Some parts boring, characters boring

The polar express is an overall good DVD with only a few imperfections that make it's total score 3 stars. (Satisfactory.) The story is a great one about a boy who doesn't believe in Christmas. As a result, he is chosen to ride the magical "Polar Express," which takes him on a trip into the North Pole. There, he learns the true meaning of Christmas. The problem is that at least %60 of the film is spent one the train itself, and that long part of ...
...Also, the characters are somewhat boring because you don't get a chance to know them. Overall, the film is definately a satisfactory choice around the holidays. Although it doesn't compare to Santa Claus, Santa Claus 2, and Santa Claus 3. Together, those three films make up a trilogy that's worth watching any time of the year. Others may disagree with these ratings, so if you're skeptical, don't be afraid to watch, and find out for yourself! ...
