PETER PAN FOR THE 21ST CENTURY

Advantages: Great story, wonderful fx, heart warming
Disadvantages: Minor complaints re some fx

...didn’t want to grow up. Peter Pan is a fantasy, almost elf-like boy, who occasionally visits London to find out more about children’s tales. On this visit, he is looking to find out more about the fate of Cinderella when he encounters the Darling family. Made up of Mr and Mrs Darling, Aunt Millicent, Wendy, Michael, John and Nana the St Bernard, the Darlings appear to be a typical Victorian family who are very close and enjoy each others company. ...

Not Pantastic

Advantages: Good for easily entertained children
Disadvantages: Bit of a snooze for adults

...a trip to Neverland with Peter Pan and the Lost Boys, think happy thoughts and take the plunge. Hogan’s directorial touch is light and his decision to use immense background mattes for both London and Neverland gives the locales a magical and surreal aspect – all pink and white puffy clouds and sunkissed skies. It is a trick that belies the story’s stage origins and means that one never feels totally immersed in the world presented on screen, but ...
...in the cold outside. Peter Pan is played by first-timer Jeremy Sumpter. He is cocky enough to convince as the eternally young hero and he shows a decent emotional range in the scenes where he is required to be a little more than arrogant. So he’s likeable enough, although it irks me somewhat that the lead such an English classic is played by an American. Rachel Hurd-Wood, who plays Wendy is part of that old school of child actors who have been ...

It'll be an awfully big adventure...

Advantages: Sticks to the book very well
Disadvantages: None that I could find

...study is J. M. Barrie's Peter Pan. Having read the book it is suggested that we try and watch as many film derivatives of the novel as we have time to do, as in this way we can be aware of how that novel has infiltrated popular culture. The film derivative I chose to watch first was the 2003 Peter Pan, which was directed by P.J. Hogan. The film begins as you would expect it to with the mischievous Peter Pan visiting the Darling family children through ...
...her sleep. After enquiring why Peter is crying only to be shot back by his bravado attitude Wendy helps him re-attach his shadow and has soon been propositioned with a magical visit to Never-Land. Refusing to leave without her brothers Peter relents and along with Tinkerbell, the eternally jealous fairy, Wendy and her brothers John and Michael are led across the Victorian rooftops and off into the night. As morning breaks the Darling children find ...

PETER PAN (2003 live action film)

Advantages: Beautiful scenes & great acting
Disadvantages: Very small children may get scared

...know the basic story of Peter Pan you must have spent your life with a bucket on your head. Most of you, like me, will know the story purely from the Disney animated film and storybooks, or if you are very unlucky from the only other live action version to this, ‘Hook’ (starring Dustin Hoffman, Robin Williams, Bob Hoskins and the only good thing about the whole film – Julia Roberts as Tinkerbell). Now there isn’t anything that wrong with the animated ...
...she at all relishes. Peter Pan turns up as the magical boy who likes to listen to Wendy’s stories from outside the window, as he hasn’t got a mother to tell him stories, and then he goes back to the Lost Boys on Never Never Land to tell them, as they are also orphans. When his shadow escapes into the Darlings nursery he chases after it and encounters Wendy and the boys and takes about two minutes to convince them to go with him to Never Never Land ...

Come Away to Never Land

Advantages: faithful to the original story, good special effects
Disadvantages: just not quite as expected

...slightly obsessed by all things Peter Pan. I never got round to seeing it in the cinemas, even though i'd wanted to, but i eventually got it a couple of christmases ago on DVD. Sure enough i was transported into Never Land, with it's fluffy clouds, fairies and giant ticking crocodiles. As well as going adventuring with the lost boys, but it just seemed like something was missing and i'm still not entirely sure what. Peter Pan is J.M.Barrie's classic ...
...to. That is until Peter whisks her away, along with her two brothers (Micheal and John) to Never Land and the Lost Boys Here Wendy becomes mother to the Lost Boys, telling them stories and feeding them medicine. This, however, is not problem free, Peters sidekick, Tinkerbell, gets jealous at the lack of attention he is now showing her and at one point plots to kill Wendy. Add into the story Peters ongoing battle with the imfamous Captain Hook and ...

Shoot the Wendybird!

Advantages: The fairies are beautifully done, characters well cast, quite dark in places for the adults, faithful to the original
Disadvantages: Could have been longer, quite dark in places, might upset children

Peter Pan, J.M. Barrie's classic is brought to life in this film. From the capture of Pan's shadow through to the battle on Hook's ship the story is enthralling. Wendy is told that the time for games with the boys and stories of pirates is over, and that she must begin to learn to be a woman. Her Aunt Millicent (played by Lynne Redgrave) is going to take her tutoring over from Nana - a dog. That night, Peter enters her bedroom, and as he tries to ...
...the Mermaids/Sirens. Peter Pan is played by Jeremy Sumpter, who portrays Pan exactly as I see him - a cheeky chap, who feels a little bit left behind, but stubbornly holding on to his decisions (and childhood) to the last. The characters in this have been really well casted, and there are some lovely bit parts from Geoffery Palmer and Richard Briers. Best cast is Captain Hook. After Dustin Hoffman brilliantly graced the screens as Hook more than ...

The ALL NEW Peter Pan

Advantages: Hillarious, Quality Comedy
Disadvantages: nada

...wedding (Hogan) brings to us peter pan, a mega budget extravaganza. Jeremy Sumpter who plays peter pan has not been able to capture a brave spirit when compared to the ageless peter pan. Sumpter is a child in the movie and is great to see him sky rocketing around the imaginary never land thus separating him from robin Williams the actor of hook which is the older version of peter pan. Sumpter is in company of the luminous Wendy (Rachel Hurd-wood)) ...
...moments. The simple and sweet fairytale has been transformed by special effects. The only one in an unusually good form who deserves to get full score is Jason Isaac who plays captain hook. Although the movie is an invitation to a 5 star dinner for you and your family but been served only appetizers it’s a must for every kid as it is fulfilled and hilarious. ...
