Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant forge memorable chemistry in this charmer about William, an unassuming bookstore owner in London's Notting Hill section and Anna, a Hollywood actress...
more...who, against the odds, are able to fall in love. After Anna wanders into William's shop while filming on location in London, the two share an instant attraction and find themselves attempting to forge a normal relationship despite Anna's megawatt star power. Screenwriter Richard Curtis (FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL) has crafted a traditional romantic comedy which is surprisingly frank in it's depiction of the lives of the rich and famous and the price they pay for success.

Feel good movie
Review of Notting Hill (Wide Screen) by Michael666

Advantages: Rhys Ifans absolutely fantastically funny
Disadvantages: Lack of extras

...notes and pointless map of Notting Hill with some reference points, compared to the American version of this DVD that gets an audio commentary, deleted scenes and a section with Hugh Grant. What makes me even madder, the film is British and there is no reason why the extra material shouldn't be built-in to the British DVD. But overall a nice movie to own with a great picture and sound it is however ultimately let down by poor extras. Cast Julia ... Read review

Fall in Love Atleast Once in your life
Review of Notting Hill (Wide Screen) by asyis

Advantages: Good Sweet Performance by the complete cast,
Disadvantages: None

...power of love. Same way, Notting Hill is one of the Sweet British movies, which, you can’t miss it. Set exclusively in the homely England town of Notting Hill, William Thacker (Hugh Grant) is a lonely 35-year-old divorcee who runs a travel bookshop and shares a townhouse with the goofy, unsightly Spike (Rhys Ifans), a scruffy-looking man who is oddly lovable even when he is revolting. One day while at work, William finds his life suddenly ... Read review

Somewhere in W11!
Review of Notting Hill (Wide Screen) by kingfisher111

Advantages: A real feel good film!
Disadvantages: None!

...film is the setting of Notting Hill itself - particularly the street market which provides a backdrop of lively and colourful characters. This is coupled with an amazing soundtrack. It starts and finishes with Elvis Costello's rendition of 'She', and with others such as Ronan Keating's 'When You Say Nothing at All' and the Lighthouse Family's 'Ain't no Sunshine', I think it is one of my favourite soundtracks of all time! Although I would class ... Read review

Love in Notting Hill
Review of Notting Hill (Wide Screen) by Spottydog11

Advantages: great film, fun actors, great location
Disadvantages: None

...William Thacker in this movie Notting Hill. William is a book store owner in a cute little part of Notting Hill. Not many people visit his store so when Julie Roberts wanders in one day he thinks all his Christmases have come at once. Julie plays the part of Anna Scott, a multi award winning actress and Superstar (much like Julie Roberts herself). At first she does not see the cute side of William. At one of their first meetings he pours orange ... Read review

if you want to smile...
Review of Notting Hill (Wide Screen) by Boris

Advantages: Low High Street Price Very Funny Good choice of cast Everyone can enjoy
Disadvantages: Limited use of DVD media

One of the funniest and most enjoyable films that I have ever seen. This is in my mind the best British Film in recent years and that includes Lock Stock, Snatch and such like It has extremely funny lines, strongly emotional scenes and once again allows Hugh Grant the opportunity to be the shy Brit with a penchant for American Ladies which never seems to gorw tiresome at the box office. In addition it has a great soundtrack both in terms of ... Read review

Advantages: A lovely British comedy from the writer of Four Weddings
Disadvantages: Lack of extras is a let down

...a book shop on London’s Notting Hill. William Thacker, played by Hugh Grant, in his usual British Fop style, runs the tiny bookshop and is talking to a customer he finds himself falling in love with. Unfortunately, he doesn’t realises that this is in fact famous actress, Anna Scott, who is played by just as famous and lovely Julia Roberts. Chance (or is it fate?) intervenes again when he accidentally bumps into her in the street and in ... Read review

Review of Notting Hill (Wide Screen) by Angel_Delight_20

Advantages: Great Feel Good Film, Hugh Grant and Rhys Ifans
Disadvantages: Could feel Embarresed if you cry at this film.

Notting Hill is a British romantic comedy set in Notting Hill in West London. Hugh Grant plays William Thacker, a travel bookshop owner who lives with his strange but incredibly funny flatmate Spike (Rhys Ifans). While at work a famous actress Anna Scott played by Julia Roberts enters the store and William is memorised and she leaves. Soon after they meet again although this time they literally bump into each other causing William to spill orange ... Read review

Advantages: Good comedy, unpredictable plot twists, not a dull moment
Disadvantages: None

...to see a bit of Notting Hill in the film by the same name. As the film opens, William Thacker (Hugh Grant), who owns a travel book shop, walks to work. The book shop isn't going too well and William can hardly believe his eyes when Anna Scott (Julia Roberts), movie star, comes walking through the door. Gentleman that he is, he doesn't let on that he knows who she is. Instead, he tries to be helpful in the selection of a book. When he sees that another ... Read review

Review of Notting Hill (Wide Screen) by becky_uk

...opinion but I think that Notting Hill is a definite romantic comedy, unlike many films of this genre. Notting Hill stars the big shot movie star Julia Roberts as Anna Scott, and the bookstore owner Hugh Grant as William Thacker. The story tells of William's heartbreak over the chance meeting of Anna Scott in the street, and how they get to know each other for him only to have his heart broken...twice. The story has its definite comic moments, many ... Read review

Review of Notting Hill (Wide Screen) by Chatshow

Advantages: Good cast, good script
Disadvantages: Not everyone's cup of tea

Notting Hill stars Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts, in a story that has been told many, many times (boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl, boy loses girl, boy finds girl again). Grant plays a bookshop owner who, due to a mishap with orange juice, meets the world's most famous actress (Roberts). The two get on like a house on fire, despite the entire universe (the press, the dodgy Welsh housemate and their different lifestyles) conspiring against ... Read review

Review of Notting Hill (Wide Screen) by welshgq

Advantages: Brillant Romantic Comedy
Disadvantages: Not enought of Rhys Ifans

Notting Hill is one of the best films of the 90's and in my top five romantic comedies. Notting Hill is a bit like an average day fairy tale, the films sets the scene for us to think about ponders what would happen if a beautiful, world-famous person were to suddenly drop into your life unannounced and promptly fall in love with you. Well thats what happens to Hugh Grants character (William), William owns a small bookshop in the middle of Notting ... Read review

Notting Hill
Review of Notting Hill (Wide Screen) by ros145

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

I found Notting Hill one of the best romantic comedies. The writing was phenomenal--humorous comments about the differences between England and the U.S. as well as clever remarks that many movies are lacking. The movie kept my attention and also left me feeling as if it were real, something that I had lived with the actors. Whether or not you like Julia Roberts or Hugh Grant, you should see this movie. See it with an open mind and let yourself fall ... Read review
