Barbra and her brother, Johnny, are taking flowers to their father's grave. Knowing it is getting late, Johnny teases his sister, telling her that a man they can see in the distance is coming to get her. Little does he know that the man really is going to try and get Barbra. Johnny manages to fight the man off, but then is caught himself, leaving Barbra with little option but to run for her life. Advantages: Influential and a great watch. Disadvantages: Dated there are better zombie movies out there these days.
I doubt that when George A. Romero first created this b-movie on a budget of just $114,000, he realised it would become the inspiring and classic film it is today. Now seen as a semi-cult classic it is the king of the horror b-movies.
Although it wasn't the first ever zombie movie, previous films such as Victor Halperin's White Zombie, were based on living people been controlled by a voodoo witch and were mainly set in the Carribean. Romero brought ... ...they are in todays modern cinema. With this film an entire new horror sub genre was created and Romero revealed how powerful exploitation was by setting the film in very ordinary circumstances.
When the film was first released however, it was dismissed because of the graphic scenes and the gore. However, since then it has seen many imitators including The Evil Dead and 28 Days Later and has been parodied by films such as Shaun Of The Dead as well ...
