Zombie movies. Say it once and believe in your nightmares. Believe that the dead can walk the earth and make appetisers out of your pancreas. That only destroying the brain can stop the onslaught of reanimated corpses from tearing your flesh from your bones and licking the bloody tendons they peel from your legs.
Feeling off? Read no further. In fact, don’t read the preceding paragraph. Oops – too late. Heh heh.

...of George A Romero’s classic Night of the Living Dead was made largely as a means to help Romero keep the copyright on his original film, and to help Romero gain some more money to fund his recent films seeing as he always chooses to produce them independently. This remake was directed by Tom Savini, the mastermind behind the special effects in Romero’s own Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead and also most of the horror films you can ...

...be Dawn of the Dead. Night of the Living Dead would be my daddy, and the daddy of all my many and varied brothers. Plot. OK, a handful of mismatched characters board themselves up in an old farmhouse in the middle of nowhere and try not to kill each other. There are zombies too. Made very cheaply, this film manages to turn its flaws into strengths. The non-superstar actors lend it a sense of realism with their simple but effective performances. The ...

Advantages: Cheap (in a good way) Disadvantages: Cheap (in a bad way)
Just the very name 'Night of The Living Dead' conjures up an aura of something suprememly evil and macabre, something splendidly terrifying. What we get is two steps above a home movie. This is a real low budget (no make that no budget) effort that cuts corners all the way. The cast are no names, the effects are cheesier than a cheese factory hosting a cheese exhibition, and it's all so nasty that it's excellent. Huh? Yes, it maybe cheap, it may lack ...

...immitations, sequels and spin offs. Night of the Living Dead and its follow ups were the inspiration for the Resident Evil games. But the recent remake was nothing short of offensive to fans of the original zombie fest. Ever notice how there was always a perfect, stainless white wall behind every zombiew as they were sent back to the grave, and the blood spattered up it in torrents? Well that's been done away with. Replaced by dimly lit asurroundings ...

Advantages: Horror Masterpiece from the mind of legendary director George A. Romero, zombies, blood, comedy - what more do you want? Disadvantages: Made in the 70s on a very low budget and in black and white, but you can't complain too much!
A true classic, the first part of Romero's "Dead" trilogy is a great start to the series.
Although the budget was low Romero makes the most of the black and white film to add a sense of darkness to a slightly humourous screenplay.
Romero went where no one had ever been before, and haven't been there as successfully since.
Not as good as Romero's fantastic "Dawn of the Dead" or his latest film "Land of the Dead" but still as the first part ...
