...nights are always a quiet night in for me mainly with my mum and little brother so we tend to get through films on a Monday night. So last night while we were all feeling knackered and didn’t know what to watch as nothing was on as usual Jake offered the film Night at the Museum 2. I have watched the first film and even though I didn’t think it was fantastic it was quite amusing and thought something light hearted like this would be perfect. I didn’t ... ...good choice for a Monday night as it is very light hearted and I like the kinds of films when you don’t have to think too much into them when you’re not in the mood. Another good reason why Ii thought it was going to be a good film was because of the director. Shawn Levy also directed the first movie and I was glad they kept the same director to do this one too. He has provided some good, comic films and I didn’t think we would be disappointed with ...

Advantages: Good family view Disadvantages: Not a patch on the sequel
Night at the Museum, like the Pirates of the Caribbean, was comfortably in that 'this should never have worked' movie bracket. Just as the thought of Johnny Depp playing a swashbuckling pirate was way too obvious for one of cinemas most charismatic actors, Ben Stiller to appear in the hit kid's movie of 2006 also looked rather unlikely. But Depp devoured the pirate cliché and made the role his own, Captain Jack Sparrow one of cinemas most endearing ... ...anyway, before or after the Night at the Museum, but this just seemed to be perfect for him. Marlon Brando will always be The Godfather and Stiller, Larry Daley the night watchman... Stiller does that loveable loser well and seems to appeal to most ages and demographics, what cinema really needs in tough times. As with Pirates of the Caribbean though the sequel was inevitable, the same old formula of stuffing everything that worked from the previous ...

Advantages: Decent family film. Stand out performance by Hank Azaria. Disadvantages: Humour is hit and miss. Not much of a plot.
...Public Enemy in favour of Night at The Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian. I was reluctant, as I had fairly low expectations of the film - despite moderately enjoying the first one – as it didn’t seem a likely candidate for a successful sequel (ironic given my “winning” choice was “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”). ===SYNOPSIS=== The film takes place two years after the original, with former night guard Larry Daley (Ben Stiller) now a successful but workaholic ... ...dark flashlights, oversized dog bones and un-losable key chains – all of which have a connection to his exploits in the original film) on a television shopping channel. However, his old friends – the many and varied exhibits back at the Museum of Natural History in New York where he worked – are facing an uncertain future after the museum is closed for renovations. Some are being shipped off to the Smithsonian for permanent storage in the underground ...

When Night at the Museum first came out back in 2006 I couldn't wait to see it. I was studding History at Intermediate (seems like such a big step down from Higher now...) and for some bizarre reason I loved it. Everything historical I was passionate about. And although I am not too crazed about the five periods of History I was getting this year, and the exam I have to sit on the 2nd June (!), I actually am still very passionate about anything 'in ... ...incredibly excited when I heard Night at the Museum 2 was to be released!
It was the beginning of this year when I first heard about the film, and the long wait until May the 20th when it was finally released seemed to go on forever! It didn't exactly help that this was smack bang in the middle of my exams but I made time during my 'busy' study schedule and found my way to the cinema to indulge in the adventure of a lifetime.

Night at the Museum 2 is the sequel to Night at the Museum (bet you never worked that one out!), in the original we found out that all the exhibits in New York's Natural History Museum came to life at night, due to the power of the Tablet of Ahkmenrah. Because his company has been so successful, he hasn't visited the museum for a few months, when he finally gets there he finds that many of the exhibits are packed up for transportation. Advantages: Good characters, well scripted, funnier than the first Disadvantages: None
The sequel to Night at the Museum was one of those films that makes you think where can it go from where it finished last time. Well I think that the writers have done a very good job with the follow up which offers many more thrills and spills as it follows Larry Daley's love affair with the Natural History Museum and all that's inside. The film starts with us finding out that Larry's life has gone from night watch guard to that of a successful ... ...or go back as the night guard? All will be revealed if you pop down to your local cinema. Overall the film has many funny moments which I found from an adult's point of view a lot funnier than the first. There are many great exchanges between some of the characters and in some sort of a way the film seems to have grown up slightly but at the same time is a film for all the family. Some of the acting is fantastic and the relationship between the characters ...

I quite liked the the original movie. I thought it had a nice balance of humour and invention with a reasonable story line to carry it along. In spite of the presence of Ben Stiller, who I regard as possibly the most over-rated “star” over recent years, he wasn’t out of place in this. A strong supporting cast (Steve Coogan, Owen Wilson, Robin Williams, Dick van Dyke, et al) all have decent cameos; there are good special effects, a decent script, ... ...watch. Then along comes no. 2, and we just get the same thing all over again. Amy Adams does indeed make a welcome addition, but Hank Azaria has surely hit a low point with his camp New York Pharaoh. The supporting cameos mentioned above are all there again, but they don’t offer anything new and in some cases, it’s a question of blink and miss it. If there hadn’t been the original this might have been alright. As it is, there’s a real sense of déja ...
