Advantages: Nice twist on a predictable genre with satisfyingly twisted payoff Disadvantages: Still predictable...maybe a little too trendy for its own good
...you may want to discredit My Little Eye as a bog standard gimmicky horror movie, thanks to the attention lavished by the press on its fixation with using fixed cameras to capture the action. Will you want to punch it in its pudgy chops? Depends on your level of tolerance for the familiar…
***YER BASIC PLOT***
Cash, the driving factor in many a greedy whelp’s mind, has tempted a group of 5 (3 men, 2 women) to a secluded, snow-covered, middle-of-nowhere ... ...up saving people’s necks? In My Little Eye this actually works – these people are all in need of the cash, and so when desperation kicks in due to a worsening of the situation, they will do anything to try and keep the group together and win the cash. Not knowing which way they will turn due to the lack of real character information means the story teeters on that aforementioned knife’s edge. And in true great horror movie tradition, the actors are ...

...is never the case with My Little Eye and the style seem only to further the atmosphere and tension within the house. There is something extremely sinister about the way in which the cameras seem to follow the youths around the house, switching to night vision or zooming in as and when appropriate. It becomes clear from the outset that there is no escape from the surveillance, and even when the five contestants believe that they are safe from the ... ...what will happen next, makes My Little Eye an extremely unsettling movie to watch.
My Little Eye is at face value a very modern horror film. Not only is the plot based around very modern technology, but also the whole Big Brother phenomenon is something that has only really been popular over the last few years. The soundtrack is hi-tech in the extreme, with an abundance of screeching, bleeping and juddering sound effects to jolt your nerves in all ...

...around in an upstairs room. My god, Universal were doing this in horror movies in the 1930’s. Once this all fails the movie turns to internal conflict within the group which is laughably handled before resorting to out and out shock tactics in a twist which if it wasn’t so thoroughly nasty and sick would have had me laughing at it’s utter absurdity. Nah, I can barely think of one thing to recommend about this movie. The plot is ... ...from Stellascreen but you get my point). The movie as it is presented can’t be taken as an intelligent critic of the new digital age, it is exploitation of the cheapest kind and in making the movie, altho all a work of fiction, they are little better than the people who peddle the dark side of life for real.
Go see “Lilo and Stitch” instead. ...

Advantages: Camerawork really puts you *there*, the best use of the reality TV concept so far, nicely generates claustrophobic feel, blood and gore is always welcome on Wampy's cinema screen ;o) Disadvantages: Duller than a dull day in Dullsville, cliched horror scares, packed with contradictions and plot holes
It’s my own stupid fault. There are no reviewers so out of synch with Wampy’s own feelings about things than those who work on the BBC website. If they love it, I hate it and vice versa, it never fails so, yes, it’s my own stupid fault because I read a review of My Little Eye on there which was rather favourable and went to watch it expecting something at the very least ‘watchable’ and hated it. In my defence it looks as though the UK got the movie ... ...it straight to video) so my favourite critical sources hadn’t reviewed it which left me floundering for info. but still, I should have known.
I was suckered in because My Little Eye is a horror movie and horror movies are usually exactly what critics at places like the BBC like to tear to shreds no matter how entertaining. If you see a half decent review then if you’re a fan of horror movies then you know you are in for a treat, even if you see ...

The film started in the latter half of the sixth and last month of the stay in the house therefore the characters and their predicament were sort of thrust onto the audience with no real opportunity for them to develop or build. We saw nothing of the pre-house ...

Advantages: tense and thrilling Disadvantages: a bit nasty in places
My Little Eye is a creepy, tense thriller about five strangers who go to live in a house in the middle of nowhere, where their every move will be shown on a website. Sound familiar? I hope no one entering the big brother house next week has seen this film!
The housemates have to stay in the house for six months and keep inside the house after a certain hour. If they stay for six months they will $1,000,000. The catch is if one of them leaves they ... ...made me jump out of my seat, it was brilliant and very creepy.
The atmosphere goes from tense because of being there for six months to unpleasant. Danny’s grandad who brought him up dies and Rex decided to persuade him not to go to the funeral as that will loose the money for all of them. It all becomes a bit of a question of morality, just how far will they go for money? Rex becomes convinced that the production company are lying about Danny’s ...

Advantages: You get to ignore the outside world for a couple of ideas Disadvantages: Poorly executed in almost all aspects
...with the first death. In my experience, the most effective scenes in horror movies are the ones where you are allowed to imagine what’s going on and what the victim is seeing (eg the tube station in "An American Werewolf in London"), instead of being bludgeoned over the head with blood, guts and gore. But I’m sure that fans of splatter movies will disagree heartily. Although, they may never see it, as the marketing campaign suggests it’s ... ...modem beeps and purrs?
My main bugbear with the film is that the audience aren’t credited with any intelligence. Everything is spelled out for us and we aren’t left with any room for interpretation. Remember kids, the internet can be used for evil as well as good.
Maybe this film will work better when it’s released on video, but don’t consider hiring it unless it really is the last thing in the shop. Avoid, avoid avoid! ...

...to them. In this regard, My Little Eye is not successful at being scary. Furthermore, the actors playing the characters were not very good in my opinion. None of them are big names, or at least not big enough for me to have heard of them, and they tended to over-act all their emotions, and generally not be very convincing. One way that the film was successful in creating an atmosphere, and for which I commend the director, is the use of camerawork. ... ...cameras, many shots were done from the viewpoint of one of these surveillance camera, complete with slightly grainy static. This is of course, an obvious thing to do for the director, but it is very effective - the way it makes it seem as if the characters are being spied on helps create a fearful mood. Of particular note were the night vision shots, where we the audience can see better than the characters in the room, giving the power to the watcher.

My problem with this dark sinister film is the way in which it has been filmed. A kind of fly on the wall perspective is the only way in which I can explain it. Night vision cameras etc add to the effect - as if truly tuning into Big Brother, but it does get highly irritating to watch after a while.
The story is original, but i feel it could have ... ...quite a while. i realise they were attempting to build up the characters and their dark histories, but once that had happened, the action all came at once. I'm all for a good horror, but i found this a bit to sickening for the mind!
The unknown actors seem to be somewhat still highly amateur in their performance.
The price i paid (6.99) was good for the amount of extras the DVD 2 disc edition consisted of, however, those alone made up for the rubbish ...

My initial thoughts were that the plot is a GREAT idea - what better than the kind of reality show we all love going horribly wrong - a brilliant idea in principle...but after being in the cinema for about five minutes, I began to have my doubts.
Slow to begin with, nothing much happened for the first half hour or so, and I began to wonder if anything was going to happen at all. It picked up a bit halfway through, when they first ... ...played well, no wooden acting here, and each had their own little quirks.
My final thoughts on this are that it was a great storyline idea, but they just didn't manage to pull it off. Maybe they'll remake it in a few years, and do it well this time! ...

...$1 million prize? In my part of the world the answer is ‘critical acclamation’, so I went to the cinema to watch ‘My Little Eye’. Rightly, this film has been given an 18 rating. ...the safety and comfort of my own home, and I would definitely recommend seeing it at the cinema if you can. The five characters are a little cliched (think Scream stereotypes,) but their fear and suspicion of each other is almost palpable. My Little Eye attempts to take the horror genre somewhere it hasn't been before. Unfortunately, it fails dismally. A cast of relative unknowns are Rex, Danny, Matt, Emma and Charlie (Charlotte), a group of twenty-somethings who have applied to live together in an Big Brother style isolated house for six months, their every move watched online. If they all remain for the duration, they win a million dollars each. If anyone leaves, they all lose. After ... ...a Big Brother environment. My Little Eye unfortunately did not suceed. The characters are two dimensional and it is to relate to or empathise with any of them. There is no humour and very little tension. And when the film gets to the point where it's supposed to be downright scary, all it does is remind me of a dozen other horror movies that went before, primarily Texas Chainsaw masacre. I saw very little I hadn't seen done before and came away very ...
