The Story
********
Mulan tells the story of a girl who tries really hard to please her parents. It is Disney’s first Chinese related story which tells of the legend of Mushu the Dragon and Mulan. This was Disney’s 36th animated film and what a film it is! The film begins with Mulan being prepared to have a dinner with the potential in laws but as always, she messes up somehow and again disgraces the family name. Mulan always ... ...duty to fight for china. Mulan protests this matter and the men are astounded at her out spoken nature and the men advise her father to “control her“ or words to that nature.
Mulan as well as everyone else, knows that her father is too old to fight and by going, it would surely mean he would die. Therefore, Mulan’s will for her father to live compels her to take his place. Unaware to anyone else, Mulan disguises herself as a young ...

...heck, everybody was mad because Mulan was not the Mulan they all knew and loved -- an honest to goodness, accepted military figure in chinese history and not someone who had to sneak into the army. But, after the third or fourth viewing I said, "Get over it! So what if Eddie Murphy is an ebonics-talking dragon in ancient china! It's funny!" I like Ming-Na's "Mulan" as a role model for my daughter, who always says, "Mulan saved the day again!" And ... ...would be proud to have Mulan there to save the day. Having seen this many times, there is no longer any part I don't like. I love the guys in the camp, spitting and scratching and slapping each other on the backside. George Takei, Pat Morita, a singing Donny Osmond makes it kind of like a cheesy ...

...But here goes!
Mulan is the only daughter of Fa Zhou, a well-known war hero in Imperial China. Her spirited personality and irreverent ways make her a misfit in her home town and she regularly gets into scrapes, disgracing her family’s name in a world where honour and dignity is everything. Mulan loves her family, and would do anything for them, but she just can’t seem to help herself.
When the Huns invade China, the Emperor decrees that one man ... ...his country, a desire that Mulan simply doesn’t understand. Her father has already done his part, and would most likely be killed if he were to go off to war. So Mulan, in her usual impetuous fashion, steals her father’s conscription notice and uniform and flies off to train for war in her father’s place, posing as his imaginary son, Ping. Her family are heartbroken; they can’t go after her as if they blew her cover, the penalty would be death.

Mulan has to be one of the best animated movie's ever made - and it gets better each time you watch it. As with many Disney movies there are a lot of small things thrown in here, there and everywhere, which you only notice after watching a few times. Mulan tells the story of a young girl who goes to war to spare her father. She dresses as a man, and runs off to join the army. Mulan’s ancestors are convinced that ... ...with Mulan. On the way Mulan encounters many people who will become her friends (particularly the comedy trio that she trains with), and some deadly enemies, as they fight to save the life of the Emperor and ultimately save China. It’s a story of adventure, fun and romance, with Mulan falling for the captain of the army, but will anyone find out her secret? If they do, ...

Advantages: great story, cute characters, good for all ages Disadvantages: none
Mulan is quite an unusual film for Disney to make and they do it very well. It is an enchanting story with great characters and wonderful animation.
The story is that Mulan lives in China, where as a woman, she is destined to get married and follow the traditional role. But Mulan is not a traditional kind of girl and often makes mistakes and feels she will never please her father.
After messing things up with the Matchmaker (picture a Chinese Cilla ... ...too frail to fight. So Mulan cuts her hair, disguises herself as a boy and joins the Army in his place. The story follows her adventures on the battlefield and the inevitable discovery of her deception.
It is quite a serious story, but is done very well. There is one scene where a massacre takes place, but it is done very subtlely and is very under-stated, so the younger kids will not understand the full horrors implied.
There are some lovely animal ...

When I first encounter Mulan it was with a bit of mild irritation, Grandparents had bought it as an incidental gift. “Oh I just saw it on the stand and thought that’d be nice, Molly would like that.” I wish I had Fifteen pounds to fritter away on a whim!! As it turned out Molly didn’t like it immediately, she watched the first twenty minutes and thought it was boring so turned it off in favour of Snow White (another grandparent purchase).
We later ... ...must serve the Emperor. Mulan secretly steals his papers and masquerades as a man, to save her father and face the Huns. I’m not sure about the original story but I expect Disney doesn’t follow it to the letter, I’m almost certain the soldiers in the original film weren’t prone to bursting into song.
From the very beginning of the film the atmosphere is set, the titles are done as a painting in a minimalist oriental style, depicting the great wall ...

...Set in ancient China, Mulan (Ming Na-Wen. Singing voice, Lea Salonga) is the story of a young woman who is somewhat different from the other girls in her village. Bold and forward, she is nothing like the decorous Geisha’s of her day.

At the training camp, Mulan meets the hansom young Captain Shang (B. D. Wong. Singing voice, Donny Osmond), the main love-interest in the film, and three fellow soldiers, Ling, Yao and Ling-Po, who bring some light hearted humour into the story.
On saving Shang and the rest of their troop with her quick thinking and swift wit when they are out-numbered in battle, Mulan is injured and ...

Mulan is the best Disney film since Lion King, and that says a lot. Mulan is the young chinese girl who messes everything up at the matchmaker, and embarrases her family. She just don't know how to be a proper girl. Her father is called to war, but she goes instead of him, to save his life. She pretends to be a boy, and does a good job. To help her she has got a tiny dragon, who in his own way is trying to get back into the good book s of the ancestors. ...

The story is one that moves as a steady pace though not to slow as to bore you or the child to the stage you turn it off but isn’t so fast paced you can’t keep up. This particular film has many twists and turns within the main plot to keep the audience captured from the beginning to end, making it a film that can keep your interest and make you able to re-watch.
The film holds a lot of humour though can also ...

This film also made me very sad as I felt how the mother and father must have felt after thinking they had lost their ...

Mulan is the flower of this wonderful tale as we, the audience, watch a girl who is sure of her mind blossom and striveing to achieve honour for her family with amazing consequences...
