Dancing the night away at the moulin rouge

Advantages: Brilliant acting, singing, story and everything really!
Disadvantages: Blink and you will miss it, needs lots of concentration.

...(Nicole Kidman), at the famous Moulin Rouge club in Paris. But as always all is not easy in love and war, disaster strikes, she is betrothed to someone else. Baz Lurhmann uses his links with theatre and opera to create a modern day musical with medleys of songs such as Your Song, I Will Always Love You, All You Need Is Love. And a side splitting version of Madonna's Like A Virgin. A very funny, fast moving story. A story of obsession. Not though ...

So Exciting, So Delighting...

Advantages: Ewan McGregor! The Music, The Story... Everythings Perfect!
Disadvantages: It makes me cry... and the beginning spoils the end..

Moulin Rouge was directed by Baz Luhrmann under his production company Bazmark, and released in the cinemas in the UK in October 2001. The cast includes actors such as Ewan McGregor (Trainspotting) and John Leguizamo (Romeo and Juliet- another Baz Luhrmann film), Nicole Kidman (The Others) and Jim Broadbent (Little Voice). Even Kylie Minouge has a role in Moulin Rouge as the Green Absinthe Fairy. To me, Baz Luhrmann is the God of film directing. ...
...and amibiton is what makes Moulin Rouge such a fantasic, visually stimulating and exciting film to watch. The film is a very extravagant musical, and follows the same theme as other works of Baz Luhrmann, such as Romeo and Juliet. (Apparently the Moulin Rouge love song Come What May was originally written for Romeo and Juliet.) The one thing that I think spoils the film is the very beginning, when Christian explains that 'the woman I love is dead.' ...

Moulin Rouge

Advantages: Special Features
Disadvantages: To fast paced for those having a hard time following movies.

Only Baz Luhrmann can successfully create a motion picture, musical hit starring some of Hollywood's "in" and "out" - but all notable faces/ able to eccentrically contrive a fast pace wave to Elton John's "This is Your Song" as well as other house hold names/ while showing off a magically engineered theatrical/ comical/ one-of-a-kind setting. This narrated, snippet storytelling mirrors that of Jack Lemmon in Irma La Douce and tangled with Morgan ...
...required in such a production. One thing all critics CAN agree is that your full-attention is necessary in order to stay with the fast paced, outlandishly, adult humored picture. Keep in mind, what I can claim, is that the main actors sang themselves- all too evident with Ewan McGreggor ...

...kids. THE PLOT Moulin Rouge is set in Paris at the start of the 1900's, with Ewan McGregor on his type writer. The next bit is a bit of a blur, because when I watch it, I just skip to the bit where he sings for the first time. Satine (Kidman) mistakes Christian (McGregor) for the Duke and tells him she's in love with him, when she finds out he's not the duke she tells him she lied but secretly does feel something. Later on he visits her and convinces ...
...have definitely seen his films: Moulin Rouge, Romeo & Juliet and even Strictly Ballroom, with all these under his belt he's definitely one of the best there is. It's just a good movie, there's nothing more I can say except give it a chance, the start is pretty boring and there is scenes where you feel like 'are they insane' but when you see the story there, you begin to fall in love with the characters. Hope this helped. Kirsty.xxx ...

A colourful aray of variety

Advantages: The story, the actors, the music, and dance.
Disadvantages: Not a lot of guys will like this, nor some women.

Moulin Rouge is not everyone's cup of tea. It's a definite chik-flik. I went with several of my female friends, and a couple of male friends too. Normally I would choose a sci-fi, but in saying that I'm denying the fact that I loved this film, and I'm a Romanic at heart. The film is about a young writer (Ewan McGregor) who goes to Paris to join the ever-growing Romantic population of writers. His father before hand warned him not to go to the Moulin ...
...roof! There in the Moulin Rouge he is swept away by the beauty of Sateen (Nicole Kidman), one of the courtesan's. It turns out she is the one he has to perform his story/poetry to, to get it shown in the Moulin Rouge. At the same time he is meeting her, she is supposed to be meeting the Duke, who is a potential investor. Sateen accidentally mistakes the young writer for the Duke, and she tries to 'impress him'. Unfortunately the Duke is in love ...

One of the most imaginative films ever made!

Advantages: Has everything you need in a film!
Disadvantages: Nothing!

...'Satine', a courtesan at the Moulin Rouge who is an aspiring actress. Nicole Kidman puts in a great performance as Satine. I was actually surprised at how good at actress she was in this film; her part required lots of tender emotion and also a lot of upbeat, over-the-top emotion - both she pulled off wonderfully and most of all, it was believable. She is also an excellent singer. Ewan McGregor is 'Christian', who is a 'penniless writer'. Nicole ...
...it. He plays the naivity of Christian well and all women who watch this will instantly fall in love with him. He is also an wonderful singer. Some other people in the film are; John Leguizamo who plays 'Toulouse-Lautrec', Jim Broadbent as 'Zidler' and Richard Roxburgh as 'The Duke'. All of the performances in this film are excellent and it looks as though it was an amazingly fun film to make. Kylie Minogue also makes an appearance as 'The Green ...

My new favourite film

Advantages: Brilliantly choreographed
Disadvantages: Kylie Minogue's part was too small

This film was outstanding. It had me speechless the first time I saw it, and I bought the soundtrack immediately. If you like director, Baz Luhrman's last film 'Romeo and Juliet, then you'll adore this. It is so colourful and poetic, as if every detail has been carefully crafted to perfection. Fantastic scenery, choreography and so visually stunning that you do not need to be a fan of musicals to be in awe of what you see. The singing and acting ...
...by Kylie Minogue is brief but amazingly visually presented. The mixture of slapstick and sincere emotion has been borrowed from Bollywood but translates to English perfectly. This film made me laugh out loud and cry at the end. It is so full of everything; humour, emotion, vibrant colours and characters. I cannot imagine anyone not being pleasantly surprised by this film. The DVD extras are also of high quality. With a lengthy list of extra features, ...

The songs are dangerously catchy too. Yes I have the CD and yes I can't resist belting out a few numbers especially "Come What Maaaaayyyyyy" (number 11 on the CD). A spectacular show, which would have probably suited the theatre rather than the big screen, packed with musical numbers such as Madonna and the amazing Fat Boy Slim, i have likened this to the recentish version of Romeo and Juliette. You could never fall asleep during this film and it keeps you constantly entertained, the storyline has only a minor role. It is strange seeing Ewan McGregor sing like ...

Advantages: excellent script, cast, production, direction and score
Disadvantages: You're going to have to pay to see it again.

I approached Moulin Rough with a lot of apprehension. I wasn’t moved by director Baz Luhrmann’s last effort – Romeo and Juliet in 1996 – and had a horrible feeling I was going to be asleep before the end of MR. I couldn’t have been more wrong. This film will make you tingle with excitement. That is the kind of feeling you get when you’re watching Moulin Rouge. Maybe it’s because Luhrmann is not limited by ...
...The story of Moulin Rouge is a play-within-a-film. Naïve new poet in town Christian (Ewan McGregor) falls headlong in love with leading courtesan Satine (Nicole Kidman). It's mutual, Satine has caught the eye of a rich duke (Richard Roxburgh) who is the key investor in the musical project Christian, Satine are working on, a spectacular about a courtesan torn between two men, rich and poor.. The tale is helped along by the flamboyant costumes and ...

...and visual flair that puts Moulin Rouge into a category of its own. This certainly marks out Baz Luhrmann as a truly visionary director. The story is quite simple, though it doesn't need to be anything else as the film is much, much more than the sum of its parts. All performances are exceptional, with the two leads proving they can sing as well as they can act. Nicole Kidman is simply stunning, ably supported by Ewan McGregor whose voice is a ...

Great direction, cinematography, performances, soundtrack, etc, etc. The anachronistic soundtrack is very well used and works very convincingly to forward the narrative. Overall, I think that this is a one of a kind film, truly memorable and worth many repeated viewings. Enjoy!! ...

...mark out the point that he's quite small. My favourite part is definately when Christian and Satine are on top of the elephant, it's amazing to realise that it's just a camera trick and that the scenery was created completely by artists. The camera shots are good, and the special effects are breathtaking. The music is also used in a highly creative and amusing way. I would recommend this to ANYONE over 12, it appeals to everyone.
