I LOVED this film, as did four of the seven friends I went to see it with. The girls and the gay boys thought it was wonderful, but the ever manly Simon and Paddy sat, stony faced, muttering about the lack of car chases,police and violent bloody deaths...boys, I suppose, will be boys. However, if you're into music, the surreal and spectacular, dancing and general show-like extravaganza , this really is a great way to while away a sunday evening. ...

However, in Moulin Rouge, the director, who previously made Romeo and Juliet and recently presented Australia, presents it all in a state of the art way and has you foot tapping until the end The sheer ambition of the presentation blows your breath away and the quirky use of pop classics is great fun. The cinematography of this film was fantastic and if you want to see it you must watch it on the big screen. I am not going to spoil the storyline apart from to say that although it is a love story I really think that this film appeals to both females and males. I expect that the scantily clad Nicole Kidman and Kylie Minogue would be enough to keep men watching and as for Ewan MacGregor...need I say more!! The film was unlike any I had seen before. ...

I saw Moulin Rouge for the first time some weeks ago after a friend persuaded me to go and see it. Immediately I was bowled over. The music was phenomenal and very cleverly chosen from popular songs so that it is instantly recognisable. The casting was superb - Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor have soo much chemistry! I am something of a fan of Baz Luhrman's work and this did not disappoint. I had to see it again and did - two days later! I have now ...
...for it to come out on DVD although I am worried that I might wear it out with watching it! This film is definitely in my top 5 films. It is so original and the style has something very different about it. You don't need to be a huge fan of musicals to enjoy this film, although it can help haha. The story is about truth, freedom, beauty and love. It's set in 1899, in France and is based around the 'Moulin Rouge' a popular nightclub at the time. The story follows the relationship between three people, Christian - a penniless English writer ...

The story, though perhaps a little cliche, is tragic and engaging, and beautifully performed by all concerned. For a good musical OR good romance you cannot go far wrong, however if you are not a fan of weepy, soppy films, it's probably best to steer clear. I went along with a friend to see this film, as she had heard good reviews. I on the other hand wasn't bothered about seeing it. I found the first 10-15 minutes hard going, and in fact at least 6 people left the cinema at that point and did not return for the rest of the flim. Its opening sequence is a bit confusing, and the next scenes of the club and its dancers etc. are totally mindblowing. My eyes could hardly keep up with the movement, and ...
...why I had bothered. Then all of a sudden, the film got better. Its characters came to life, and I began to follow the story. Nicole Kidman is good in the film, despite some rather slating comments from the film critics, and her voice was not too bad either. Ewan McGregor on the other hand was fantastic. He has a really good voice, and looked sexier than I had ever noticed before. I think I could become a fan. The soundtrack was not what I had expected ...
