...the delirious thrill that is Moulin Rouge. This is all, of course, in my humble opinion … At the heart of it Moulin Rouge is a love story. In turn of the century Paris, an aspiring poet Christian (Ewan McGregor from The Phantom Menace) arrives in the bohemian Montmartre, known for the famous Moulin Rouge (a nightclub, a dancehall, and a bordello), and run by Harold Zidler (Jim Broadbent from Topsy-Turvy). Looking to be inspire and write to ... ...to be performed at the Moulin Rouge. The star of the play? Paris’ most famous courtesan, Satine (Nicole Kidman from Eyes Wide Shut, Days of Thunder, Dead Calm). And the love story - Christian and Satine, through a series of mishaps, end up falling in love only to have their happiness thwarted by The Duke of Worcester (played wonderfully by Richard Roxburgh from Mission: Impossible 2), who is not only financially supporting this new play but ...

...experience the extraordinary delights of Moulin Rouge, quite simply one of the most breathtaking movies of all time.
This is a stupendous rush of emotion and spectacle, extraordinarily staged and realised, at the same time both completely meaningless and totally meaningful, vacuous and yet packed to the gills with themes and insights.
It was nothing like I imagined it was going to be, and for long stretches, I despised it. But it is an extraordinary ... ...really powerful musical. And MOULIN ROUGE COULD WELL BE THE GREATEST MUSICAL EVER CREATED.
It contains some wonderful, brilliant songs, powerfully staged and performed, and the contribution of its key players is equally astounding, with the inestimable Jim Broadbent as vital a component as the star names Kidman and Ewan McGregor.
It’s bizarrely silly, of course, but enormously good fun and a thoroughly enjoyable piece of high comedy drama, with ...

Advantages: All the film. Disadvantages: At the beginning of the movie they say to you something that they might not reveal.
...I can not say that Moulin Rouge is not what seems, because evidently it is a musical film, whose story develops at the end of the 19th century and to the doors of the 20th century in one of the brothels disguised as cabaret more famous of the world as the Moulin Rouge.
The beginning of the movie looked like to me an authentic madness without any coherence. But, after the first impression, it liked to me little by little and finished catching me ... ...Harold Zidler, who manages the Moulin Rouge. Christian observes a fragment of the interpretation of the play and soon he contributes new ideas to the script, which they will make fascinated Touluse-Lautrec and the rest of the Bohemians, except Audrey, the writer of the play, which does not want another writer in the development of the script and decides to leave the project. But Audrey's abandon will not be a complication because Christian has much ...

...half suggests going to see Moulin Rouge – well it seemed more appealing than a trip to Lakeside if you know what I mean.
1. I hadn’t read the reviews or the hype, so went in with an open mind.
2. I didn’t even realise it was a full blown musical, although I was prepared for some musical element, given the topic. I don't dislike musicals as such.
3. Set at around 1900 in Paris, I thought it would be different from the usual Hollywood ... ...also secure the future of Moulin Rouge. Tragically she contracts consumption and dies but not before professing her lover for our hero the writer.
And if the film could have lasted as long as it takes to read the last paragraph, I’d have come away a lot happier. No opportunity was taken to create any feel from the period, one of the most exciting creative ages from modern times – that has to be the biggest let down in Moulin Rouge, it ...

Advantages: Great soundtrack, Original, Good acting Disadvantages: May not appeal to younger viewers
...Christian to go to the Moulin Rouge ( a night club of can can girls and prostitutes )to speak with Satine the sparkling diamond, the most highly paid and beautiful woman there, the star of the Moulin Rouge.
Satine and Christian fall in love, but there love is a dangerous thing because Satine has been promised to another man.
The rest of the story is about love and the other emotions it brings.
Sound Track - The sound track to this film is hard ... ...Zidler the owner of the Moulin Rouge and of course all the singng and dancing background stars.
Suitable for - everyone, although I think that some of the younger viewers may not get a lot of the humour in it from the songs - when we went we had a 15 yr old with us who didnt find it that funny
Overall - I thoroughly enjoyed this film. It was original, funny, sad, and full of brilliant dance and song routines. It made a great change from the usual ...

...'him indoors' to see the Moulin Rouge on Friday night. It exceeded all my expectations. I started writing this review a few weeks ago but now I forgotton the names of some of the key players – my brain is definitely shrinking with old age.
The stars
You should all know by now that the main stars are the beautiful ... ...are the owner of the Moulin rouge and ‘the duke’. Christian’s playwright / actor friends also add much colour to the plot. The plot Christian is a British aristocrat who goes to Paris at the turn of the 19/20th centuries to find himself artistically as a writer, and to find love. He holes up in a less salubrious part of the city near the Moulin Rouge (MR). He joins up with other bohemians in his lodgings and inspires them to write ...

...lifted from Baz Luhrman's film Moulin Rouge (Red Windmill, I believe is this translation though my french is a little rusty) and is also featured on the actual Soundtrack CD that I decided not to buy.
Track 1 on the single is what I assume to be the album version, although it does not say it is on the single sleeve. This version is the one that I saw on the TV. I noticed that the radio edit of this single does not have Missy ‘Misdemeanor' ... ...how I know that this is not the radio edit. I think that this version of Lady Marmalade is a vast improvement on the version released by All Saints, as it has more energy to it than All Saints did. All four of the artists singing on this track have excellent voices, which obviously is pivotal to the quality of this track. Had the track been performed by any other combination of artists, I do not feel that it would have been so well performed.

...came accross HUGE amounts on Moulin Rouge, almost all were telling me how brilliant it was. Thus, off I went to the cinema! I actually went to the cinema with a friend of mine who'd already seen it, and wanted to see it again. This made it look even more promising!
The basic outline of the film:
Nicola Kidman (Setine) and Ewan McGregor (Christian the poor poet!) play the stars of the show. It's set at the Moulin Rouge dance club in Paris, where ... ...fund a show at the Moulin Rouge to keep it open. The Duke soon found out about their relationship though and on opening night of the show he tried to shoot them down when Christian stormed onto the stage.
As usual in films, the couple got through this, but, alas, Setine had an illness. She kept on coughing blood at intervals throughout the film and once she left the stage, she died, in Christians arms.
Well, once this film had finished I turned ...

Advantages: A wonderful story, lovely songs, charactors and places. Disadvantages: Can be very sadin some parts.
Moulin Rouge is my favourite film. It is so terribly sad in some parts, funny in others and scary in more parts. Starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, Moulin Rouge even has excellent actors and actreses, that really make you believe the feelings they are feeling. Keep your eyes peeled (not that you'll be able to help it when you watch this amazing film) and get a tissue ready for Moulin Rouge...

Advantages: Great pop editing and effects. Jim Broadbent (ten times the actor of all the others)) Disadvantages: Pop songs don't work, original songs poor. Narrative very weak. Characterisation poor. (Toulouse Lautrec?????!!! Should this have been a cartoon?!)
Moulin Rouge is a bizarre mix of the new and the old; a tried and tested storyline combined with astonishing state of the art editing and effects. Traditional musical set pieces reinvented using modern songs. Baz Luhrmann references virtually every style of this genre, from a Paris straight out of the films of Rene Clair to the traditional operatic tragic storyline. But there is still something lacking in terms of narrative and originality.
Fans ... ...this is where I believe Moulin Rouge fails. The gimmick of including modern pop songs to 'contemporise' the century old setting seems to work at first, but after the first half hour the idea collapses as it becomes clear that songs such as 'Your Song' or 'The Show Must Go On' were not intended for Musicals and are not easily inserted out of context. I believe this failure is a tribute to the writers of such songs and to pop itself, as they only work ...

Advantages: Completly new and refreshing Disadvantages: You won't enjoy it if you don't like musicals!
It's true, Moulin Rouge is the most spectactular and vivid film ever made! Full of colour, music and romance, you will fall in love with this film.
The film is a narrative as well as a musical - seen through the eyes of Christian (ewan McGregor), an English writer who goes to Paris for inspiration. The whole film is set in flashback and is his experience of The Moulin Rouge in Pairs 1900. He wants to write about Truth, Beauty, Freedom and most of ... ...as Satine, Star of the Moulin Rouge is the object of his affection. However, there are complications as the Duke (a rather pantomime typical 'baddy' character gets involved.
I won't give away any more of the plot than that...
The director, Baz Luhrman, has done a superb job and has created a film new and fresh and completly different. Don't expect to see anything naturlistic. It's like seeing the theatre on the screen. It's absolutly wonderful.

Advantages: Over 6 hours of features on a two disc set Disadvantages: My DVD player crashed (but only the once, and it may have been my own fault ;))
I was swayed into seeing this movie at the cinema by friends who said they'd never seen anything quite so breathtaking, and me, being somewhat cynical, decided to go see what all the hoo-ha was about.
Needless to say, I thought it was fantastic, and yes, my breath actually was taken away (mind you, this was nothing to do with the price of a medium popcorn and a large drink)

Now I could waffle on and on about how brilliant the movie was, but as I'm only writing an opinion on the DVD, I'll assume that you have already seen it.

Advantages: Extremely Funny Disadvantages: Gets a bit silly- not for those with no sense of humour
Moulin Rouge has to be one of the most mad, yet funniest films I've seen since Rocky Horror. Right from the beginning, it's strange, with a little man sitting on a roof in Paris singing about a penniless writer, called Christian (Ewan McGregor)
The Start
_________
The film starts by Christian writing a novel about the Moulin Rouge. At this point you learn that Satine (Nicole Kidman) dies, and it flashes back to one year ago (1899) where Christian ... ...owns the deeds to the Moulin Rouge in return for him funding a play about a beutiful woman in India who is meant to marry the evil leader, but she's really in love with the penniless sita player. Satine and Christian try to hide their relationship but they fall madly in love.
The Twist
_________
Not telling- apart from the fact that Satine dies- or does she? Ahhhh....
What I liked

I thought this film was amazingly funny, even ...

...comes as a shock that Moulin Rouge just turned out to be one of the worst films I'd ever seen… but only almost - it started at zero and went rapidly down hill, starting in the very first scenes!
THE PLOT:
**********
There's much of a plot? Oh.. sorry, I'll try to be subjective! Nicole Kidman is our female star, an all dancing all singing Sadine, a courtesan. Ewan Mcgregor is our male lead, playing Christian, the sensitive poet, looking for ... ...he will finance turning the Moulin Rouge (which is a club), into an all out theatre. We get told right at the beginning the Sadine dies, so I'm not giving anything away there. He loves her, she loves him. She loves him not, but she's only pretending. Then she loves him again. All are happy. She dies. Oh!
I found it incredibly hard to bring myself to care!
The characters are paper thin, we know next to nothing about them. The plot has no depth, ...
