The musical is being financed by the villainous and quite stupid Duke (Richard Roxburgh), who is Christian's rival for the affections of Satine (Nicole Kidman). Jim Broadbent - Well, he comes from Lincolnshire, so he has to be good. I feel that it has taken far too long for Jim Broadbent to receive the recognition he deserves. He is gloriously over the top in this movie, and ...

This review of Moulin Rouge was written as a project for my music class at school, which I must admit I am very proud of because I got an A and I haven’t achieved one of those in ages. It was fun writing the project as in class my friend Jenny who loves the film kept on coming up to me while I was writing and saying ‘Aaah Moulin Rouge!’ every five minutes, which got a bit annoying. I hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoyed writing and getting ... ...the featured star of the Moulin Rouge, Satine, the Sparkling Diamond. To finance the play Satine’s boss Zidler asks Duke, Duke agrees to finance the play, and a renovation of the Moulin Rouge in exchange for a contract that binds Satine to him. Christian and Satine keep their love secret for the show to continue ...

...Grease did for the seventies, Moulin Rouge has done for the zeros and quite possibly beyond that.
This grips you from start to finish with its brightness, flamboyance, musical conglomerations and simple beauty. It meshes music from the last century and carries you along on a rollercoaster of a playlist. I lost count of the number of tunes that I recognized, and that was after about twenty minutes.

Jim Broadbent is the owner of said moulin Rouge, desperate to create such a 'Spectacular' but economically constrained. Richard Roxburgh (I think), plays the Duke, a foppish Englishman with the readies and the hotties for Satine. No problemo ...

...any one word to describe Moulin Rouge, maybe ‘Superb’ and ‘Breathtaking’ or ‘Tragic’ and ‘Moving’. For the first ten to fifteen minutes of the film I felt nauseous. ...Special Edition, er, I mean Moulin Rouge, the new movie from Baz Luhrmann.
Comparisons to the aforementioned Shakespearean extravaganza are inevitable (the film even features a rhyming couplet or two), but this is very much a new kind of moviemaking. ...and I went to see Moulin Rouge this past weekend. We knew it was supposed to be a musical of sorts, so with me being an old musical junkie and him, just being a fan of music, we decided to head to the cinema and see it. All we really knew about it was the music video played on MTV, featuring Mya, L'il Kim, Pink and Christina. I suppose this video gave us our first glimpse of what was ahead for us.
From the very first moment of the opening credits, ... ...out of old Hollywood. Moulin Rouge was filmed completely in a studio, not filmed in various locations around the globe. This in itself was fulfilling to watch. The set showed the audiences the wizardry of art. The costumes were outstanding. The colours, the sights, and the sounds of this film were beyond compare. You didn't know where to watch first and your eyes were frozen to the screen, for fear of missing something exceptional. Initially, I thought ...

...am speaking is, of course, Moulin Rouge. I shall give a very brief summary of the film in this paragraph. View comments Moulin Rouge has to be my favourite film of all time. I am not just saying that because I love to watch a romantic film but it is so classy, radiant and harmonious. I first heard of this film in the papers and it never really appealed to me at first because it seemed quite boring. I only thought this as in America it hadn't been much of a success, but now I think of it Americans don't share the British elegance in a film. ... ...The film being called Moulin Rouge (red mill) sounds very posh and it is indeed, this was where the rich and upperclass men went to get their thrills with young and very pretty courtesans. The Sparkling Diamond being the main courtesan the one bringing in the most money as at the start she drops from the sky then belts out 'Sparkling Diamonds' a song from the soundtrack. All these rich men waving their money in the air hoping to be picked. She already ...

Moulin Rouge is a vibrant extravaganza that turns the classic musical on its head. It is an excellent production that is original, pacey, very well acted and directed and above all an emotional roller coaster of a ride. I saw this movie last week at my local multiplex. I’m not the world’s greatest devotee of the musical, but decided to give it a whirl anyway.
Having read a few opinions on movies, I realise that a good way to make yourself very unpopular here at Ciao is to give a blow-by-blow account of the plot, so I won’t even attempt it!

Jealousy, and the adage “never fall in love with a whore” feature large in this movie, and it all ends in tears.
