• Boo!

Advantages: Everything - it's just a fabulous film
Disadvantages: The ending -- WHY does it have to end? :'(

Welcome to Monstropolis, the bustling city that is home to monsters James P. Sullivan aka Sulley and Mike Wazowski. Life in Monstropolis pretty much echoes that of life in a human city - on their way to work Sulley and Mike pass monster children skipping in the street, they see other monsters going about their daily business (like a monster trying to read a paper but burning it to cinders when he sneezes a fireball), and greet friends like Tony, ...
...However, the inhabitants of Monstropolis are facing a power crisis. Sulley and Mike work at Monsters Inc., the largest scream processing factory in Monstropolis, where collected children's screams are their power source. The trouble is, children are becoming harder to scare and it doesn't help that the monsters themselves are terrified of human children - they believe that they are toxic and dangerous. So when a human child manages to find her way ...

Me and My Monsters

Advantages: Fabulous CGI
Disadvantages: None

Anybody that knows me by now knows that I watch a lot of children’s movies. I have explained before but I get forced you know? One minute I can be watching the footie, the next I’m invaded by the rest of the family who abruptly turn the TV onto the DVD channel, shove a bowl of popcorn in the middle of the room and bind and gag me for the following 90 minutes or so. This happened only recently with the millionth re-run of Monsters. Inc. In fact, it ...
...back in 2001…… Can you believe it? There I am standing in the queue for my seat tickets at my local UCG and there are a couple of strange looking fellas in front of me. One of 'ems a large, furry guy with broad shoulders and blue fur. The other is a small, green round chap with one large eye. They're both carrying plastic tubes in their hands. So I buy my tickets and shuffle through the theatre doors to take my seat. The kids are tugging at my shirt ...

Hiya guys!! Well here I am with another film review! Big surprise I know!! This time it's on one of my more favourite computer generated films....... MONSTERS INC Well here I go folks....some quotes from the experts! "Overflows with clever gags, stunning visuals, shrewd matching of vocal talent and animated characters." Gary Thompson, PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS "This flick is absolutely fantastic from top to bottom, beginning to end!" John Venable, ...
...the Toy Story films are, well then it's pretty damn close." Scott Weinberg, EFILMCRITIC.COM Well I totally agree with these guys and they obviously seem to like it! ***TECHIE STUFF*** This film has a U certificate so there is nothing for the parents to be worried about!! This film has a running time of 88 minutes Monsters Inc is presented to you by Walt Disney and Pixar Animations. I have the DVD version of this film and bought it for £15.99 ...

Monsterrific

Advantages: Great Family Viewing
Disadvantages: None

~ Introduction ~ I watched this film on DVD a couple of weeks back, prompted by reading many raving reviews but still not really knowing what to expect in terms of the quality of this production. Monsters Inc is a CGI (computer generated imagery) movie, I am not really a great fan of such movies after watching films like Final Fantasy as it seemed to be too false, however this film in my point of view is an absolute master-piece that is put together ...
...they have a number of successes under their belt, including ‘Toy Story I & II’ and ‘A Bugs Life’. Director: Pete Docter, Lee Unkrich Length: 95 minutes Certificate: U ~ Story ~ The story is centred around a parallel world that the monsters live in named ‘Monstropolis’, in particular the ‘Monsters Inc’ factory – the factory actually powers Monstropolis and the power is obtained by the monsters ...

Warning, May hurt yourself laughing

Advantages: May injure yourself laughing
Disadvantages: I was wet with tears (and nothing else)

As the adverts and trailers had finished and the film was about to start-I was in a heroicly bad mood. Despite having watched some brilliant movies at the end of 2001 (Lord of the Rings, AI and Amelie) my cynicism for the cinema had reached an altime low. I decided to list the many things that were annoying me at this point: 1) The ticket cost £6.50. I could probably fly to Bulgaria and set up a chip shop with that sort of money 2) A couple of the ...
...Never Land' and 'Cinderella 2' almost had me going green and muscly and bursting out of my shirt. (As opposed to white and skinny and taking my coat off) Had Disney lost all sense of decency? Had they given up completely? I turned to a friend and said with the deepest sarcasm possible: 'what next? Beauty and the Beast 2?' He replied: 'yeah they've dont that one too' 3) I had been to the cinema the previous week to see Vanilla Sky (very disappointing) ...

...cardboard cut outs of the monsters, and every film I had seen in the cinema recently had trailers for the movie! So off I went, I’m glad I did too, as not only was it a great film, but it’s the first time I’ve sat through an entire animated film since The Lion King, I haven’t even watched Toy Story yet, however, I might now! I got into the cinema, sat down with me huge coke and watched the adverts, then the trailers, only ...
...Hmmm I thought, another 5 minutes of boredom. I was surprised, what this short film actually has to do with the film monsters Inc itself is beyond me, but still, it’s one way to get the short film some publicity. However, the film just gets you ready for the main feature. ‘The Bird’s’ may only be a few minutes long, but it is surprisingly funny, even if a bit stupid and unnecessary. I hope they stick it on the DVD when it ...

...scary about most of the monsters, many of which have to put in their false teeth before they enter the children’s rooms. Over the years, scaring children has proven to be a very successful enterprise and has kept Monstropolis in plentiful supplies of energy. The scarers maintain a league table of who has scared the most children, and Sully is currently the reigning champion. The monsters’ only fear is of the children themselves, whom ...

Mike (Billy Crystal) and Sully (John Goodman) are so very different, but complement one another completely, and they each have very different strengths. Well, there is our hero, Sully, a giant blue hairy creature who actually seems quite loveable until he appears in a bedroom (voice by John Goodman). His flat mate is Mikey, a little one eyed green creature (voice by Billy Crystal) who works in tandem with Sully in the Monsters Inc factory. Sully scares, Mikey ...

Disney and Pixar - A winning team

Advantages: Spectacular animation, hilarious, not just for kids
Disadvantages: There isn't a sequel (as yet!)

Monsters Inc is an animation brought to you by the studios of Pixar and Disney. Its a feature film about a monster world in which James P Sullivan (the big blue and purple one) and Mike (the one eyed green one) both live. They both work at Monsters Incorporated, a factory where monsters create energy that fuels the city buy collecting screams from children over in the human world. This is done by entering the children's bedrooms at night through ...
...canisters. These monsters may make their living scaring children, but they're not baddies in any way shape or form and this film is so unique in that although the monsters are scaring children, they're still the good guys. The monsters are in fact scared of the children, in that any human contact is seen as toxic so, although they are scaring them, they are also trying to desperatly avoid being touched by them too. The movie lets us join in with ...

The Monster Mash

Advantages: Superb animation | Quite funny at times | Good voice talent
Disadvantages: Not on par with other Pixar films | Ending a bit too mushy

...is one main difference to Monsters, Inc than other Pixar films, John Lasseter has neither directed or wrote this film but has stayed behind and produced the film. His absence can be felt and, unfortunately, without him Monsters, Inc stumbles where Toy Story 1 & 2 excelled. It is common knowledge that Pixar, as well as animating cracking films can also write superbly as well. There are many in jokes in Toy Story 1 and especially 2 to keep the adults ...
...other kids movies. However Monsters, Inc fails to be quite as sophisticated when it comes to the script as animation. This cannot solely be because of Lassester’s absence there is only so much one person can do. The main reason is because of the characters. Monsters, Inc biggest disadvantage is having a two-year-old girl as a main character. Because of this there is hardly going to be some mind-blowing conversations to be had and while dialogue between ...

The perfect pressie

Advantages: The Outtakes!
Disadvantages: Not that many features

This is a review of the standard edition DVD, not the collectors edition which has extra features on it, but of course is more expensive! You don’t get a fancy box with the collectors edition either, so in my view it’s not worth buying, just an extra source of revenue for Disney. I loved Monsters Inc so much at the cinema that the first day the DVD was available to buy, I bought it! I’m not the kind of guy who jumps to a DVD as ...
...to go down first, makes sense see, afterall, a couple of months after they have hit the shops and are retreating back in the charts, the suddenly go down to £9.99 from about £14.99! But Monsters Inc just had to be bought there and then! The Story Ok, so a quick run down, there are plenty of opinions out there on the film, including mine (blatant plug eh!?) that will do the film justice, but I’m reviewing the DVD. PLOT The film revolves around ...

Toy Story 3 It Aint

Advantages: Looks fabulous
Disadvantages: Lacks that cartoon quality

Is there anyone out there in the sane world who hasn't heard of Monsters Inc.? Is there even a single soul wo hasn't been bombarded with the merchandise, the adverts, the product tie-ins and every other conceivable cash in? Yes it seems like years since Monsters Inc. was first being revealed to the public, but only now has it hit multiplexes in the UK. Now there's a problem with this and hardened cinema goers will be all too familiar with it: expectation. ...
...critics and the studios have insisted that the new product is the best thing ever. We're jaded and more cynical now and it was this change that made me just that little bit scared of Monsters Inc. I was all too ready to be let down by Hollywood again, but surely the nice people in movie land wouldn't lie to me... The giant Monsters Inc. corporation supplies power to the fair land of monsters but they're not having a good time of it. Relying on the ...

Sully is the company’s top “scarer”, and Mike is his assistant, staying on the monster side to loadin/unloading scream canisters. Tough Kids, Sissy Kids, Kids Who Climb On Rocks...

Disadvantages: Not long enough and could be funnier.

Why must Hollywood continue to churn out such a mix of films? Why cant they all just be like Monsters Inc. The recent spate of animated films; Toy Story one and two, Chicken Run, A Bugs Life and Antz not to mention Shrek (which had its moments, but Im not forgiving Mike Myers for that accent anytime soon) have been excellent and thankfully Monsters Inc safely tops them all as the most pleasing and entertaining cartoon you’ll see all year.
