Production Year: 2001 - Family - Director: Peter Docter, David Silverman, Lee Unkrich - Original Language: English - Classification: Universal - Starring: John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, Mary Gibbs, Jennifer Tilly, James Coburn, John Ratzenberger, Billy Crystal more
Advantages: Everything - it's just a fabulous film Disadvantages: The ending -- WHY does it have to end? :'(
Welcome to Monstropolis, the bustling city that is home to monsters James P. Sullivan aka Sulley and Mike Wazowski. Life in Monstropolis pretty much echoes that of life in a human city - on their way to work Sulley and Mike pass monster children skipping in the street, they see other monsters going about their daily business (like a monster trying to read a paper but burning it to cinders when he sneezes a fireball), and greet friends like Tony, who ...

Anybody that knows me by now knows that I watch a lot of children’s movies. I have explained before but I get forced you know? One minute I can be watching the footie, the next I’m invaded by the rest of the family who abruptly turn the TV onto the DVD channel, shove a bowl of popcorn in the middle of the room and bind and gag me for the following 90 minutes or so. This happened only recently with the millionth re-run of Monsters. Inc. In fact, it ...

Monsterrific Review ofMonsters, Inc. (DVD)by

Advantages: Great Family Viewing Disadvantages: None
~ Introduction ~
I watched this film on DVD a couple of weeks back, prompted by reading many raving reviews but still not really knowing what to expect in terms of the quality of this production.
Monsters Inc is a CGI (computer generated imagery) movie, I am not really a great fan of such movies after watching films like Final Fantasy as it seemed to be too false, however this film in my point of view is an absolute master-piece that is put ...

Advantages: May injure yourself laughing Disadvantages: I was wet with tears (and nothing else)
As the adverts and trailers had finished and the film was about to start-I was in a heroicly bad mood. Despite having watched some brilliant movies at the end of 2001 (Lord of the Rings, AI and Amelie) my cynicism for the cinema had reached an altime low. I decided to list the many things that were annoying me at this point:
1) The ticket cost Ł6.50. I could probably fly to Bulgaria and set up a chip shop with that sort of money
2) A couple ...

...cardboard cut outs of the monsters, and every film I had seen in the cinema recently had trailers for the movie!
So off I went, I’m glad I did too, as not only was it a great film, but it’s the first time I’ve sat through an entire animated film since The Lion King, I haven’t even watched Toy Story yet, however, I might now! I got into the cinema, sat down with me huge coke and watched the adverts, then the trailers, only ...

...scary about most of the monsters, many of which have to put in their false teeth before they enter the children’s rooms.
Over the years, scaring children has proven to be a very successful enterprise and has kept Monstropolis in plentiful supplies of energy. The scarers maintain a league table of who has scared the most children, and Sully is currently the reigning champion. The monsters’ only fear is of the children themselves, whom ...

...a parallel world inhabited by monsters, the city of Monstropolis. The city itself is much the same as any worldly city that we know, but it has only one source of power. Scream. They bottle the screams of human children to power their city and world!
A select team of monsters are given access to the bedrooms of our children. They appear in the rooms of the little ones through wardrobe doors and scare the wits out of the kids, bottling the energy ...

Advantages: Spectacular animation, hilarious, not just for kids Disadvantages: There isn't a sequel (as yet!)
Monsters Inc is an animation brought to you by the studios of Pixar and Disney. Its a feature film about a monster world in which James P Sullivan (the big blue and purple one) and Mike (the one eyed green one) both live. They both work at Monsters Incorporated, a factory where monsters create energy that fuels the city buy collecting screams from children over in the human world. This is done by entering the children's bedrooms at night through the ...

Advantages: Superb animation | Quite funny at times | Good voice talent Disadvantages: Not on par with other Pixar films | Ending a bit too mushy
...is one main difference to Monsters, Inc than other Pixar films, John Lasseter has neither directed or wrote this film but has stayed behind and produced the film. His absence can be felt and, unfortunately, without him Monsters, Inc stumbles where Toy Story 1 & 2 excelled. It is common knowledge that Pixar, as well as animating cracking films can also write superbly as well. There are many in jokes in Toy Story 1 and especially 2 to keep the adults ...

Advantages: The Outtakes! Disadvantages: Not that many features
This is a review of the standard edition DVD, not the collectors edition which has extra features on it, but of course is more expensive! You don’t get a fancy box with the collectors edition either, so in my view it’s not worth buying, just an extra source of revenue for Disney.
I loved Monsters Inc so much at the cinema that the first day the DVD was available to buy, I bought it! I’m not the kind of guy who jumps to a DVD as ...

Advantages: Looks fabulous Disadvantages: Lacks that cartoon quality
Is there anyone out there in the sane world who hasn't heard of Monsters Inc.? Is there even a single soul wo hasn't been bombarded with the merchandise, the adverts, the product tie-ins and every other conceivable cash in? Yes it seems like years since Monsters Inc. was first being revealed to the public, but only now has it hit multiplexes in the UK. Now there's a problem with this and hardened cinema goers will be all too familiar with it: expectation. ...

...out by the staff of Monsters, Inc. – and it’s here that our heroes Mike and Sully (played by Billy Crystal and John Goodman respectively) work. Sully is the company’s top “scarer”, and Mike is his assistant, staying on the monster side to loadin/unloading scream canisters. Deeply jealous of their unbeaten scream record is Randall (Steve Buscemi), a cool chameleonic lizard-monster, who has a plan to beat the heroes to the top spot. This plan goes sour ...

Advantages: Fantastic and beautifully original. Disadvantages: Not long enough and could be funnier.
Why must Hollywood continue to churn out such a mix of films? Why cant they all just be like Monsters Inc. The recent spate of animated films; Toy Story one and two, Chicken Run, A Bugs Life and Antz not to mention Shrek (which had its moments, but Im not forgiving Mike Myers for that accent anytime soon) have been excellent and thankfully Monsters Inc safely tops them all as the most pleasing and entertaining cartoon you’ll see all year. I ...

...that kids are poisonous to monsters, one touch could be deadly and even the whiff of a sock is enough to attract the attentions of the boys in yellow, the CDA (Child Detection Agency) who have a fairly extreme and brutal decontamination program.
Returning to the scare-floor late one night Sulley finds that Randall, in an attempt to break the record, has been putting in a little bit of unauthorised scaring and has unwittingly unleashed a deadly ...
