Advantages: Fast pacy spy adventure, with great music and some equally great stunts. Disadvantages: Stunts a bit far fetched - but you expect that with this sort of film.
==Mission Impossible (1996)== We just felt in the mood for an older movie, but an excellent film all the same to watch as a family, as pickings are a bit slim at the moment. My children picked it for us to watch as a family. ===What's it all about?=== Of course the film is based upon the same set up used in the television series of the same name. Having said this, I have not watched any of the original series as this was before my time. The film ... ...given the task of going to Prague to stop a top secret list of agents, passing into the hands of traitors. The group are told to walk away if the mission fails and that their bosses will not admit to knowing them if they are captured. The mission does go awry and it seems that all of the agents are killed, all except for Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise). Ethan makes arrangements to meet his superiors in a restaurant and it is here that Ethan realises that ...

Advantages: great twists Disadvantages: too complicated (maybe even impossible)
...a huge one for any Mission: Impossible fan. Personally I think it was too far. It ends in the now famous helicopter going through the Euro Tunnel scene. At the time this was made, it was cutting edge special effects.
Of course, we all know the TGV doesn't stop in London. But I'm pretty sure a sponsorship deal and misinformation (it was filmed before the tunnel was complete) insured that in this film TGV did stop at London.
I remember when it came ... ...for being the first to incorporate the tunnel. ------------------------------
Acting
------------------------------
Jon Voight does a fantastic job as Jim Phelps - just the way I remember him. Tom Cruise also pulls off a good Ethan Hunt. The actors are all believable. This film boosted many of the actors careers. Including Jean Reno and Ving Rhames who both went on to do successful films after appearing in Mission Impossible. ----------------------

Advantages: Intricate plot, excellent acting, appropriate action sequences Disadvantages: They made a sequel...
As I have said, Mission: Impossible 2 was a poor film, and as I mentioned in that opinion, its predecessor is far better. I thought I might elaborate upon that.
Just for a bit of background, M:I began as a series in the sixties where the IMF (Impossible Mission Force) were sent on many...erm...Impossible Missions. Of course, they weren't impossible as they nearly always managed to complete the mission. The team was lead by Jim Phelps (played superbly ... ...operatives (some of the more notable ones being played by Martin Landau and Leonard Nimoy). The missions often involved elaborate stunts - at least for the time - which often had to be taken with a pinch of salt here and there. However, for the most part it was well scripted and enjoyable viewing, at least for the fantastic theme tune (which was later used in an advert with a squirrell running in time to it...).
M:I the film was made in 1996 and ...

Advantages: good action film Disadvantages: too complex plot
This film could have been really excellent if it wasn't let down by one flaw - it's too complex. I've seen it three times so far and I've only just managed to understand exactly what's going on and who's who. The performances are strong if not outstanding and the special effects are great - and if you like gizmos then this one's for you. The sound effects are great, again not outstanding. I can say it kept me hooked, right until the end I was on ...

Advantages: An action plot that can stand on its own two feet Disadvantages: Possibly slightly too long
Your mission if you choose to accept it ......
Mission Impossible is Tom Cruise at his very best; sexy, funny and strutting his stuff in a high octave action adventure that introduces us to Ethan Hunt the agent we can't forget in a film, whose theme tune we can't stop humming.
Jim is the leader of a highly trained group of espionage assassins working for the government and Ethan Hunt (Cruise) is his point man. Their job is simply to track the man/men ... ...powers that be. Simple for such a crack-team or so you'd think. But as you can guess things don't exactly go to plan.
All of the team minus Ethan are killed, or so we believe, in an operation that turns out to be an internal mole hunt to find the insider corrupted by a Czech Arms Dealer known only as Max. Worse still he's framed for their deaths and must now race like a burning fuse in order to flee the government assassins and stay one step ahead ...

Advantages: Action to the max Disadvantages: Intelligent moviemaking, this aint
MI2 could not have contained ANY more action then it did. There is no way on earth. From car chase to punch up to gunfight and back again, this rollercoaster ride through a million different ways to make you feel as if you are actually there were perfectly engineered by John Woo (who also directed Face Off). If you like a cunning plot, character development, and more twists then a piece of pasta, go and see something entirely different. If, however, ...

I was not exactly very keen to see Mission Impossible 2 at the cinema, becuase I did not think it was really my kind of film to watch. I was proved very wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is not one of the typical action films in the cinemas, it is funny and has stunts that are just absolutely amazing. The stunts were performed so easily after watching them many people I am sure just felt they could go out and do them. The storyline was not very ...

Advantages: Some good performances Disadvantages: Too much plot and not enough action
Confused? You will be. This film has one of the most intricate plots of it's genre - lose concentration and you may as well sit back and enjoy the action, which is a bit on the scant side. But hey, too much action and not enough plot (Mi:2!) raises complaints too so I guess the movie makers simply can't win!
The film starts at a good pace, but 15 minutes in with half the cast in body bags you wonder where this is going. The brakes are put on then ... ...guy that set him up. The action sequences ae then few and far between but complaints are put on hold after viewing the closing 20 minutes which is pretty spectacular stuff.
Some good performances are put in by Voight, and Emmanuelle Beart in particular, and Cruise fits into the spy role nicely. Keep your eyes peeled for some great dialogue between him and Redgrave, who also turns in a good performance.
Summing up it's worth a watch, probably a ...

Having only recently seen the first MI film, I was a little dubious about the second, expecting it to follow in the footsteps of so many sequels, a poor immitation. No way! This was a real step up. Directed by John Woo and in his inimitable style the action doesn't stop, with incredibly well choreographed fight scenes and almost unbelievable stunt sequences. The storyline is just above average, with a particularly contrived end sequence, but never ... ...movie. Tom Cruise was cool, Thandie Newton was gorgeous and Dougray Scott was particularly good as the baddie. Certainly by no means an intellectual film, but one that really gets the blood pumping and I left the cimema feeling like I could just as easily defend myself against the forces of evil. Whilst maybe just another action movie, it's certainly on the upper end of the 'just another action movie' scale. ...

Advantages: Great fun Disadvantages: Daft as anything
Something approaching genuine entertainment in a summer blockbuster is rare indeed, so despite the pointlessly complicated plot and occasional silliness of Brian De Palma's big budget adaptation of the TV series, it's still a lot better than the Bond movies we get these days.
Tiny Tom Cruise is nobody's idea of a hard man, but as the script demands that he be a wily little bugger, constantly arranging bizarre schemes and plots to find out who is ... ...with everyone), he works perfectly well. The carnage of name actors in the opening sequence is fun, and the use of locations in Prague and London is quite astute. The dialogue is smart, and while De Palma is never really allowed off the leash, he still directs the whole thing with lashings of style, and the music is splendid. Shame about the sequel really. ...

Advantages: Good feel to the film. Great action sequences. Disadvantages: Too confusing plot.
This is an interesting effort to make a full length movie of the so-so sixties tv series - and it makes you wonder whether that's where it should have belonged. It feels a bit too dated in its glossy spy charades to be a modern idea but still manages to entertain if also to confuse. Obviously the studio bosses realised that it was too confusing but have gone completely the other way with the dumb sequel. This original is certainly how it should feel ...

Advantages: ACTION and John Woo directs. ACTION, ACTION, ACTION. Disadvantages: Was there ment to be a plot?
Another great action film from the Hong Kong meister of action John Woo. OK, after the first 30 minutes (if that!) you could write the rest of the script, but forgetting that, the film looks beautiful (OK its no "Thin Red Line", but still looks good), and the action has John Woo written all over it - twin hand guns, acrobatics, and much more... Review of Mission: Impossible (DVD)
Advantages: Good special effects, and acting Disadvantages: Plot indecipherable
There was quite a commotion when the film of the TV series first came out. Would it be as good as the TV series, or would it ruin the quality of it? Or would it be better? These questions and more were asked many times over. Well, naturally, I ignored all this and went to see the film for myself. I got to the cinema, sat down, and prepared myself for a great film. It started well, and I began to enjoy how the film was going. Disaster near the start, ... ...– great. It should be quite interesting and yet action-filled at the same time. However, by the time an hour had passed, I no longer had any idea what the hell was going on. New characters dropped in and out without explanation, and Cruise did all sorts of things, and I had no idea why. The plot twisted and turned more than a Welsh mountain road, and my brain hurt. This spoiled the film – it was too complicated.
Luckily, I managed to figure out ...

Advantages: Lots of suspense, lots of action, and don't forget TOM CRUISE! Disadvantages: N/A
I recently saw the movie Mission Impossible 2 and enjoyed it immensely. I recommended it for two days to many friends and co-workers only to have a spattering few come back to me, not raving and giving it accolades as I had, but badmouthing it, claiming it had no plot, weak characters and/or relied too heavily on special effects.
Please take into consideration that I have not seen the first Mission Impossible, which many believed was the reason ... ...commented that it revolved around Ethan Hunt and not the whole group. Whatever the case may be, I believe the movie was excellent because, contrary to some remarks, there was a terrific plot to this movie. The essence of plot is the construction of a beginning, middle and end, which this movie easily satisfied. Another reason I enjoyed this movie so much is because of the characterization. Both main characters come across as vibrant, daring, bold, ...

Advantages: Excellent set-pieces Disadvantages: Not always easy to follow
Fans of the original "Mission Impossible" television series may not recognise the high-tech film equivalent. Possibly the best of the fad for film versions of classic TV series, "Mission Impossible" begins as a homage to its source; Jim Phelps is given exploding instructions to assemble a team around Tom Cruise to carry out an impossible mission. Sadly, the mission proves to be exactly that as Cruise watches the rest of the team die inexplicably. ... ...the operation, and as the survivor of the mission Cruise becomes the greatest suspect. The rest of the film concerns his attempt to find the real mole, by apparently going over to the other side.
The plot - which can at times be hard to follow, especially when Cruise realises in flashback how his team were really murdered, at the same time as he explains out loud a completely different theory - isn't really the point though. The film's reputation ...
